Owner Jim Sparks is a wonderful man, and they are a strong community supporter. Their family has operated the business for more than 40 years. My apple fritter was the best I have ever enjoyed, and we decided that it was definitely worth the 45-minute ride! They also have great donuts and cookies, plenty of indoor seating, and historic Winterset photos. This is a jewel. Visit it; you'll love the entire experience.

As we were here mid-afternoon, selection was more limited, but still tempting. I would have preferred a scone over a donut (because the former is "healthier"?), but my choice was either going to be the later with white frosting or a long john. They had the "fancy" donuts, you know the ones that people get creative with cereals and stuff. No plain every day donuts. I got the apple fritter. It had cherries in it, I didn't know that. The 2 ladies that were there were super sweet. There is some seating inside and outside. And you can see the old architecture of the building inside and out which makes it fun.
