Sweet bakery stop walking around the Square in Winterset. Friendly service and an affordable treat, double bonus. I tried the Apple crisp donut, very moist and delicious. I also bought a coconut pie to go, and I really wish I would have bought 2. Next time we are in a road trip, I will grab extras. I love the hard wood nostalgia of the bakery. It's hard to preserve charm.

What a great bakery on the square. Local and unpretentious, but yet full of flavors. If you are looking for a treat, try their daily specialties. On another visit here, we had their Orange Blossom - truly memorable. On today's visit, I had their Apple Fritter and walked the Square window shopping (see my reviews of the Quilt Museum and the Dutch County General Store). As you can see from my pic, I believe this isn't a conventional fried Apple Fritter. It had the requisite amount of glazing, but the dough was more of donut dough and, perhaps, baked. It had a generous amount of apple bits with sweet, cinnamon notes. I got my expected Apple Fritter sugar rush. As with this style of restaurant, buy your goodies in the morning for the greatest selection. I'll be coming back again and again.

We got donuts and they were very good! Came back though town and got a hamburger onion pizza and cheese garlic bread. All very, very, good!! Thin crust was perfect with a great crunch!

So I guess no more Brick Street Bakery? Great location. No donut cases displaying donuts. We had to ask about the donuts and it was 8am. They had the "fancy" donuts, you know the ones that people get creative with cereals and stuff. No plain every day donuts. I got the apple fritter. It had cherries in it, I didn't know that. The 2 ladies that were there were super sweet. There is some seating inside and outside. And you can see the old architecture of the building inside and out which makes it fun. They are only open 6am-2pm. Will need to go back and try their pizza as I was not impressed with the donut.

We had to try the goodies.. so I got the maple frosted cake donut. I wasn't expecting much... I'm not a huge fan of cake donuts because every one I've had has left me dry-mouthed and searching for water... but not here! Brick Street's donuts were not dry at all! Moist and perfectly sweet! The coffee (we just have it black) was smooth and tasty. My husband enjoyed his gooey sticky-bun :)

What a charming shop! The staff were very friendly and efficient…read more My maple long john was incredibly fresh with a creamy frosting. My son was thrilled with his sprinkle donut, especially with the fun, non-standard colors like blue and green. My husband's apple fritter had a strong cinnamon flavor with bits of apple; it was a bit crunchier on the edges than we expected, but still delicious. We got an old fashioned for our one-year-old, and it was the perfect choice - not too sweet, nor sticky. The big surprise was the breakfast sausage sandwiches my husband and son ordered. The high-quality egg, sausage, and cheese on a fresh croissant were fantastic. I took a bite and was truly impressed, especially for the price... under $5 is very reasonable for the size. I was waffling over the Kona iced coffee, so a worker kindly gave me a sample. It was stronger, sweeter, and creamier than I expected, so I happily purchased a cup. The shop itself is small and can get a bit crowded, so it's probably not the best spot if you're planning to sit and eat inside. We will definitely be back the next time we're in Ankeny though. I can already imagine grabbing donuts and coffee to enjoy at the park with the kids once the weather warms up!
