I would give this place 2 stars, maybe 3 stars only because the staff during the day seems like there pretty good. But bad apples spoil it all for everyone come nighttime. Once the day staff leaves this place turns into a POOP SHOW. I have been trying to get in touch with a nurse to ask a simple question since 830pm, It is now 10:06pm, and I have made 7 calls, and currently on hold for 37mins. It seems the staff at night is in the closet. This place collects how many TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars DAILY, and they cannot hire staff to work nighttime. My review will stay unchanged until something is done about the nighttime staff. Update: updating my review to 3 stars. Only because the day staff is great. Spoke with the director and she will speak with the night nurse. They are short handed and they need to hire more people 100%. I do like the fact that they have lil activities during the day. This nursing home should be closed. They are very abusive towards the patients and serve them three, four day old food. The patients will not eat the food so they are basically bring starved to death. The place is overcrowded and sad. The parties they throw for the patients are just a cover up for their la k of true care. read more

I am a Registered Nurse and was appalled at the lack of care my Aunt received at this facility. I was working on getting her transferred within 48 hours of her admission and by the grace of God had her transferred on the 6th day of her stay.The food is horrible, she spent 90% of the time in her room, the staff referred to her as 219( her room #),very little patient care and I wouldn't use the towels they had for the patients as rags. read more

My dad spent quite a lot of time at Garden Care. He had type 2 Diabetes and was a large man, 6'5" and around 300 pds. He was always treated with respect and great care. He was always treated like family, and if there was anything to complain about, believe me, we would have heard about it. I highly recommend Garden Care. read more

So, if we're being truthful all nursing homes are terrible. Terrible in that they always have an undercurrent of deep sadness. All places have their good and bad and your loved ones' experience is dependent on their level of functioning. However there are places that make an effort. They attempt to make a place feel homey, clean, they have extensive enrichment activities, staff that smiles and a general culture of "hey let's at least try to give a s***." It's a tough job taking care of the elderly. And for those of us incapable of doing so ourselves have to put our trust in strangers. Do not send your loved ones here. Yes there were some kind nurses and aides but the floors are claustrophobic, drab, that weird smell of industrial deodorizer filling the air while elderly men and women are barked at or ignored. Again it's a hard job and I'm sure there simply isn't time to answer every cry wolf complaint. I was only there for short periods of time to visit, who knows how a whole day goes there. We repeatedly explained that my mom who suffers dementia while understanding English will only answer in Spanish (a weird and common quirk of the dementia addled brain). There were no fluent Spanish speakers on hand. My brother would try to walk my mom to the bathroom and they freaked out. I understand they have regulations and insurance to worry about with falls but it's hard to see your loved one sitting in their own filth because there's no one available to take them to the toilet. They wait to clean everyone at once. She developed pneumonia and we found out she had the start of a bedsore on her backside. I'm a funeral director and I've picked up the deceased from nursing homes with bedsores down to the bone. So that send chills down my spine. So....she's elsewhere now. I went to pick up her meager belongings and...they don't know where her items are. A couple of clothing items and a photo album that's it. I drove out there on Saturday, nearly broke my teeth at the news as I clenched my jaw so hard to not yell. They were to call the next day after looking into it. I called as well. No return call. I called on Monday, asked to speak to a manager or director of operations I was transferred to a mailbox number, with no name or greeting message. So I have no idea who it went to. If you can't be trusted in small matters, you cannot be trusted with the large ones. It's just indicative of the overall operations. All nursing homes on a sliding scale of quality are terrible but some fall right to the bottom. read more

Garden care center is middle of the road from my perspective having my mom in outpatient physical therapy in a few other places in Nassau county. The nursing and aid staff for the most part are very good and caring which is their strength. Unfortunately the physicians they are associated with do not communicate at all and spend about one minute with each patient they visit a week. The physical therapy area is good and features resistance weights and an elliptical machine. The pt and it staff are relatively young and tend to have long periods of socializing with each other while there are patients waiting. They are however friendly and do try to ensure they get to each patient everyday. Another drawback is that the patients must stay in a wheel chair even if they exhibit the ability to walk without assistance. This puts a severe limitation on the amount of time the patient can spend building up their stamina. read more
