Wonderful hotel with great staff, clean and comfortable rooms and beautiful decor with a cool retro 90s vibe. I loved the colorful triangle art on the walls, the retro posters and art in the breakfast area, the chandeliers in the lobby, and the retro lamps in the hallways and my room. I will definitely be staying here again when I am back in New Castle this spring! read more

Dirty floors. Dirt towels. Bugs in the toilet and on the floor. Hot tub only worked for 10 minutes and then over heated. They refused to give a redund. This place is the nastiest hotel i have had the displeasure of being in. 100 percent do not recommend anyone stay here. read more

We were here for a horse show. Stayed couple days. Our bathroom had mold growing on the walls. I posted picks on here. We had used soap on the sink from previous people that were in room. Maid service is awful. Our room wasn't cleaned at all. Came back at night , bed not made, not vacuumed nothing cleaned. Only thing maid service did was put 2 clean towels in room. Towels are like the ones we had to use in school showers after gym. The care of hotel is pretty bad. There isn't much in this town for hotels. They are all pretty bad. I think the Alfred Inn is better and that's not saying much! read more

I stayed four nights in May at the Garden Inn. After the first night I made a reservation at another hotel for the following week. The Garden Inn was one of the worst hotels I've stayed at in the Midwest. First the Good: The tv worked well and was a flat screen. The bedding seemed clean and the toilet flushed. The Bad: hot water is not available during all hours. My work dictates early starts and a hot shower would have been nice. No such luck. I don't know about peak hours but luke warm showers and shaves are a big negative. I was afraid to try the breakfast due to the overall cleanliness issues in the hotel. The pool was "closed for maintenance" and from the yellowed tape holding the sign had been for sometime. This may be a blessing. The website says "free USA Today" newspaper. When I enquired about the paper I was told that the nearest papers were at CVS. The air conditioning doesn't cool the room. The room is dark due to very small CFL bulbs, making reading difficult. I could go on but you are getting the picture. The Ugly: the room was filthy. Corners are filled with a collection of miscellaneous dust and dirt that has evaded numerous "cleanings." the windows are opaque with collected grime over a very long time. And finally, the room smelled as if there had been a fire extinguished with urine. I believe this had once been a Holiday Inn Express. I understand why it lost the franchise. Pickings are slim in New Castle but I would sleep in my car or under a bridge before the Garden Inn. : read more

If you're looking for a place to sleep, and nothing else, I guess it's fine. But it's a DUMP! No wifi, pool is close indefinitely, hall way carpet is loose and wrinkled, ceramic tile in the hall is cracked and loose and shifting, the wall paper is peeling. I'm the first room they gave us, the toilet didn't work. In the second room the gave us, the toilet was loose and would tip over when you sat on it. The room door barely closed and the dead bolt didn't work. The outside door on the side of building that's suppose to be key carded, didn't even close. Never ever again with these guys. read more

THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!! My hardworking working boyfriend has been there for four weeks working for a travel company and they have only cleaned his room twice after I called three times a day over multiple days so that they would clean it! They leave to come home on weekends and they don't give them clean towels, clean floors, bedsheets or anything of the sort! Max thing they do is take out the trash! I've called multiple times since hearing this news and they dodge my calls. Plus they are expensive for only being two stars. The pool is closed all the time. The breakfast is old and cheap so not much there. The WiFi can't even work on a phone it's so cheap! This place sucks and they expect 350 dollars a week! Don't waste your money, they have no reason to stay open. The minute they got there they had a hair on top of the bed! Place is gross and they lie about when they will take care of it. Quit dodging my calls and fix your establishment! read more

If I could charge this place stars, I'd give it a negative 99! We arrived late one night, thankful to get 2 rooms. The man at the front desk told us to use the wifi, we would need to be close to the front desk. We took rooms as close as possible and still, no wifi. As for the rooms... Good Lord! The wallpaper in the bathroom was glued and scrapped and looked hideous. The toilet stopped up three times. Don't want to get graphic, but it was man pee stopping the toilet up. No paper, just pee. Overflowing toilet in a hotel three times when a man pees??? Wow. We settled in for the night, but the ac never really cooled the room. It kept turning itself off and made a terrible noise. The room smelled musty. Like people smoked and then sprayed Lysol. The tv kept glitching. It would mysteriously change channels. Then it would turn off and come back on. The carpet was sticky. The next morning is when the fun really got started, though! I mean this in a sarcastic, oh my gawd why o why did we have to stay in this hell hole kinda way. The hallway was like a sauna. Was muggier than the jungles of Peru. Free breakfast... Dry cereal, juices, milk, yogurt. Ok. At least it's something, right? Yea. It's all fun n games until the juice machine sputters cranberry juice *everywhere*! Then the insanity begins! As we were trying to clean ourselves up, a mean old woman came into the breakfast room and saw the mess. She immediately began mumbling about people making messes and grabbed a spray bottle and rag from a back room. My husband began to explain the machine had sputtered just as the lady dropped to her knees and began spraying the floor at my husband's feet. She snapped at us, telling us the juice would stain her floor and stating it would have been nice if we had taken into consideration that fact before wiping off our hands. Just then, our 3 teenage boys came into the breakfast room. She said they would not be able to eat because breakfast was over in 15 minutes and she had enough to clean up already. She flat out said,"you boys get out. You're not eating because breakfast is over early!" Before I could object, my husband asked her what was in the spray bottle because his leg was burning where she had sprayed him and his navy blue nikes were turning white in spots. She replied bleach. He said you've ruined my shoes. She said I was just cleaning up YOUR mess. He then asked to speak to the manager. Drum roll please!! She WAS THE MANAGER!!! Oh sweet baby Jesus what kind of screwy place is this??? He told her she'd ruined his $120 shoes and she did apologize, but said she was stressed out because she had an employee call in and she was stressed from trying to do her work too. He began to forgive her just as an employee brought her child in and they sat down and began eating breakfast. I raised objection, as she had just turned my children away. She explained they were employees, so the hours didn't apply to them. I highly suspect she was worried about 3 teenage boys eating too much and costing her too much. My husband and I just walked away. Next, we checked out and were loading our car. She popped her head out the door to tell us not to smoke by the door. She said state law says 8 feet away!! First, we don't smoke. Second, there's an ashtray holding the back door of the hotel open... If you're faced with a choice of sleeping in the middle of I-70 or staying here, please do yourselves a favor and sleep on 70. You'll thank me. read more

If you have to be in New Castle and you have to stay in a hotel, it's slim pickings. We chose this hotel because it was a recent construction and has a pool. I was shocked to see mildew on tables and chairs at the pool, which was like a cold air steam room, meaning your hair will look disgusting if you sit there while watching your child. The room was clean enough, but the mirror started to fall apart when the high school kids in the room next door started thumping the walls. The hotels are basically here for visiting sports teams, and trying to sleep in quiet or trying to get anything at the continental breakfast is a pipe dream. Internet is NOT wi-fi, so bring an ethernet cable or hop over to Cafe Royal down the road with your laptop. There is an off odor, perhaps coming from the smoking rooms upstairs. I have stayed at the other two motels on the same strip, and this one is a tiny bit better as the Steve Alford Inn lacks a pool and the Raintree Inn room we had before smelled of mildew so badly that we had to send everything to the cleaners, including the luggage. If I had to stay for more than a night or two I woudl look for something more corporate in Muncie or Indianapolis. For New Castle it is okay, and that is as good as it gets in this town. read more

Engine trouble on I-70 stranded us in New Castle from Saturday to Monday when the local Chrysler Dealership opened up. There are three hotels on Indiana #003, by the Walmart, all very close to each other. The Garden Inn looked the newest and cleanest. It was mostly clean, comfortable bed, 7 channels of HBO on a 32" TV. The A/C worked fine, the bathroom is clean with clean towels. There's even a hair dryer, which made my wife happy. If I'm ever back, I'd stay here again. read more

Like the other reviewers, Hotels/Motels are slim pickings in New Castle. I felt that the Garden Inn was the better choice of the available motels. All of the Motels are outdated and need to be updated or completely renovated. All of the Motels have an old, musky smell that you wouldn't find in other newer, well kept motels. Additionally, for the conditions that all of the Motels are in, they are all overpriced! read more
