As I entered the lobby, I found the window to my left shattered, and a pervasive smell of cigarette smoke accosted my nostrils. No staff appeared to assist me for nearly 30 minutes. The check-in process was slow, and once I had arrived at my room, a new stench accosted me; something of cyanoacrylate if I were pressed to give it a name. A coarse dust layered the floor of the room, the hand towels were old and covered in debris, and the bath towels were missing entirely. Although the neighbors were noisy, the beds were clean and comfortable, and I slept well. The check-out process was just as lengthy as check-in. Overall, a lackluster experience. read more

This is a small town hotel for sure. I had called to make reservations for a co-worker and I. They asked if we wanted the 'new' part ($75/night) or the 'old' part ($55/night). I opted for the 'new' part. The phone call took forever as the front desk person had to enter the information in 3 times. He gave me the room numbers once the booking was done (very odd). When we got to the hotel, the front desk person had two rooms booked but one was a suite for over $100/night. I don't think so!!!! Luckily they had another room available. They have plenty of parking. The outside of the place is falling apart. It really needs some TLC. The hallway floors were clean but the walls were just dirty. The rooms themselves were clean. I was very happy to find them clean (I really had to wonder if they would be). However, the walls and ceilings need repaired. The outlets in the bathroom did not work. Would I recommend staying here...eh, if you have to stay in New Castle, ok. Otherwise, find a better place. read more

The first room I got had been used and not cleaned. The tv and phone didn't work. I requested a room change and the second room was clean but didn't have towels. I had to stay here because of events in town had all hotels booked. I finally had to resort to staying here and my room was finally right after 3 trips to the office. read more

Meth addict paradise! I ended up in two different rooms. First room was filthy. Walls, floors, tables, curtains and shower curtains were disgusting and it stunk like heavy body odor and smoke. Shower curtain was bent, punch holes in bathroom door, and the ceilings were discolored. Second room tv did not work and the first tv was so blurry you couldnt watch it. Cleaner than the other room but still not suitable for guests. Pool had been closed for at the minimum a year. People live there as well and they aren't the upstanding citizen type. read more

This was a horrible room. Asked for King and got two queens. The room smelled. Was there two days and the room was not maid up. There was no ice. The remote did not work. We had to plug in the lights. Crazy I don't know how the hotel is in business. read more

Apparently it is under new management and now it sucks. It looks like a ghost town every time you pass it. I use to have family stay here when they were in town but never again. I would have them stay in a tent in my yard before I would ever have them stay here again. Gross! Stay at the hotel with the Big Shoe better service and it looks a lot nicer. read more

I think it is down right pitiful how expensive these hotels are in this small town. You can stay in Indianapolis for less than $200 a week. Full price at Raintree is over $420 a week and $313 if you know AHEAD OF TIME that'll you'll be staying 7 days or more. I have had to stay with my two children for over a week now waiting on my home to be ready. I hadn't gotten a deadline yet on my home, on how long it was going to take yet when I started staying. I asked if once I found out and it ended up being a week or more if I could be pro rated to their "special/discount" they offer for staying for 7 nights or more. I was given a flat NO! Then was told to get the deal I had to tell them from the beginning I'd be staying a week to get the weekly discounted rate. I work at a local salon here and have had several customers tell me they had the same awful experience. If this wasn't bad enough, my son came down with a stomach virus and puked everywhere. He couldn't help it, he's only 18 months old. I asked housekeeping for service and why I need it after 2-3 days, she cops an attitude and tells me well the vacuum isnt going to clean the vomit up! I told her I used what I could to clean with (their tiny shampoo packets and wet down a couple towels). She says with an attitude well what do you need? I tell her I already took everything off our bed and piled everything I used to clean so she didn't have to come in contact with it or clean it, since it was my child, but that it still needed vacuumed due to it being 2-3 days and having two children in the room. And now we had no clean towels nor bedding for one of the beds. I had to leave for work. I come back that night after a long day at the salon, stressing about my situation for my kids and my house not ready yet, and picking my kids up from the sitters and still having to get them ready for bed and back to work in the am, worrying about the bad weather as well and there sits the vacuum, the sheets, and a couple towels from the dull service of the room I requested. I was appalled to open up our room to nothing being done and it being left for me to do. Here I am paying $61.60 a night for over a week due to them refusing ro work with me and I have to service/clean my own room! I immediately call the front desk and tell "the wonderful customer caring manager" what was sitting outside my door when I had politely asked for my room to be serviced AND left the service please sign out. I asked why my room wasn't serviced and why things were left for me to do myself. He says he doesn't know why at first and when I tell him I requested way earlier in the day before I left for work. He proceeds to tell me, oh well the housekeeper you spoke with asked if you had paid again yet and I told her no you hadn't! I asked are you kidding me since when does that stop my room from being serviced?! You have to service the room whether I stay another night or not! He proceeded to get crappy and telling me because I didn't renew my room before their "new check out time" of 11 (but I sure did before their old check out time of noon) that that's why I was neglected and he was sending her now. By the time she got to our room, I had already made the one bed by myself and vacuumed and changed the trash. She tried to them be nice and I told her it shouldn't of mattered whether I has paid or not yet. The keys automatically stop working at 11:01 am if you haven't renewed yet and I had been staying for 2-3 days already at this time, so obviously I was good for the money and would pay and that I found it very unprofessional and it showed no signs of comfort or hospitality with their actions and lack there of actions per request, which are all things people look for when staying at a hotel. If it wasn't for the fact that Steve Alford Inn doesn't have a mini fridge for my son's milk and that they have no discount whatsoever for extended plus it is more money I would of gone back there. At least they were nice, and they had good WiFi that didn't cut in and out and had full cable not just basic 20 channels! Only reason I stayed plus I didn't want to keep bouncing around from hotel to hotel until our house was ready. The manager is awful and needs fired and the hotel is in serious need of renovation. If we would of had the pool they used to keep up on, it would of seemed more like a mini vacation and a good distraction for my kids and I, and let up on some of the stress of being in between homes. There was so much more bad as well like people smoking in the rooms upstairs and it was all supposed to be a non smoking building, and the constant pounding and thumping on the floor late at night, going on past midnight!!!.... from the group of out of town construction workers staying above us and it not being taken care of when I called and complained to the front desk. read more

The worst hotel ever! I stayed one night after reserving for three. I left after the first night. They forgot to clean our rooms, they had trash stored in the stairways and the room smelled good until they cleaning agent that was in the tub was rinsed down the drain after the first My sinus was stuffed and could not stay another minute. Found a great Super 8 in Greenfield down the road with GREAT ROOM SERVICE and CLEAN ROOMS for the same price!! Well worth the drive. read more

When I called to make reservation the clerk was very professional and efficient. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The room was very clean and the bed and linen were like new. The conference room was very clean and up to date. the food was excellant. The pool was not open but you could tell there was major construction going on throughout the Hotel. I would Recommend to anyone who wants to stay at a nice clean place in New Castle IN. to stay at the Raintree hotle read more

Raintree Inn is the pits. What once was an icon in New Castle is now the eyesore of New Castle. I've seen this place deteriorate over the years. Price is too much compared to much better places nearby that are equal or less than in regards to cost. Very dirty, very outdated, very broken down, and in need of demolition. Sink vanity was pulled an inch away from the wall. Light switch in bathroom was pulled out. Exhaust fan in bathroom was filthy and screeched like a hen being eaten by a fox. Cobwebs everywhere and filth in corners. The mirror was smokey filthy. The bed was broken down three inches on one corner. Our fridge had mold on the seal and the tub was molded around the caulking. The pool is permanently closed. The only reason we stayed both nights is because the few clean motels were booked. My advice is, if you can't find a room at the few nicer hotels in New Castle, make the drive to the north side of Muncie. read more
