Between…read moreunnecessary lens enhancements, absurdly overpriced faux designer frames and other miscellaneous nonsense, this is an industry which hardly inspires confidence. Perhaps not as bad as buying household furniture or insurance, the wise are nonetheless advised to count their fingers after shaking hands. This office staff is very transparent regarding the "dirty little secrets" of their trade. Until the money is spent, few people know that glasses from reputable manufacturers are guaranteed for a year. Quality lens grinding labs also offer one free "rework" for their product. These assurances cost the dispensing optometrist nothing, yet most charge for their use. Not only does Dr. Arnold have the integrity to not gouge her customers, she carries attractive glasses in all price ranges, and will adjust any glasses obtained from her for a year, also free of charge. I'm happy to report that I experienced none of the negatives in my visits to Dr. Arnold's offices. The doctor's demeanor is calming, patient, positive, relaxed and professional. Further, her recommendation of fundus photography not only avoided the need for pupil dilation, it provided an interesting and interactive view of my retina. The optional process absolutely painless, and was covered by my health insurance. Dr. Arnold is respectful of her patients (never demeaning) and their time, and despite the fact that there were three other patients when I arrived (10 minutes early), nobody was kept waiting. The enthusiasm and positive outlook of the staff seemed to be contagious; patients were mingling as though they each had a cocktail in their hand! I live in the immediate neighborhood, and walked to her offices, so I wouldn't have direct knowledge of parking. I suspect that there is a parking lot behind the building, available parking on the residential side streets and a large (and always empty) retail parking lot a block away. The offices are clean, bright, well organized and welcoming. Vanessa, the office receptionist is always positive, friendly and helpful. She communicates very well, whether face-to-face or by phone. The unsung star of the office, however, is Tuli. Tuli doubles as both office manager and frame stylist; her knowledge of frames is encyclopedic. She has actually collected glasses frames as a hobby for years, and has over 260 pairs in her collection. When this knowledge is pressed into the service of Dr. Arnold's patients, Tuli can make very good recommendations-- and adjust those recommendations to patient preference-- as second nature. Even to this steadfast believer in "function over form," selecting both everyday and prescription sunglasses was a pleasure. Only a minor snafu in coordinating a pickup of both pairs of glasses in the same visit separates this experience from perfection. My suspicion is that this minor glitch might not have even been their doing. I am very pleased with both the services and products of Dr. Arnold and her staff, and recommend them highly.

When they finally returned my call, they let me know they had been closed and that their hours on the website are not accurate (they are open fewer hrs than what is on the site). It took weeks to get an appointment, despite me being flexible. Then, when I showed up for the appointment, I had to stand there for eight minutes just waiting for anyone to greet me at the desk. I coughed, jingled my keys, shouted hello, walked to the back... the only thing that got anyone to recognize me there was me calling them. Then, they had the audacity to actually tell me I was not standing there when I had been. Finally, they couldn't even find my old records on their system and had me entered as a new patient with no history. Too scattered, too rude, not worth it.

Oh boy...She definitely wanted me to know she was not happy with me and wanted me to feel guilty for making a return, even though it was well within the company's return policy terms. Please get Nelissa the help she needs before it escalates. We don't want the term "going postal" to be replaced with "going LensCrafters". Nelissa- it's going to be ok. It's worth stopping in if you want some choices that you won't be able to find elsewhere. My left eye is -6, my right eye is -4, and I have strong astigmatisms in both eyes too. Mintze, my optician, set about looking for frames that had adequate support for the thicker parts of my lenses-to-be. When it came time to pick the coatings, she warned me that the blue light filters would really harm the transmission of the thicker parts of the lens. I appreciated this attention to detail. Really, you're coming to Madison Eyes because you want a neutral person's appraisal for how the frames look on you, and because you want greater selection. It's definitely not cheap to buy glasses here. But it's worth it for making the most of my sight, my most important sense. I'm posting photos of my top two choices from this year. I was given a very thorough eye exam by Dr. Dipal Shah who is an Ophthalmologist, Corneal…read moreSpecialist & Cataract Surgeon. Following the exam, she advised me that I have cataracts and we discussed whether I wanted IO lenses to correct my severe myopia (nearsightedness) or IO lenses to be able to see up close. IO stands for IntraOcular, meaning inside the eye. There are different lenses for the choices. Dr. Shah said she does the procedure in 2 locations, Union and Elmwood Park. This makes me wonder why the name of the business has the words "& Surgery Center". The website name comes up as newjerseyvision.com Dr. Shah said that her Surgical scheduler would call me the next day, but actually it was over a week later. As I was leaving, I stopped at the front desk and asked for a printed copy of my Rx for eyeglasses. I always carry a Rx for glasses in case I'm out of state and my glasses break or get lost. Also, I wasn't sure when I would have the cataract surgery & my glasses needed replacing. The person at the front desk said that the Rx hasn't been finalized yet. I asked her to mail it to me when it was. She said I would have to pick it up in person and sign for it. She didn't know when it would be ready. When the Surgical scheduler called me the next week, she told me that the Dr. had an opening in 2 weeks and explained that Original Medicare only covers the basic lenses and that the ones I need are more expensive and also the facility charge for the closer location to me in Union - 4 miles away charges a higher fee than the Elmwood Park facility 23 miles away from me. My Supplemental Insurance only covers the balance of what Medicare covers. The cost to me would be about $5,500. for both eyes. I asked her to repeat that. She said it's partly because I have an Astigmatism. I was in shock. Others who've had cataract surgery per lens for the "better" lenses. I said that I would have to think about it and completely forgot to ask for my Rx for glasses. This becomes detailed to show why I gave a 2 star rating. I called a few days later for it and after many rings (during normal business hours), it went to voicemail; I left a message with all the pertinent information. No one responded. I called again a few days later and again, had the same result ~ no one responded. Each time, I had pressed the option for the front desk. The next time I called, I pressed the option for Optical for glasses and someone answered. I gave her my name, the date of the exam & explained that I've been trying to get my written Rx for over a month and asked if she could help me. She asked when I would be coming in and I said around 12noon; she said it would be at the front desk. When I arrived (just before noon), no one at the front desk could find it. A nice woman at the front desk asked who I spoke with; I said I didn't ask for her name but it was whoever answered in Optical. I relayed the conversation from that morning and she looked me up in the computer & said that it hadn't been finalized yet. I said "that's unacceptable"; I then explained about leaving 2 prior messages and no one responded and that is just not right. I said that I wasn't leaving without the Rx. As far as I could tell, she did not check with the Optical Dept. but messaged the Dr. and told me to take a seat. The Dr. called her back about 10 minutes later; after another 10 minutes, she said it was printing out. Then she clearly explained that my eyes are only going to become worse without the cataract surgery. I said I understood that. She gave me the paper to sign acknowledging receipt of the Rx. I never raised my voice. I feel that they caused all the delays to get me to sign to have the cataract surgery OR to use the Optical Dept. in their office for eyeglasses. I remembered from years prior that the latter is supposed to be a separate business from an eye Dr. and that's why she didn't contact them. My rating for Dr. Shah would be 5 stars for the exam and consultation and Zero for the BUSINESS. It's most likely that the Management has set protocol for the employees and associates. In my opinion this felt like deception. I will be going to a different ophthalmologist.
