It's a beautiful flower shop but it's unfortunate that the lady that mainly helps is sorta u pleasant and unwelcoming. I ended up at this flower shop because I saw how beautiful an arrangement was at another establishment. I went there and told the lady the type of flowers I liked and she made me a small arrangement. Well the peonies were half dead. Literally the petals were falling. I went back inside and ask her to please change the peonies and add some more color to it and she wasn't too happy about that. She agreed and I paid an additional fee for this. Overall nice flower shop but I wouldn't come back simply because of her demeanor and attitude towards clients. read more

Bad management, careless service. They delivered flowers to address in their system NOT the address I gave. 100% their error. The flowers were for thanksgiving, ordered weeks ahead of time for 2 days prior to holiday so any possible issues could be avoided. The flowers were delivered to the wrong address. When I called the guy on the phone (not management) was super nice and understanding- and asked how I would like resolved. I asked for flowers to be delivered even though holiday passed but to get a partial refund. He said he would speak to management. Management refunded $10 on $120 order. They missed the holiday, it was 100% their fault and they only refunded delivery fee. Avoid this florist there are plenty others in the area. read more

This florist has a 'hit or miss' reputation in Metuchen. We are a grieving family, and the funeral was in Metuchen. I ordered a "Premium" arrangement ($189.99 + taxes and fees = $212.48). We got a scraggly arrangement in a small basket with FOUR roses, a few half-opened lilies, and minimal palm leaves. It was embarrassing to have our family and friends think we 'went cheap'. I went to the shop and showed photos to the owner. She offered three or four times to refund the entire amount, but no apology, no explanation. I said, 'this is not right,' but no response. I even said, "I don't mind paying something for this" as an opening to discuss a fair price, but she didn't take me up on it and still said she would refund the entire amount. So, what happened? After about two weeks, there was no refund, not even a pending refund, to my credit card. I sent an email to request the refund, and I was sent an invoice with a revised charge of $111. No explanation, no apology. This left me again with the feeling of being cheated. I called to speak with the owner. She now had the excuse that there were five roses, but that was a lie. People at the funeral agreed that there were only four. Even so, $111 for this? She said, "there could have been more palm leaves." No apology, no willingness to make it right. I said I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. Her reply: "Go ahead." Reputation is everything. For this florist who lied several times and cheated a grieving customer, it's really poor. Next time, I'll use E&E Florist in Metuchen which has a better reputation. I won't ever use Gardenia's again. I now think of this florist as "Garbage-denia's". read more

I spent a lot of time on Gardenias' website choosing an arrangement for a very dear friend who had just undergone breast cancer surgery. I was careful to try to pick an arrangement that did not include "seasonal" flowers so the arrangement would (hopefully) resemble the website photo as closely as possible with minimal or no substitutions. I even called Gardenias several days before placing my order to make sure they had the specific vase shown in the website photo and was told they did. What my friend received was a poor representation of the photo on the website. (See attached photos.) While it is a marginally "okay" arrangement, the type and amount of flowers included did not justify the cost. Also, aside from containing pink roses (but only 2, not 3), it certainly does not remotely resemble the website photo and does not follow Teleflora's Vintage Butterfly Bouquet "recipe" I found online: 3 each roses, 40cm, hot pink 1 stem chrysanthemums, button spray, purple 1 stem chrysanthemums, cushion spray, lavender 1 stem chrysanthemums, daisy spray, white 1/2 stem statice, sinuata, raspberry 1 stem leatherleaf fern 1/3 stem huckleberry Of course Gardenias clearly state on their website they may make substitutions when certain flowers are not available but the irony is there was nothing special or seasonal about any of the flowers in the arrangement I picked. I could have gotten all the flowers in the website photo at my local grocery store any day of the year and put the arrangement together myself for far less than I paid for this arrangement, delivery, tax and tip -- and I would have done that if I didn't live over 1100 miles away from my friend. Also, despite being told they had the butterfly vase, it would appear from my friend's photo of the arrangement she received, Gardenias also substituted the vase too. Finally, Gardenias neglected to put my name on the card so when she received the delivery, my friend initially had no idea who the arrangement was from! Based on my extremely disappointing experience ordering flowers from Gardenias, it would appear they skimp, take shortcuts, and make lots of substitutions on arrangements ordered online since there is a good chance the sender will never see the discrepancy between what they ordered and what the recipient actually received (and the recipient probably has no idea what the sender ordered). In summary, I DO NOT recommend ordering flowers online from Gardenias ... unless you don't really care what the recipient receives and don't mind paying top dollar for a few inexpensive flowers. UPDATE: My friend sent me another photo of the arrangement Gardenias delivered and I have added it here. They did not substitute the vase as I initially thought but this other view of the arrangement clearly shows a lot of green filler and minimal flowers. read more

I was extremely disappointed in the Christmas centerpiece I had ordered. I called to complain that the Premium arrangement @ $114.00 was subpar. Five Roses some carnations 2 candles lots of greenery and 2 pinecones. No bow,holly,twigs or anything. Like it wasn't finished. The women on the phone said they will pick up the flowers and give me another arrangement. Ok good.. The new arrangement was by far nothing Premium but they did add a bow.. I ended up adding embellishments I had from previous floral arrangements to make it look less like a cheap grave cover. Never again. read more

I ordered PINK hydrangeas to put on tables for a baby shower. First I was quoted in person $8 a stem. When I placed the order in person it became $9 a stem. I didn't argue as I guess she needed the extra $10. I paid in advance as I and my family and friends have used this florist before and we're very happy with her. When I picked up the hydrangeas they were not pink. In person they were more of a beige and some white. Everyone at the shower said it was not pink. It took the owner 16 days to respond to my email. (she was not there the day I picked up). When she finally responded after my 3 emails, all she said was why did you take them and use them. Why??? Because it was 9AM and the baby shower started at 11:30. I didn't have time to shop in hopes someone hopefully had pink in stock. That's all I had for the tables. Samantha really could care less. I do give credit when due. The floral arrangement put together in the baby cube was beautiful. I did get many compliments on it. As you see in the pic, there were even 2 shades of a nice PINK. Perfect for a baby girl shower. Due to Samantha's lack of caring ( I wasn't even looking for a refund at first, just letting her know how disappointed I was) but she said it's pink, changed the price on me and took 16 days to only question why I took the flowers. So... her loss as I, my family and friends will no longer shop there. read more

I'm not exactly the best person to rate a floral, BUT, this is still very much worth the review. First off, the exterior & interior of the place was VERY impressive to me. Kinda had a homie look to it, nothing they said CITY. Flowers & decorations in the store were just very well used in my opinion. The only thing I'd remove would be the "dream catchers". Now, the reason I give this a 5 regardless of any small negative I might seen is because of the customer service. The lady who helped me (sorry I forgot your name ma'am) was not only EXTREMELY helpful & patient, but spoke with me for a bit & didn't make me feel like she just wanted my money. I had made this purchase online. I had chosen this particular arrangement called "Sapphire Skies Bouquet" because it symbolized something to me and the family who lost someone and to whom this vase was sent to. The so called "Sapphire Skies Bouquet" that was sent did not even have a sapphire color flower in it. What was sent was an all white "sorry looking" arrangement. I totally understand that sometimes florists may not have certain flowers in stock and this is exactly what the lady I spoke to told me when I called to express my dissatisfaction. As a paying customer I expect a courtesy call to let me know that. No matter how busy a florist you are! We could have discussed alternative options. I am appalled that you would justify your decision to send whatever flowers you chose telling me that it was a "beautiful arrangement". I am appalled that you didn't care about the trust that was placed in you and your company to deliver what was represented in the picture online. I have been using Gardenia for 13 years, referred many to them. We use them so often that we keep our card and likes on file. I forgot to order my husbands Valentine Flowers. I called at before 930am on Valentines Day. I introduced myself and let them know I forgot to order the flowers. They hastliy told me no more deliveries are being are taken. I let her know that I was in the city and could not pick up. I understand this is their busiest day but my husband works 2 miles from their store and I stated he could be the last delivery. I was told they are at capacity for deliveries and hung up on ! NO LOYALTY to their every day clients! My hubby has ordered flowers here trying to stay local several times now. We really want to like this place but don't think we'll be back. The flowers are beautiful for the most part, although I'd prefer a less exotic look personally, but either they are not fresh or they do not use food because they are consistently dying beginning a day or two after delivery. I've noticed they often look wilted when they are delivered as well. For the price he is spending, it is not worth it. I got a second arrangement same day from a friend from another florist for my birthday and the comparing the two, these flowers still look great and opened up nicely but the Gardenia's flowers look sad and at least half the display is dead. I have to say that working with Gardenias and Samantha was great. I called to place an order for an arrangement as a present to my wife. Samantha took the time to listen to me patiently and offered a lot of good ideas. She then followed up by sending me picutres of different flowers she had in stock so that I could tell if it would fit my idea of what would go in the arrangement. I really felt like she was working with me as if I were there in the shop! When the flowers were delivered to my wife's job, the delivery man called me to tell me personally that he left them with the security guard the moment he left the property. As for the flowers, they were beyond my expectations. They took the idea I gave them up to the next level. My wife loved them and so did all of her co-workers. Everyone was coming into her room to see what she got. I could not have been more satisfied! I will undoutably use Gardenias again and urge you to as well. read more

I had ordered 7 arrangements of low, mid size flowers for my baby shower. Unfortunately, my baby decided to come 5 weeks early and with all the craziness, my mother and i decided to post pone the shower 3 weeks. Because i was only able to call Gardenia 2 days before the event, they at first wanted to charge me 65% for the flowers they had ordered. When i told them i didn't think it was fair to get charged 65% for flowers, they then hung up on me. They called me back feeling guilty and offered to only charge me 50%, which again to me, feels like too much money just for flowers. I will never use them again, as i didn't mean for my baby to deliver early and they were extremely RUDE. read more

flowers were delivered the wrong day. owner argues that it was my mistake not theirs. to compensate, they would come pick-up the flowers and redeliver them for an additional delivery charge....then the owner started to curse out my co-worker ehhh i think not. i would have kept pleading my case but stopped since i know i was not being heard; that and they need to get their e-mail confirmations fixed, because it does not state when the delivery is scheduled for. this is why i stick to 1800flowers read more

We went here for a floral consultation, the woman who helped us catered to walk in customers while trying to give us our quote and while there were other employees who could have clearly helped the walk-ins. She also didn't have suggestions for flower alternatives when I asked and tried telling me specific flowers I wanted for my wedding would be a higher cost because they would be out of season. Funny thing is I have above average knowledge of flowers and which stems are in season due to the fact my aunt owns a floral shop (which is located over two hours away which is one of the reasons she isn't doing our flowers). I let the florist think I didn't know much about flowers and it was clear the bait was taken and she was walking all over us just to get a high priced sale. Would not recommend this shop. read more

SO happy we decided to go with Samantha and Gardenias Floral for our wedding. We waited a little late to hire a florist since we were only getting bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages. After speaking with 4 other florists who said they weren't able to get peonies for our May wedding, Samantha told us she would be able to get them, and at an extremely reasonable price within my budget!! She also offered a bouquet sample for the bridesmaids bouquet which was such a great idea because I changed my mind after seeing my ideas in person. I'm in this store usually about once a month and have never been disappointed. They are very creative with arrangements And have some very. unique floral designs. Not the same old flowers you find in typical shops. It's a small shop with a cool vibe and some nice gifts. Not your typical carnation / roses place. For me, the service has always been great. I ordered a $115 arrangement (ab $130 after tax and shipping fees) on Teleflora and Gardenias fulfilled my order. What a freakin rip off!! I legit got scammed by this florist!! There was no succulent, they subbed out roses for cheap carnations, the few roses they did include were MINI roses, half the arrangement is greenery, the edges of the flowers are brown and the greenery is droopy, some of the flowers already fell off (it was just delivered today!), and the container it came in is a patterned gray and white (it was supposed to be plain white). A friend sent me a $50 dollar arrangement from another florist today and there are more, higher quality flowers in it then the one I spent $115 on from Gardenias! Ugh!! I've made better arrangements myself with the $14 value bouquets from ShopRite. The total value of the flowers I received isn't more then $20 and they advertise recycling vases so I'm sure the one I got was probably donated to them for free or given back to them by another customer who thought it was ugly. I'll be contacting Teleflora about this florist. Oh, I almost forgot to add that my order was supposed to be delivered yesterday! ETA: If you look at some of the other positive reviews, you can see that they're friends with the owners or (former) employees; these business owners have absolutely no integrity.
