You can't setup auto payments in an easy way. It requires a form, an outdated check and mailing it in. They also changed online system which is complex to even get signed in. A whole mess to make up 0s for exact 16 digits which is different than the 0s that already show in your account. I was only able to login once. So I missed a payment and they shut down my power. I was working from home and see my monitors go off. Next I hear loud noises in back patio. I walk out and sure enough their worker was walking away. I asked him what was going on and they said it got shut off for nonpayment in the most cold rude way possible. Then they continue to go off. I ask if I need to call to restore service, they say yes. First of all how is it fine for this person to trespass private property and go off to the back patio. They own the meter but they should at least knock or they have full access to the water one out front which they had been doing before. Going into the private patio should only be an emergency. This is such an abuse. I paid and now they won't restore service as fast as they took it out. I have a 70 year old, what if someone has medical equipment plugged in? All fridge food will go to waste. read more

Power out in our subdivision twice now in three says. 3 hours the other day, more than four today and still off. Claims from the city manager: : We've had tree limbs get into the lines. The primary wire was burned in half today by tree limbs. Will be taking clearances in the coming days to have our contract tree trimming crews work the area. Power to all customers should be back on shortly. I'm saying this is bull. Power is still off in 95 degree weather on hour 4 and counting. read more

24 hours with no power in Feb. '21. Today, with no extreme weather the power is off again. WTF IS THE MATTER WITH THESE PEOPLE?????????

I've been using this company a decade and no problems ever. Very good company and the only one in Garland period.

I love living in Garland. The utility bill is high, but having everything one one bill, at one time can make it seem like it's higher than it really is. My issue is policy related. I have had to pay my light bill late on numerous occasions. It's not always easy to pay every bill near the first of the month. I have been short a couple of dollars before. They once disconnected my electricity for 33 cents. Cents not dollars! I don't mind living in a city that owns the electricity. I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience of having a company that quickly responds to service issues. But the disconnect over cents on a bill in the middle of the summer. Granted they told me to make sure I pay it all, because they disconnect if the bill isn't paid in full. However, they should not be allowed to do that if the bill was 586, which mine is all summer long, and I only missed it by 33 cents. read more

Our power went out last night at 11:00 PM. I called GP&L to report the outage. They were out in about 15 minutes to assess the problem. By about midnight power was restored. This was amazing service in my view, fixing the issue in an hour late at night. Thank you GP&L! read more

We forgot to pay our light 10/29/19. They cut off our light. When I came home from work by 3:34 we paid our bill right away & called to reconnect our light. I was told a technician was all ready on their way & that it would be from the moment I called till 8 before the connected it. We went the whole night with no light, the apartment was 69 degrees & I have 2 little children & a cat & as a diabetic with nerve damage, I woke up with the worst knee pain ever. They had plenty of time to go connect our light & they didn't. But they are so quick to go disconnect your service when you're late on payment. It's a shame & I hope no one else has to go thru this specially when it's a hot summer night or a cold rainy night. read more

POWER GOT TURNED OFF AFTER PAYING MY BILL 2 WEEKS EARLY. I got charged a $30 late fee because my payments was 'NSF' 'server couldn't find account' and more run arounds from the customer service reps. Ihave my confirmation # and email for proof of ATTEMPTING to make my payment because I am a reliable and always in 'good faith' with paying my providers. Garland City Power did not want to waive my $30 fee. TERRIBLE decision to move to Garland and use their service. I will be moving in two months and will never use this service again and will let others know my troubles and issues I went through to pay my bill 2 weeks early. read more

Garland Power & Light has the most awful customer service, as well as no business ethics involved in their company. Want to call to pay your electric bill or have a question about it? You can't even do THAT anymore because the one customer service line they provide is tied up all day long...must be all the other residents complaining on the same things I have to complain about as well. You question always has a "no" answer, no matter what that might be. And since they are also your water and waste provider, don't expect too much on that end either...they can't even leave a recycle bin if you request one. My neighbor's son parks in front of my garbage can on MY PROPERTY often, and if he does I have to REMOVE MY TRASHCAN and move it somewhere else (middle of my yard according to GPL) so that "they can get to it or they will not be picking up my trash". Yeah, and the first time it happened -they left the trash there for two weeks basically just to "make a point". My bills have been about $300-$600 every month since we moved to Garland. Needless to say, we will be moving within the next year. We have had every possible test done, a new eco-friendly unit put in, and our house is only a little over 1200 square feet...so NOT THAT BIG. Tell me how my bill is that large when NO ONE is home during the day and I go so far as to unplug every possible thing in the house --deregulation, that's how! Oh, and by the way...if you are late paying your bill more than ONE TIME, they keep your deposit for you. And by late, it's "month to month" so the 26th of every month is the "cut off" and not one day after. I asked for one day after once (as my payday is Friday and not Thursday -they cut off my electricity within minutes of me asking for the "assistance" that their website so BOLDLY states they offer. They don't care if you have an infant or you've paid on time every other time. That's their "fee" for not answering their payment center phones and having to "do all this extra work" according to one of their representatives. Other neighbors have told me they have even been hung up on! And this is the kind of "service" we all pay for at that rate 29/kwh -are you SERIOUS?! I might as well move to Hawaii for that kind of money being thrown out the window. In fact, this is the one reason reason we are moving. We just want back in with a "normal" electric company. BTW -City of Garland itself is a time bomb. They let sex offenders live close to schools and they HOUSE them convienently down the road from Daughtry Elementary School on Miller Rd. My neighbor brings in illegal aliens from Mexico. Everyone knows it. He has apartments built on the back of his house where they live until they find a home of their own or get to where they are going. If you report it, City doesn't care to investigate. read more
