During treatment, I had to change insurance carriers because of an unexpected job change. At the end of treatment, the office removed the entire Delta Dental in-network adjustment (even thought Delta paid out 77% of my benefit), charged an administrative fee related to filing with the new insurance carrier, and applied charges for bracket repairs that had previously been courtesy-waived. These financial adjustments were not clearly communicated to us when the insurance changed about a year earlier, nor were we given a revised financial estimate at that time. What was most frustrating was that the office had approximately a year to communicate these financial implications, but the adjustments were ultimately applied to my account without prior communication. I only became aware of them when I asked about the account because I had prepaid my portion based on the original treatment estimate. In my opinion, the biggest issue was not the amount itself, but the lack of transparency about how my financial responsibility could change after the insurance change. Communication was equally frustrating. I first raised questions about the account reconciliation in early June and spent nearly two months trying to obtain a clear explanation. Multiple email exchanges did not resolve the issue, and my requests for a face-to-face discussion initially went unanswered. At my daughter's final retainer appointment, I waited more than an hour after the other patients had left before I was finally able to discuss the account. I had notified the office in advance that I wanted to review the final charges, so I found the experience particularly disappointing. To Dr. Christy's credit, she ultimately took the time to meet with me and explain her reasoning. I appreciate that effort, although I still do not agree with all of the financial adjustments. For prospective patients, I strongly recommend asking detailed questions before starting treatment about what happens if your insurance changes, whether in-network discounts can be removed after coverage terminates, whether additional administrative fees may apply, how previously waived charges are handled, and how excess insurance payments are reconciled. Overall, while my daughter's treatment outcome was as expected, the lack of transparency in the financial process and the difficulty communicating with the office at the end of treatment made this a very frustrating experience. Based on the overall experience, I would not recommend this office.

Recently, my jaw started locking, cracking, and feeling tight after eating, and I called to ask for advice since I still have braces on. The response I got was completely unkind and dismissive. They made it clear they wouldn't even look at me because of the balance. I wasn't asking for a free service . I just needed help with pain that could be related to the treatment they started. It's disappointing and sad to see a place that works with people's health treat patients like numbers instead of humans. Dental and orthodontic work isn't cheap, and sometimes life happens but compassion doesn't cost a thing. It turned out to be the office's administrative week, and almost everyone was out except for one assistant. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes, and the appointment was rushed. The next morning, we had to wait another 30 minutes for the removable retainer, which caused us to shuffle our other plans. I understand that scheduling can be challenging, but it would have been very helpful if the office had informed us in advance that it was their administrative week and the doctor was not on site.

But the office's shady billing practices leaves me very uncomfortable. My daughter had an expander placed and has only had 2 follow-up visits. When I checked my insurance, I found 13 claims submitted, with several for dates when my daughter wasn't even seen. I contacted my insurance, and they told me to file a complaint. Lemke initially told me I owed $800+. After I spoke to the insurance company, that amount dropped to $89, which they said was for X-rays my insurance didn't cover. However, my insurance told me Lemke never submitted a claim for those X-rays. Now they took out my daughter's expander and says she needs a retainer. My insurance says retainers are covered, but Lemke is telling me I need to pay cash upfront and submit the claim myself. What concerns me is that a parent could receive a large balance, assume it is correct, and pay it without realizing there may be discrepancies in the insurance claims. Please check your insurance claims and EOBs carefully if you're a patient there. Make sure the dates and services actually match what your child received. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Lemke Orthodontics and would strongly encourage other parents to carefully review their billing. I will be following up with an official complaint with the Texas state board, texas dental association and the attorney general's office.

They then presented a corrective plan that included invisaline for almost $7000. My father in law, who is a dentist and does invisaline (he did invsaline on me years ago), advised us against invisiline on our son, so we questioned this recommendation by Dr Halford and said we prefer tradional braces. Dr Halford dismissed this and gave us some salesmen speech about more advanced technology and they only do invisaline. Having done invisaline myself for 2 years it is not the technology that makes it ineffectual with children, but a lack of discipline to keep removable aligners in thier mouths when the they hurt or to brush thier teeth before putting aligners back in. We were put aback that they would advocate and try to sell us with misleading and unrealistic info on a treatment plan we already said we didn't want (seriously if we were going to do invisaline we would do it for free with my father not pay this hack $7k). He also proceeded to say that he only sees patients with invisaline every 15 to 18 weeks but prefers having pictures sent in weekly. This borders on teledentristry, which is illegal in the state of Texas. My father states he sees patients every 4-6 weeks, which is standard from other dentists we have talked to. When we asked if they did braces at all, they replied we start off all patients on invisaline and if it doesn't work or there is inauffient progress then they start traditional braces. This raised all kinds of red flags, because invisaline is supposed to be able to fix any smile. Then it clicked this is thier hustle they sell the more expensive invisaline even if they know it might ineffectual only to later swap to braces (which isn't included in the original quote) for more money. So these ppl are unethical hacks, who did not do thier due diligence in the consultation and from what it sounds like they don't do it either once treatment has begun. They did not give us the impression that they are interested in helping my son, but only see him as $$$. In the end, we got multiple ortho estimates and Dr. Halford is the only one that recommended invisaline. All the others corroborated my father who said he is too young for invisaline to be effective. All the others recommended trad. Braces. Also Dr. Halford's "more efficient and better" treatment plan was the most expensive option by more that $1500 and longer than traditional braces. Avoid these guys they are like snakeoil salesmen who are looking to take you for as much as they can.

So, if you have problems that cant wait, hopefully you'll have a problem on the day they are closer to you. (Note that they dont share records b/w the locations either so if you call the other office they wont know anything.) They dont use email. There are a lot of people moving through his office. Sometimes I get the feeling im a number rather a patient. I rarely see the Doc, its mostly his assistants doing the work and the assistants catching problems / making comments. The offices are nice, clean, the assistants are great and he did finance. Doc is a nice guy but I think he should spend more time with his patients. Finance was helpful, he didnt require it all up front like other locations tried with me.

Nervous about starting orthodontic work so young, I consulted a few different orthodontists in the area, and Dr. Khan was the ONLY one that didn't rush me into making a decision to start orthodontic work immediately on my 7 year old. In fact, he suggested that we wait another year and re-evaluate after my son had another year of growth and maturity. I truly appreciated Dr. Khan's honesty with me, and he earned a new patient that day because of it. Fast forward to 2018, and after consulting with Dr. Khan, we decided to begin the process of phase 1 orthodontics. We started with an expander to widen my son's palate and then proceeded to phase 1 braces. One thing that stood out to me during the process was the way Dr. Khan respected my son as the patient. At every visit, he was sure to explain the process to both my son and me, creating a great sense of comfort and trust with my son. We kept the phase 1 braces on for about 6-12 months, and my son has been in a retainer since. He has had very little discomfort and pain from the experience, which is a miracle if you know anything about young children - and I attribute that to the amazing practice that Dr. Khan runs. As a side note, they also offer little incentives for their young patients to keep them motivated which is great (e.g. Khan coins which they collect at every visit and can redeem for toys). Dr. Khan has recommended holding off on phase 2 orthodontics until my son (now 10) has a little more skeletal growth. He is in no rush to get our money, unlike a lot of other practices in the area. He is very knowledgeable about the industry and has built my confidence throughout this entire process. Whenever we have had any issues, whether it be wires coming out during the braces phase or a retainer breaking, Dr. Khan and his staff have handled the issues with the utmost professionalism, promptness, and respect. His staff is also amazing. They are extremely responsive and accommodating. They are prompt in getting us seen, even on their busiest days the wait time is never more than 10-15 minutes. I will continue to recommend Dr. Khan time and time again whenever I see anyone looking for orthodontist recommendations. We feel very blessed to have found such a great orthodontist!
