While I'm sincerely happy for those reviewers who have had great experiences with Dr Levengood, I am sorry to say my experience was quite different. My experience afforded a dispassionate, assembly line feel. During both visits, the doctor exuded an air of restrained impatience as if there were more important things he could be doing. He provided cavalier responses to questions that seemed important to me. He appeared to be eager to move on to the next patient, even after showing up 95 minutes late for my second appointment. Dr. Levengood recommended surgery immediately after reading the MRI report without actually seeing the MRI. If I'm going to have surgery done, I want it done by someone who has the time to get to know me and I him. Instead, I felt more like the next order at a Waffle House. Also, as seen in another review, he gave me a shot I didn't ask for, nor did he consult me. Thankfully, I didn't have an allergic reaction as the other reviewer described. The effect of the shot has been to temporarily reduce pain. While this may sound like a good thing, I've gone for a second opinion from a doctor who is far less eager to do surgery and now the shot makes it difficult to know if physical therapy is working. Consequently, making it difficult to decide whether or not to proceed with surgery. Now that I've received the EOB from my insurance, I can see that the shot was $97 of pure profit. Aside from the copay, it's the only thing on the bill that wasn't covered or discounted by insurance. As best I can tell, the $97 is not for what was in the shot. Just a fee for sticking the needle into my shoulder (Note: I can't verify this conclusion. I'm simply frustrated enough to make the assumption). read more

I love Dr Levengood. He has done a couple of surgeries on me, one was one my left shoulder for an arthroscopy procedure which really helped a lot. I had a slip and fall and broke my wrist. I was able to get an appointment the very next day and surgery two days later. I was so happy I didn't have to wait. He's done other procedures for me as well. I see him for all my orthopedic needs. My sister Martha had shoulder surgery, was given a sling to wear and asked not to remove, keep arm without movement, she had her post surgery appt 12/6/2024 She says she needed an interpreter which was provider virtually, when the Dr enetered the examining room was very mad angry and upset, all these words combined cannot describe the ugly attitude of Dr Levengood The nurse had removed the sling off her arm and put it on the table, he grabed it and threw it violently to the floor, and was yelling since entering the room, that why she was there, why she did not do physical therapy as she should have? My sister is very quiet she never complaints, she stated she did not know she needed PT, nor anyone called her to say so. still after these she explained her shoulder hurt, he left the room after 5 minutes of yelling at her mad still The referral coordinator or Nurse came in who was also very upset and mean to her, She states most of the people at this clinic seem very mean and have a problem could be a racist problem and I am not trying to be judgemental. Let me start off by saying that Dr. Levengood repaired a rotator cuff fray (not complete tear) back around 2016 or 2017 that was awesome. He did a great job with that! My sister, niece, nephew, husband, and I have seen him over the years. Dr. Levengood stacks his patients like 5 deep. So, you will hear him for an hour going down the hall and seeing each patient one by one. One day I was so frustrated at waiting for an hour, that went out in the hall to the nurse's station and said that due to me being an hourly employee, I don't get paid to sit in their office for an hour and then miss the work time that it takes me to get to their later morning appt., sit there for an hour, wait to talk to Levengood and then commute to work. Around 2017/2018, I saw Levengood for a knee issue and without my permission, he injected a cortisone shot into my knee. I was shocked that he so casually gave me the injection. That was Friday. By Monday, I had the worst allergic reaction I have ever had to a drug. I missed 2 days of work. The migraine med was not working. My father drove me to Lawrenceville Family Practice, and Dr. Whiteneck had to give me a shot in my butt, and he was shocked by my condition to the point where he was seconds away from calling 911. I felt like I was having a stroke. I didn't know how to form a sentence to ask for water or even find the restroom in my house. I went to my computer room thinking the toilet was there, but of course it wasn't. My father stayed in my house downstairs all day and would climb up the stairs to check on me periodically. I made sure that NO doctor ever will give me cortisone again. But Levengood kept offering it up every time I saw him for some reason, and I kept reminding him I can't take that drug. Plus, it's a worthless injection since it's a short-term gain. But it's also very dangerous. For women the following side effects can happen: "Cortisone (steroid) shots can have side effects in women, including12: Weight gain Mood swings High blood sugar Menstrual changes Skin problems Osteoporosis Pain at the injection site Temporary increase in swelling Bruising Temporarily increased blood sugar levels People with diabetes should check their blood sugar level more often for about five days after a cortisone shot." I saw him for left knee issue in 2023 and after MRI he said I would eventually need a knee replacement, but I was too young to get it now. He prescribed Gelsyn-3 knee injections which were extremely painful for around $300 total. I then went to get a 2nd opinion at Emory at the beginning of 2024 and the nationally renowned doctor told me that my knee was perfect and that if I was his sister, he would tell me not to let anyone touch my knee since it was perfect. So, if my knee was perfect, why would I need a full knee replacement? This nationally known doctor at Emory said that for my elbow, I should get PT at Levengood's office since their PT dept. is amazing. However, Levengood's office would not allow me to do that unless I paid Levengood another co-pay to look at my elbow. Why would I want to pay another doctor to take x-rays or an MRI and then pay another co-pay and miss work time again just to get P/T? So, I ended up going to an Emory PT location for the PT which was $160 out-of-pocket for some reason (even with insurance). Recently I went to another orthopedic doctor for right elbow pain, and when I mentioned Levengood as doing a great rotator cuff surgery but not good knee assessment, he said his office calls him Dr. Lessthangood. In addition, a previous Sunday School classmate who is a nurse told me that he was in the OR w/Levengood on several occasions where he saw dangerous mistakes. My husband and I have both been to Dr. Levengood's office over the last 10 years. However, this most recent visit was unpleasant because of the receptionist's demeanor...Almost hostile in her questions and answers. Not much of a "reception"The doctors and nurses are helpful, but even they seem too busy to answer all of your questions. I felt like an intrusion. read more

Dr Levengood did my full knee replacement surgery in Jan 2023. I walked in the hospital the day I had surgery. I went to PT and did what they said! I saw his PA Diana Deen she is wonderful too! I would definitely recommend Gary Levengood MD. I'm walking without pain and feel great! read more

He has put a new knee and elbow on my husband he just did a rotator cuff for myself and he also cleaned up a knee not long ago and fix my broken foot. And he has also worked on one of my sons. I fractured my right radial head and looked up this orthopedic on yelp. The PA I saw (Mr. Harris) was very good. He did a great job of explaining my medical condition to me in a way that I really understood. There were students/interns present during all my visits. As a nurse of over 39 years, I am very selective in who treats my family members, my friends, or myself. Dr. Levengood is my personal orthopedic surgeon and physician of choice! He has never failed to successfully treat any emergent or longstanding problem among my family members and friends who have used his services. Dr. Levengood is diligent in keeping up to date on the many methods, procedures, and practices needed to provide the absolute best care possible. I am an OR nurse and have dealt with many many different physicians over the years. I can honestly say that I have never seen better diagnosis, recovery, and restoration of quality of life than those of the patients of Dr.Gary Levengood. This physician tells it like it is so if you wish to be cottled and everything sugarcoated, don't use him, as he expects you to do your part in the recovery period so that you will have the best results you could have. He is a very busy surgeon! Believe me, you may sometimes wait to be seen but he is well worth the wait because he deals with all the emergency room calls, patient concerns, hospital and rehab during office hours while providing excellent patient care for his patients.- read more

I made a same day appointment and arrived 15 minutes early. 1 hour later, I am still waiting to be seen. I have observed the receptionist treat people of color in a markedly unreceptive way. Specifically, she spoke to a woman if color quite loudly about a financial manner instead of directing her to a more private setting to handle her business. At the conclusion of the conversation, she received no thank you. Moments later, a person not of color was spoken to in hushed tones about the exact same issue. RUDE! No apologies were offered for our intolerable long wait. We were made to wait an additional 45 minutes in the medical room before the doctor came in. He too was unapologetic, and seemingly unconcerned with our well being or wait time. I would give this place half a star if it was available. read more

Dr. Levengood performed a partial knee replacement and acl repair on me in March of 2016. He under-diagnosed the arthritis on my knee and this led to me losing 8 months of my life. I had to undergo a complete knee replacement in December of 2016 as a result (with a different doctor thankfully). Furthermore, the wound created as a result of the surgery on my knee did not properly heal. He never cared about the state of the wound and I had to seek treatment by myself at a wound clinic for 2 months after my surgery. DO NOT OBTAIN ANY KIND OF KNEE PROCEDURE FROM THIS DOCTOR. read more

Well make sure you book plenty of time for your appt. when I arrived for mine there were 5 people ahead of me. Do the math. 5 people x approx 10 mins each = 50 min wait for my appt- after being called it was was another 1.5 hours before I got out. Other options?? read more

Arrived 15 minutes prior to my daughter's appt time and waited over 2 hours before called to exam room. After 10 more minutes my family and I left the office. Has definitely exceeded his capacity to provide good care to patients. Family and I could swear we heard a 'racial slur from a staff discussion' while in waiting room. Anyway. We have been patients for 2 years and Dr Levengood has poor bedside manners. He is always is in a disrespectful 'rush' mode. PA was cordial and attentative. 3 out of 4 appts resulted in waits over 1 hour. While I believe he is a good doctor, the office scheduling is very poor. Yes he may be able to see you last minute and work you in, but he sacrifices his other patients and cause them to have extended waits. Good doctors have waits, I get that but when sales reps are seen before a patient, that is simply disrespectful to the people who scheduled an appt and are waiting back in the room just to be seen for a follow up. read more

Saw Dr. Levengood 2 years ago and had a great experience. He seemed like he cared about getting me back to exercising! This go around... I'm waiting 2 hours before I even see him, then only see him for 5 minutes. He has an entourage of help... I had 4 people come in to participate at some level during my 2 hour wait. I'll probably never see them again. Dr. Levengood comes across as arrogant and uninterested. Does not take the time to explain what is going on and options to correct the problem. Seems to solve pain with an injection and is not quick to try and resolve the real problem. After 2nd 2 hr wait and poor service, I've decided to try someone else out that might care. read more
