I live one hour away from my vacation condo in Birch Bay, where a shower drain needed to be replaced as it was leaking. David, the plumber, told me he "looked it up" and for the work it would cost $889. I had paid a service fee of $99 to have him come and look at the job. I would lose that fee if I bailed. In addition, I was informed I would have to pay an extra 3% of the bill because I was transferring funds from my WECU debit account to the business account for Gary's Plumbing. I told him there are no fees with WECU. He said "our system is just set up that way." About one hour later I received an bill via email for $907. Four pictures of the work were attached. None of the parts looked very expensive, and the work was done within one hour. The work is warranted for one month. Incredibly expensive. Don't use them. read more

We had a clogged sewer line that blocked 90% of our drains. Came out same day on a Saturday. Plumber and apprentice was very knowledgeable and cleared the problem quickly. Cleaned up everything very well including one of the toilets that we had dropped rust into from snaking we t4ried (clog was out of reach). Star down due to Gary's method of quoting a flat (expensive) rate based on work to be done. Work will most of the time come in under. If you're appreciative of the plumber maybe they will give you a price break. I prefer T&M which is fair to both parties. read more

I have used Gary's Plumbing and Heating for several years (annual furnace tuneup and a plumbing repair). I had good experience with a couple of their technicians, at least that's what I thought. Clearly, I did not know any better. I decided to switch to different companies for these two main reasons. PRICING Their pricing is outrageous. I had to have the water pressure reducing valve (PRV) replaced. Gary's estimate: $950.75 ($856 plus tax)! I had Richards Pluming (https://www.yelp.com/biz/richards-plumbing-service-custer?osq=plumbers) replace it, and it was $516.33 ($475 plus tax). It only took him 45 minutes to get it done. I would really like to know how Gary's Plumbing thinks they can charge virtually double of what another local company charges. I'm convinced this is not an isolated case. Please read other negative reviews. Most of their complaints are about their pricing. TECHNICIAN I had good experience with some of their technicians in the past, but one of the guys who worked on the furnace this past fall was pretty bad. His way of talking to me was condescending to begin with. He pointed that my water heater was slowly leaking. I'm glad that he found it and brought it to my attention. When he started taking pictures of the water heater, I thought it was a bit weird. He told me he did to protect his company from false accusations from customers. I don't mind at all companies documenting their work, but I don't appreciate this technician's (or Gary's Plumbing's) assumption that customers lie and blame them. In my experience, time and materials is the normal billing structure for craftsman. Gary's Plumbing charges what they feel will be the average amount to make a profit on a particular type of job. If there are extra complications about your project, their approach may be beneficial; in our case there were not and we initially felt the billing was too high. My preference is to pay experts for their time and expertise to complete my job. read more

Dear all, We're client to call 3607349700 of Gary's Plumbing & Heating for repair service, there are two guys came by checking the pipe, they did on purpose to turn on the faucet when we discussed their quote, the water is all over the place in workshop we didn't know. They called 911 because he pretended to complain that he saw we argued. They came here to make trouble to us, he yelled at me:" all you dead." His attitude is very reckless,rude and barbaric to against us without any reasons because we're nice them, I had home camera everywhere recorded what we said and our behavior, we didn't do anything wrong to them, didn't offend them. Didn't show up for the first appointment. Rescheduled, and when they came, they wouldn't even look at the problem, just tried to sell me a new hot water tank for an outrageous price--between $4,000 and $12,000. This to replace a hot water tank I put in a few years ago for $1.500. Called their competition who came the same day and fixed the problem with parts they normally carry on the truck -- for $100. They quickly installed bathroom faucet and examined all other plumbing fixtures and hoses in my home. Loren was very efficient and courteous. Gary's Plumbing & Heating has tiered/fixed price levels that define the length of the labor warranty and level of extra safety features (like automatically shutting down the water heater if it starts to leak like mine is doing). I guess they could post them on their website so I'd know in advance. Instead I had to pay $69.50 plus tax to have a technician look at my easily accessible water heater that was already strapped to the wall and offer their lowest price of $2300 which is 40% above competing offers from reputable companies, one of which I selected to replace my water heater. I should also mention that their standardized estimate doesn't tell me anything about the water heater they would install. No brand name, model number, capacity in gallons, number of BTUs. All it says is "Replace 50 gal ng water heater". They are so focused on their installation price tiers that the actual water heater, and its price, is incidental to the estimate. read more

Do not use Gary's Plumbing unless you are wanting to get ripped off. I was out of town and there was a leak in an apartment we rent out (dishwasher/sink connection). Pretty simple. I made the mistake of telling them I was out of town.... More on that in a minute. The way they work is they charge $89 for a service visit. They waive that fee if you accept their pricing for the work. Sounds pretty good right? They showed up at the apartment at 9:30-9:35, basically within the window they agreed to. They called and quoted me nearly $400 to fix the leak. I asked why it was so much. They didn't really have an answer and I was out of town and needed it fixed. I assumed it was far more involved than I initially thought. Here's the thing - I was invoiced at 10:22 for nearly $400 dollars. This means Gary's Plumbing was doing active work for something like 40 minutes maximum. The parts they used were inexpensive. I asked 3 separate times for a breakdown of the bill. Parts, labor, etc. THEY REFUSED. I have never had any business refuse to provide a pricing breakdown in a detailed invoice. They kept saying their pricing is not time and materials it involves a lot of factors. Ok - you have a unique pricing model. Great - What are those factors? They would not say. Seriously!! They will not tell you why your bill is whatever it is. They seem to extract whatever they can and refuse to provide an actual bill with detail. Here's what I learned: The "pricing factors" used by Gary's Plumbing seem to be things like ability to pay, high level of need, active leak, inability to do it yourself (again - I was out of town), etc. This is scam pricing. Fast response than any other out there. Could of done the job myself but just got done with 3 days of loading and unloading trucks for a move. Very clean installation, service dude gives you 4 options to install new water heater. Thinking about what I just installed in my rental in July same natural gas hot water heater, the quote was $3300 for the new unit and connections including instant hot water and aspiration tank. I asked whats the difference if I can buy the unit for $1100 at home depot today and they said the professional install and testing, making it turn on and move it a bit to the left. Overall great people, and a quick install if your really in a jam but lots of labor fluff for an install most handymen could do. read more

The previous owners of our home did the plumbing to theshower by themselves which has led to a lot of problems. Our bath spout broke off late on a Friday night. I called another place before hand that was going to charge me about 300$ for an "after hour fee" on top of the cost of service and they wouldn't be there for another 5 hours. So i called around and found Gary's plumbing who was able to send someone out in 30 minutes and the cost was less than the other company's fee i was about to pay! Our plumber was Jeremy and he was professional and knowledgeable on plumbing and we ended up having him redo all of our shower and bath plumbing a few days later and had him install our new bath fixtures as well. Replacement Toilet After speaking with a representative at Gary's Plumbing, we scheduled for them to bring and install a replacement toilet with one at the seat height of 16". The toilet they installed was less than 15 inches floor to rim. Furthermore it was the cheapest, cheesiest, plastic toilet ever made. Shane was acommodating when asked about it said they were happy to reinstall a toilet that I would go out and purchase. The catch was an additional service fee. Once it was all completed we were out more than $1000 to Gary's and we had to purchase our toilet. Lesson learned: Purchase the toilet you want, call plumber and get installation fee. DO NOT allow them to bring the toilet. The people were courteous, and professional. Just beware that prices are paramount and quality of produce lacking, quality of service is good. So 4 stars. Two days before Christmas the same thing happened again & I was told I needed 3 new toilets and the cost would be about $1300.00. Ouch. Second opinion: I learned that toilets have date stamps (!) one was put installed in 2009 (photo), another 1998. Because the house was vacant for nearly a year, there was some buildup. "Not a big deal." Solution: One toilet fill valve ($21.00) and two jugs of CLR ($14.00). All three toilets now work better than they ever have. Gary's sold me an inline water heater. The experience has been miserable and extremely expensive from start to finish. The unit,, and subsequent repairs and replacements, have never functioned properly. Even when parts have been covered under warranty, Gary's has charged me thousands of dollars to make repairs that took only a few hours. Given that this is a highly rated unit, I've come to believe that poor installation and lack of technical knowledge of the system are major contributors to the problems. If you are upgrading your hot water heater to an inline, tankless, system, look elsewhere. read more

My job was a simple valve and pressure regular upgrade that took them 3 hours to install and they charged me $1,600. Only call here if you want the following from them: 1) Terrible customer service 2) Overpriced (expect up to double the cost) services compared to other companies 3) Luring you in with a relatively cheap $40 examination fee that will be waived if services are performed They prioritize emergency cases over people who actually scheduled in advance for a technician to come over during a given time slot. Scheduled an appointment days in advance? Tough luck. If emergency cases come up, they are likely to cancel your existing appointment with no prior notice whatsoever. Upon this happening myself, the representative rescheduled my appointment while hinting that it would be better to schedule in the mornings in case emergencies come up again. "So, no guarantees?," I asked. "I cannot make any guarantees since emergency cases may come up."(paraphrased) This means they do not make it an obligation to keep their appointments, high-cost emergency cases are prioritized over scheduled appointments, do not have designated regular and emergency technicians, and overbook instead of turning down emergency cases even when there is an existing appointment for that time slot. I also requested a water heater replacement on a prior instance, only for it to cost over $3,000. Just for a tanked, standard residential water heater. I honestly didn't know any better so that's my fault, but the only explanation I received for the ridiculous cost was installation and labor, which somehow justifies it. That should've been a red flag right there. Looking back, I should've just called someone else, as even I knew that such water heaters themselves would be under the $1,000 mark. I am only giving one star (as opposed to zero) since the representative offered a small discount for the rescheduling, only after I requested compensation, and the new water heater works. That's something at least. Otherwise, unless you don't mind being ripped off, have money to spare or don't mind their terrible customer service, this place isn't for you, or anyone for that matter. read more

I was charged $400 plus tax for a ' quick fix ' clog removal that was neither quick nor fixed. I requested a refund of half of what I paid considering that they used my ladder, my hose and we're unable to remove the clog. They told me that they would get back to me in a couple of days. After over a week I have had no response from them. For a company that claims to pride itself on customer satisfaction, I was very dissatisfied. Very, VERY impressed with Gary's Plumbing! Our condominium's shower had plumbing problems . . . and at the worst time! Days ago, my wife and listed our Bay view condo for sale. Clearly, we needed a qualified plumber who could fix our plumbing issue quickly and flawlessly. I got on the phone and contacted other local plumbing companies with supposedly strong reputations and reviews. I got nowhere quick. Some companies simply couldn't guarantee a solid appointment time. And the one company that did ultimately failed to show up. Unbelievable! Gary's, on the other hand, was EXCELLENT from the get-go. Their staff was extremely professional on the phone. Customer Service booked a solid appointment time for one of their plumbers, Cruz, to come out and take a look. Cruz arrived on time and was extremely courteous, quick and professional. He surveyed our plumbing issue, explained the problem and gave a reasonable estimate of the repair costs with options on how much we could spend. Immediately we signed up a repair date. We had found the right plumbing company. On "repair day," Cruz arrived and coordinated efforts with our building management to shut off/on the water to our condo. He tackled the problem. Within 3-4 hours, Cruz conquered it. As promised, he installed new and modern hardware with no hassle, no struggle and no extra costs. If you call, you will learn that Gary's doesn't give any pricing over the phone, and there is a $40 charge for them to come out and give a bid. It's a system that makes it hard to turn them away, even when the estimate is high... and it was. I agreed to their price ($240... which became $280 with tax) to snake my bathtub drain, even though I had only paid $160 two years ago for the same job. I was thinking that maybe it was more complicated this time around, and also that I didn't want to pay $40 for an estimate. Well, it was a quick fix... they were done in less than an hour, but the price didn't budge. So, $280 for an hour of work, and my husband and I were disgruntled customers. When I called Gary's to let them know, we were offered a bunch of faulty logic and a $25 credit for future work to compensate for the overcharge. I can't see why I would ever cash in that 'credit'. From this experience we discovered Gary's pricing to be nearly DOUBLE that of other local plumbers. I will never call Gary's again. read more

I had a leak in my sewer line in the crawl space beneath my house. Pretty simple job. I could see the crack in the pipe. I knew I could do it myself, but thought I would just let the pros take it. The leak had been there a long time and there was no hurry. My wife met them at the house and they gave her a quote that she agreed to. They went under the house, cut out the tiny section of pipe and replaced it, then came out and charged us $950 for less than two hours worth of work. I was shocked and felt taken advantage of. Yes, they cleaned up some of the nasty sewage. But $450 per hour is nuts. Way out of line. I called the business number and the administrative assistant said she would tell Gary. Got no response.
