Each time they were: very responsive, prompt, friendly, very knowledge, helpful, incredibly communicative, professional, kind, considerate, pleasurable to work with, able to offer useful suggestions and fairly priced. My recent plumbing episode had all the makings for an absolutely miserable event. Late in the afternoon my tenant called. The water heater was spewing water. I called Ben Whitelaw and left a voicemail. Within two minutes he called back. I explained my situation. I was expecting the normal, "I'm really busy and booked until sometime next week". However what I heard was, "Can you give me your tenants phone number and I will arrange with them". I was in a bit of disbelief and incredibly appreciative. The next morning by 10:30am, new parts were already installed and all the related problems were fixed and functioning. It is significant to note a couple of things: 1) Ben was indeed busy, but he made room in his schedule for this "emergency", and 2) This all happened during our cold snap - the temperatures were around 10-15 degrees. Highly recommend Ben at Whitelaw Plumbing. We initially called him to help us resolve a faucet leak on an antique pedestal sink at our rental house. He was able to quickly identify the problem and source the parts to fix rather replace. While there he noticed the expansion tank looked old and checked whether it was functioning properly without us even asking. Turns out it wasn't which, if left alone, could have resulted in burst pipes. We were so grateful. We have called on Ben a couple times since for other issues in our main home and he is always responsive, quick to solve the problem, and helpful as to how to avoid problems in the future. Added a new bathroom, altered plumbing in two bathrooms being remodeled as well as fixed my main sewer line and did a number of custom tweaks around the house. I contacted Whitelaw Plumbing for a sump pump replacement. I called the number they list as their primary contact method, which goes to a machine. I was redirected to their email address and wrote them an email 11 days ago, but ultimately got no response. Time wasted. I acknowledge that plumbers get busy and cannot always take all jobs, but the other plumbers I contacted all responded promptly (2 declined the work, and 1 took and completed the job). Plumbing work tends to be time-sensitive, so I would be wary of working with someone who may or may not reply to messages more often than once every 2 weeks. read more

I have a major plumbing crush on Ben! Our super trustworthy go-to plumber moved to Georgia so I have been searching for a new one. I got several quotes from plumbers recommended by neighbors and friends and all the bids came about the same, but my gut told me to go with Ben. Not only does he have the best plumbing skillz, he also has the most fantastic service I have ever experienced. As an example, we had him quote putting a new toilet in, but then my spouse got ambitious and decided to do it himself. Well, he failed. And when Ben came to do the other work, he saw our problem, identified how to fix it, THEN rearranged his schedule, AND stayed until 7:30pm at our house on a Friday night. There isn't a better plumber out there in my opinion!!! We were fortunate enough to meet Ben and have him display his talent when we completely remodeled our Queen Anne condo. Ben is an experienced plumber who is willing to go the extra mile to make your project go smoothly. Ben is always looking out for his customers. As our project got more complicated than expected, he said several times that all he wanted was for us to be happy. I felt like it was like my own brother was doing the plumbing in our home. Ben is extremely honest, hard working, and very easy to work with. Ben is also a JourneyMan plumber which means he has a very large amount of licensed experience in case you are as clueless about licensing as I used to be. Never let an unlicensed plumber work on your home. This is key to not having to have the work done 3 times. A contractor license does not equal a plumber license. It isn't the paper that is as important as the values of following the right way of doing things and the experience that this piece of paper represents. If someone is going to take shortcuts, you don't want them working on your plumbing. Here's the reason for this low review. We called and followed directions on the voicemail to email information to them and they would respond. It's been about 2 WEEKS and we never heard back. Not even a "sorry but your job is too small" or "we don't have time to fit you in". Nothing. Very poor and I will try another company. I have changed my review to slightly better, as I received a email back from Whitelaw Plumbing. He apologized for taking so long to get back to me.
