They are talented, organized, fair, willing to listen, easy to deal with, professional, honest, and willing to make amends when they don't live up to their high standards. Briefly, we bought an apartment in an old Center City building that was suffering from hideous, drab brown walls that sucked the life out of the place. When we contacted Vandele, they were prompt and professional (unlike another painter who bailed on us at the last moment), first in scheduling an estimate - at a really competitive price - and then at scheduling the job itself. They even met us halfway with the price of a paint that we'd really loved, even though it should have been a higher cost. They offer a design consultation, which happened about a week out from the start date. My partner and I had already spent quite a bit of time thinking through color schemes, so this session was more of a chance to have a professional listen to us and reassure that what we wanted to do would look good. I think if you are more uncertain of color, you could get a real consultation and recommendations, but in our case, we just needed someone to tell us to stop looking at paint sample cards, that we had made a great choice. It's a small thing, but these nice, small things are what separate Vandele from others. On the day of the painting, the painters showed up on time, first thing in the morning. They would be there every morning on time for the next 4 days, just as the company said they would. I cannot tell you how much of a relief it is to have people do what they say, to not be worried the job won't get done, to have to be calling to find out what is going on, arguing to get what you are paying for. Since both of us work, it was wonderful to leave the apartment in the morning and know that we would not have to worry about the painting during the day and would be able to return at night to see the progress made during the day. They did their job while we did ours. After 4 days of work, the apartment truly looked like a different place. In the end, that is probably the most important part of the job and they excelled at this as well. Everything looked clean and skillfully done, no sloppy splattered paint where it didn't belong, no missed spots or not enough coats. Just clean edges, vibrant paint and a beautiful apartment that we could now call our own. After the job was complete, we did have one issue, but the way Vandele handled it makes me want to recommend them even more. We initially went with a bold color in the bathroom and immediately regretted our decision - the painters repainted it white the next day. After the job was completed and we resumed showering, immediately we realized that the paint was not handling the moisture well, as it looked like it was literally sweating out yellow paint. We contacted Vandele and showed them the problem; they agreed that the bathroom-specific paint was not used with all of the changes and offered to repaint the bathroom at no charge in a timely manner. No argument, no hassling over price, just an acknowledgment of a mistake and a plan to remedy it. We can't ask for anything more.

It was a larger project that, given the work, was pretty disruptive to our day-to-day life (jackhammers on the walls, sheets of plastic taped up in a maze, and brick dust everywhere) but Harlan's incredible team worked quickly and punctually to get the job done in about a week's time. Harlan came out to give us a quote and spent over an hour walking through all of the things that could be done and explaining the processes. This was very comforting, especially as a first time home buyer. We had a significant amount of work that needed to be done (painting walls/trim/doors, window trim installed, quarter round installed, dry wall installation, exposing a brick wall, exterior painting and the list goes on). They did a really bad job of painting the kitchen cabinets as well as some doors. Lots of texture…read moreshowing through and not done with precision. Never took out any of the knobs, handles, or other fixtures before painting and instead painted around it so all that lazy and sloppy paint job is visible like an eye sore. Planning to get all that paint stripped off now. I am actually doing them a favor by not posting pictures of their paint job.
