I found this to be a great place to enjoy some real German food. The husband and wife team seem to be doing it all. They were really nice and personable. The pretzels were amazing! I got the jagerschnitzel which is thin crispy pork with mushroom brown gravy. It was delicious! The spatzel and red cabbage were great. I had the salad and it comes with a vinegar based dressing and I loved it. I tried the hubby's sauerkraut and potato soup and both were good. I recommend trying them out it was really delicious. Okay so first off i hate giving bad reviews and dropping the stars less than five but this place needed it. The ambiance of the place was great there was a bunch of german decor and what not but the food just made me sick to my stomach i went with my parents and my brother and my mother's schnitzel was so dry and my dads was wayyyy smaller than he thought because he had served in Germany and ate german food but this wasn't what he expected the service was great and the red white and rum (the non-alcohol version) was on tops but please try better with the food before making everyone sick. My wife and I stopped in at Gasthaus for dinner tonight. I started with the Munich dunkel and beer cheese soup and my wife had the salad. The beer was good and the soup was creamy, cheesy and awesome. My wife got the Rahm schnitzel And I got the Jager schnitzel my wife's was a creamy mushroom sauce and mine was a brown gravy with mushrooms . We both liked the brown gravy more. It flavor had much more depth than the cream gravy. But the cream gravy was good just not as flavorful. The sides we had were warm potato salad, sauerkraut, and apple sauce. The potato salad was very good with a lot of bacon flavor. The kraut was fabulous and the apple sauce was apple sauce. Naomi took great care of us she was attentive but not hovering. To start the bratwurst are incredible interior texture is amazing. We split the bratwurst dinner. We got two dumplings and a salad. Dumplings were on point and what we expected. The salad is dill based in herbs. We also enjoyed it. We also got the apple strudel. Once again they knocked it out of the park. Service was friendly and prompt. I haven't been to this place in years, but they're still here so that means they must be doing something right. Germany was my absolute favorite assignment in my AF career. The food had a lot to do with that as we used to travel and eat out A LOT! I ordered the Jaegerschnitzel with a side of red cabbage and spaetzel. It took me right back to Germany. It was fantastic! Everything was freshly made, right down to pounding out the pork loin to a thin patty, and the sauce was made this morning. They offer a chicken option for their schnitzel, but if your religion or lifestyle allows you to eat pork, stick with the pork. It's always the better option for schnitzel as it's always more tender and juicy. I don't know what happened with some people to give this place sub-par reviews, but mine was great! Server brought some pretzels while we looked at the menu. that's the last we saw of her. another party of 5 came in, sat down and at least got their drinks. we waited 20 minutes, my wife tried to flag her down, to no avail. we waited 10 more minutes and left. I guess there is more money and tips from a party of 5 than a party of 2! we walked down to Pats Brewhouse and got waited on and finished our meal- walked back by the Gasthaus and the menus and empty pretzel dish were still on the table. This German restaurant stands out as unique in the middle of a cowboy town like Cody Wy. The place is large with both indoor and outdoor seating. The food and service were good. The restaurant is new and seems to be working out the kinks. They don't have certain menu items every day of the week. They were out of a german beer advertised on the menu. We ordered pretzel nuggets and potato pancakes as out apps. The pretzels came with deli mustard, and the pancakes served with apple sauce. They were both very good. We both had jagerschnitzel, with red cabbage and potatoes. The entree and sides were good. Other menu items include bratwurst, sauerbraten, and various types of schnitzel. They have several German beers as well as Budweiser. We did not have room for dessert. Free parking is street side. read more

This restaurant gets VERY mixed reviews online, but my family stopped at Gasthaus Cardi because we lived in Germany for seven years and have all missed authentic German food. I will say this, I don't think a restaurant that bills itself as authentic German food should serve their appetizer tray with sauces such as hot sauce, BBQ and ranch. Or, for that matter, have fried cheese curds on the appetizer tray. There was nothing about the appetizer tray, in fact, that screamed "authentic German" aside from the Kartoffel Puffer, which were undercooked. While they say they have 15 German beers on tap the first we asked for wasn't available and we heard the waiter telling tables around us that they were out of a number of dishes and desserts. Here is a thought, either serve authentic German food and bill yourself as an authentic German restaurant, or say your food is German-inspired. read more

We love to try German food when we are on the road and this one popped up. The food is good, but pricey for what you get, the schnitzel was solid and my husband really liked the knockwurst with curry sauce. They also got a good beer choice, pretty great options. Service was really slow, the girl was super sweet and friendly, but the food took over an hour. We saw people sitting down and waiting 30+ minutes for service and leaving. unfortunately, this was a big disappointment. My chicken schnitzel fingers were not completely cooked. In addition, we sat for 15 minutes before having anyone interact with us after we seeded. Then we got up, went inside the restaurant and asked a server directly to come out and help us. He did and he was very thorough, and the food did come out fairly quickly. but again, my food was not completely cooked. Literally not cooked. Lastly, the Google or Apple Maps that most of us used to look up restaurants nearby showed that the restaurant was closed. The restaurant was indeed open, and their hours are posted on the door however they need to update all of their information with their current hours. The outdoor seating was. My husband and I ate at Gasthaus Cardi during the Buffalo Bill Art Show event and had the best time! The beer was delicious, our food was incredible - we had the pork chop with the spaetzle and cold German potato salad and side salad then shared some apple strudel for dessert. The spaetzle was so delicious, I will order the spaetzle entree next time we are there for sure! They were out of their pretzels which was a bummer as I was hoping to try the brat burger on a pretzel bun, but the pork chop being so tender and juicy and the spaetzle made up for it! The waitress and cook shared the story of how the restaurant came to be and showed us the unique bar with the swings instead of bar stools. Sat at the bar to have something to eat. Seats at the bar are swings - kitschy; not too comfortable for an indoor space (probably why we were the only ones sitting there). We called ahead about the availability of pretzels with beer cheese because they weren't available last time. We were assured that our family would have what we wanted. The deserts are so old-like cardboard. They charged us a $34 "room fee" because we had 6 people. Wait staff is clueless. Have heard hot and cold things about his restaurant my whole life I am a local. The food was absolutely amazing. When my friend and I came in there was only one other party. But they left shortly after so we had most of the restaurant to ourselves. The staff was so sweet. WOW! best German food I have had in a long time .... maybe forever actually . I can tell you that the pretzel and the schnitzel are the best we ever had. We also had great service by an owner who was working so hard all I wanted to do was get up and help her. Even being so busy she cared for everyone personally and checked in on everyone multiple times. Nothing better as far as German food goes. I don't want to go home as I'm going to crave this food way too much ! As for the throne review - fortunately and unfortunately I didn't have to use the restroom while visiting.
