After our usual walking tour and some window shopping we arrived at the recommended place and got a table. Ms T was not hungry and just wanted a pretzel. I wanted some kind of wurst and found one item that satisfied both; three weißwurst served with a soft pretzel. I wanted something with it and ordered creamy green beans. This was another simple but wonderful meal. I peeled the sausage as we were taught in Münich and ate them with the supplied mustard. The green beans are probably the best I have eaten. They were in a light white sauce seasoned with tiny cubes of ham, bohnenkraut (summer savory) and black pepper. They were absolutely delicious. I make something similar at home with cream instead of the white sauce, but unless I grow my own, I cannot get the high quality, fresh, slender beans that they have. Next time I will copy this version as well as possible. We each drank 0.5L of their house Pilsner which was excellent. Again, we had very friendly and helpful service in a very nice local place. It was another memorable meal on-shore in Germany.

Ein Essen beim Ritter in Schwetzingen mit der Familie und Freunden gehörte während der letzten fast…read more20 Jahre zum festen Bestandteil eines Schlosspark-Besuches. Heute hätte ich dort gerne zu einem besonderen Anlass mit meiner Frau ein schönes Mittagessen gehabt - leider hatten wir dafür auch heute den Ritter ausgewählt. Ich hatte das teuerste Steak aus der Karte (Preis mehr als 35 Euro) bestellt, medium gebraten. Als es geliefert wurde stellte ich fest, dass es nur außen kurz angebraten war und innen völlig roh. Kommentar des Herrn an der Kasse (Oberkellner oder Chef?) : "Das sehe ich auch so". Er verschwand mit meinem Teller. Die Kellnerin musste ich darauf aufmerksam machen, dass nun meine Pommes Frites kalt würden. Auch die wurden mitgenommen. Meine Frau begann nach einer Weile schließlich alleine mit ihrem Essen, ich wartete auf mein Steak. Als meine Frau fast fertig war, fragte ich den Herrn an der Kasse nach dem Verbleib meines Essens. Meine Bestellung wurde schließlich - nun auf meinen Wunsch - storniert. Kommentar des Herrn an der Kasse: "Alles gut.". Eine Entschuldigung gab es nicht. Das Essen meiner Frau bezahlte ich. Beim Verlassen des Restaurants wurde uns hinterhergerufen "einen schönen Tag noch!". Das Restaurant zum Ritter in Schwetzingen hat uns heute zum letzten Mal gesehen.

The Guest House Heidelberg is in my mind akin to staying in a Best Western in the states. It's…read moresafe, and clean enough, but it's nothing to write home about and feels a bit dated. All of that being said there were some things to love about this place: 1. The staff was some of the best we encountered in Germany. Very friendly and accomodating. Even was able to check us in early with no problems at all. 2. It's very walkable to the old town part of Heidelberg 3. It was very affordable while still being comfortable As long as you set your expectations right this will be a pleasant stay for you.
