We started with meat and cheese board accompanied by a picture of white wine which I understood is grown in that region. The two musicians that came to our area was super entertaining and they played sing a long songs and that's what we did we sung along and even did the polka to the waltz. I got the steak vom Mangalicarücken which was great. Pork was moist, sautéed mushrooms were plentiful, and the potato gratin was crisp on the outside and very tasty. My husband got the special, which was deep-fried forest mushrooms. The dish was plentiful, and an excellent meal for vegetarian or anyone. For dessert, my husband ordered the malakoff - nougatnockerl. I am never a sour cherry person, but I tried this and it was incredible. Almost like a cherry tiramisu. I would go back just for this dessert, and I hadn't planned to eat any of it!

It's in the attractive Pötzleinsdorf neighborhood of Vienna at the end of the Pötzleinsdorfer Schloss Park. This rustic culinary institution (founded in 1917) is fairly easy to find and well worth it. In winter it is a warm outpost when the world around it is clothed in white. In summer it can be a welcome stop on a hike in the Vienna Woods. And that is important to know. Though the food is quite good here and nicely highlights the cuisine of the Steirmark, it is also definitely not cheap to eat here. But you can also just enjoy some great Styrian wine in their outdoor garden before completing your hike and returning to the city. Anyway, if you're living in Vienna, learn where the Steirerstöckl is as there is not really another eating & drinking establishment that close to it. You never know when you might be in the Pötzleinsdorf neighborhood or surrounding Vienna Woods!

My rating is based on the taste of the food and…read morehere are the details: Chanterelle mushroom cream soup - very good with a lot of tiny chanterelles in the bowl. Creamy and yet not too heavy. I also liked small potato chunks in the soup which added additional texture. Styrian beef carpaccio - also very good, properly dressed and well balanced. Sheep cheese carpaccio - thinly sliced home made sheep cheese with rucola and pesto. I combined it with the above beef carpaccio which made a killer pairing. Chicken skewer on a bed of salad. Woohoo! The best chicken skewer I ever had. Three different pieces of chicken on a skewer - plain, bacon wrapped and stuffed - cooked to a phenomenally juicy perfection. Pork schnitzel - breaded with an addition of pumpkin seeds and pan fried in butter to a golden perfection. Extremely tender and juicy and perfectly seasoned - possibly one of the best ones I ever had in Vienna. Ice cream dumpling - a sweet tradition that shouldn't be avoided. Hazelnut brandy - a must have. Like a liquid, alcohol rich nutella in a glass. Overall, a great performance by the Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl. The service was great and friendly and the only thing that I didn't like is that (like a lot of other restaurants in Vienna) Wirtshaus Steirerstöckl is cash only!

I had heard good things from neighbors about it but I didn't try it until I recently returned to Vienna. Well I'll be trying it a lot from now on because it is a wonderful addition to my neighborhood's plethora of diverse restaurants & cafes. You are warmly greeted as soon as you walk in. You order at the counter and can choose to eat your food there or take it home with you. Either way, you are going to enjoy some tasty treats. I began with the Em Cha - which were so delicious that after dipping them into the fish sauce, they practically melted in my mouth. (Tip - wrap each em cha in lettuce to make a mini wrap.) My main course of Bac Loi also did not lack for flavor. The pan-fried duck breast and onions were accompanied by a generous rice serving and a mixed salad. Portion sizes were large, prices small. Hey!! Vietnamese Cafe has become a very popular spot in my food-crazy hood. I def know why!

I was…read morevisiting Vienna from Los Angeles with friends, and we spent the day at the cemetery nearby - I don't think we would have found this spot otherwise. It's a quaint place: an old-fashioned building, eclectic décor, candlelight, pewter serving platters. We ordered beers, served in tall steins, and plates of schnitzel that the menu said was served with "a potpourri of salads". The schnitzel was AMAZING. It's one of the best meals I had in Europe (and we dined at Michelin star restaurants on our trip). The potato, vegetable, and condiment accompaniments were perfectly paired. The Austrian beer we tried, Edelweiss, was great. Note - the furniture is old. If you're not a bumbling boor, this won't be a problem, but one annoying person in our group thought he'd be cute by dramatically falling back in his chair when I asked him to move so I could take a picture of the empty dining room. The chair wobbled and he thought it was buckling, so he slammed his knees up under the table, knocking over his tall, full beer. I was so embarrassed that the staff had to bring a towel to mop it up, and they declined to replace it for free as his stupidity caused the spill (not that I blame them one bit). He didn't want to add another charge to the bill, so he got to sit and watch us devour that delicious schnitzel with our beers as he stared at an empty glass. Schnitzel with a side of schaedenfreude.

For example, the dining rooms don't have electricity - just candlelight in the evening or the natural light coming through a stained glass skylight during the day. On warmer days, there is a large gastgarten outside to take advantage of. And what about the food? Well schnitzel is king here. There are many variations including their own unique cornflake encrusted rolled schnitzel called the Concordia Super Schnitzel. With its lentil, salami, and cheese filling, it's very tasty. Try it! And for dessert - don't miss the Topfen Palatschinken! I don't really know how to translate this into English but don't worry - your taste buds will!! So if you are looking for a unique dining experience in Vienna, put the Concordia Schlössl on your list.
