Agree with Scott R. , used to see Dr.Kossoff around 10 years ago. Returned this year to make a much overdue follow-up appointment. Was able to schedule one and had a great experience with the nurses/physician assistants and doctor (Dr.Francis) and was excited to schedule my endoscopy. However I needed to review my work schedule which is often changing to find a day which was suitable and would fit in Dr.Francis' operation schedule. I was assured I could call back and schedule the procedure. Little did I know that I would be at the mercy of the ONE procedure scheduler that the office uses, who is so busy dealing with the phone traffic that they cannot reliably answer the phone. When I asked if there was another way I could schedule the procedure, in person or by some kind of email or patient portal , I was left a very rude message saying that I was sending the scheduler to my voicemail when I was in the middle of various processes at work and had called more than 10 times during the week at different times to try to catch them to schedule the procedure. Not only this but the front desk also had the same track record for answering the phone, as in they never answer. Guess i was lucky to get my initial appointment over the phone in the first place. Will not be returning, heading to another Gastro that actually has adequately and functioning staff. I would not give this office your patronage, they are comfortable knowing they are a much lauded office so they don't take care of patients. read more

I have seen Dr. Kossoff for several years and is an awesome doctor with a great reputation in the community. I gave only 3 stars due to the lack of communication with his office and office staff. You call and never get anyone to answer. After an office visit, by appointment, they were to contact another doctor to get the OK for my spouse's colonoscopy. They stated they would contact the other doctor and it would only take about 5 days. A week later called back to other doctor and they said they never received anything from Gastro Health. Gastro Health did not follow up. I called back a several months later, finally getting someone to answer my call, and they miraculously received the form from my doctor THAT day while my spouse was on the phone with Gastro Health.. And they still have to submit form to get clearance. Expecting a call back from Gastro health, which never happened. Called back and left messages. The first time the office ever called me back from original appointment in October is in January. 3 MONTHS. It was a MESSAGE to schedule the colonoscopy. Tried to call but NO ANSWER, still don't have an appointment. I had a colonoscopy, 3 years ago and was to have another in 2 years. They told me they would call to set up an appointment. NO CALL. Can't get a hold of anyone. This is after I was told I had to get an appendectomy after my colonoscopy 3 years ago. Office staff needs to get straightened out and be held accountable. read more

If you are looking for a Gastroenterologist I have THE PERSON for you! I have been seeing Dr. David Kossoff for over 25 years now. He has ALWAYS been there for me whenever I needed him. I am 71 years old with some family history of cancer. I have had e few surgeries done by over the years and have NEVER had any issues with his ability, not only as a competent surgeon, but as a caring, compassionate and competent human being. He just performed a colonoscopy on me last month and I was somewhat nervous due to my age. Well, there was NOTHING to be nervous about everything from the pre-visits with his PA, the actual operation. to the post office visits. It ALL went smoothly and as planned. I can not say enough good things about this man. He is a real professional that knows his trade and keeps up with the ever changing technology. Dr. Kossoff is by far the best gastroenterologist in the Frederick area - and maybe the entire State of Maryland. He has the awards in his office to prove it! I've been a patient of Dr. Kossoff for over 7 years, while residing in different locations that are at minimum 50 miles away from his Frederick, MD office. However, Dr. Kossoff's professionalism, attention to detail and care, along with his affability has made me want to keep Dr. Kossoff as my GI doctor for my Crohn's Disease without hesitation, no matter my zip code. Case in point, a couple years ago Dr. Kossoff suggested that I have a small-bowel resection to remove the diseased portion of my small/large intestine that was damaged from my Crohn's, in order to prevent a future blockage. Dr. Kossoff's insight and recommendation was truly a blessing - since my appendix was removed during the surgery, and a biopsy revealed a small (cancerous) carcinoid tumor within my appendix. If it weren't for Dr. Kossoff's proactive and attentive care for his patients, I am not very certain I would be here today to write this review. I have no doubt Dr. Kossoff provides the same exceptional treatment and care for all of his patients. Going to the doctor, particularly a specialist, usually means trouble so it's odd to say, but, my visits to Dr. Kossoff's office have always been very enjoyable! I started feeling ill last year and my PCP wasn't able to ascertain the cause of the discomfort after several months, so eventually she referred me to Dr. Kossoff. He is a man of action! He instantly dove right in sending me for tests and in a matter of weeks was able to figure out what was causing the issue. He has always been very friendly and empathetic and never made me feel like "well maybe it's in your head" or "are you sure that's how you're feeling?" which I seem to read a lot when it comes to GIs. He also takes the extra time to explain the science behind what you're feeling, which I really appreciate! He gives his patients intellectual credit and never talks down and is never ever dismissive. He really cares, and REALLY knows his stuff! His front desk staff is wonderful -- always accommodating, friendly, and patient. Once, the day before my surgery consultation, I was in pain, so I called the office to see if they had any tips or tricks to get me through to my appointment. Dr. Kossoff wasn't in the office that day so I got off of the phone ready to just grit my teeth and push through. Well, guess what? Within ten minutes they had not only called me back, but they had called my favorite pharmacy with a prescription. I'm only 25 years old. Sometimes going to the doctor without a parent present still feels like a surreal experience... but Dr. Kossoff is welcoming, friendly, knowledgable and consistently making sure that I have everything I need to feel informed, confident, and healthy! I recently saw Dr. Kossoff for a follow up visit. His bedside manner shows great concern and caring about my health and my understanding of it. He has always been happy to take the time to be sure I understand what's happening to my body and why I need to follow direction. He explains the risks of certain behaviors and easily recommends when I should explore other options with my general practitioner. I have been impressed by his gentle spirit and his way of explaining test results and his findings since I first met him 17 years ago. I have been to see Dr. Kossoff twice in the last year. He is nothing short of amazing. He went above and beyond to make sure I received excellent treatment. His dedication to his patients is something you don't always see. He will take the time from his busy day to call and see how you are. He stayed late to see me on a Friday the first time I met him. Not only is he fantastic with his patients, he helped diagnose a serious problem I was having with gallstones. He made calls to doctors at Medstar and set up the appointments I needed. I've been a patient of Dr. Kossoff for many years now, having first visited him with issues that were a result of gastro difficulties, and a surgical procedure that was collapsing. He examined, tested and scoped me with the eventual analysis that I would need a repair to the surgery from some years before, however nobody in our area was skilled in that respect. I received a phone call from Dr. K some time later and he informed me that a specialist was available to whom he was going to refer me. After examinations and discussions I underwent the new surgery which was quite extensive, and no longer have any of the issues that I had struggled with for years. I'm grateful to Dr. K for his knowledge, patience and concern that kept him from forgetting my case and ultimately providing me with the possibility of improving my life. After being seriously ill for several days, Dr. Kossoff's office was able to schedule an appointment within a day. Because of the seriousness of my illness Dr. Kossoff scheduled me for an endoscopy the very next day. After spending the next morning with my heart doctor (five hours of testing), to okay the endoscopy, Dr. Kossoff was able to perform the procedure this same day, although very late in the day. After the procedure, he quickly made an accurate diagnosis, and provided a solution to a problem I had been experiencing for several years. I feel better than I have ever felt in the past two years. Myself and my husband have been seeing Dr. Kossoff for well over 8 years now. He treats us like family. I have also felt comfortable calling the office for any reason and have never had a problem with a call back and or an office visit right away. Recently we were out of state on vacation and my husband had and emergency surgery for an appendicitis. While there we learned he was going to need additional surgery and on our arrival home I contacted Dr. Kossoff's office. He was in touch with me within 24 hours. Mind you, this was after hours he contacted me. At that point, within a few hours he had the surgeon lined up along with other doctors phone numbers and names that were needed, and everyone was on board by the next day to get the ball rolling to care for my husband. At this time he is still in close contact with all doctors involved. I know that he will be there for us through this journey. He is a gem and we would highly and have recommended him to our family and friends throughout the years. read more

Dr. Kossoff is a terrible doctor. Do not see him. He tried to ruin my credit rating and say that I did not pay a bill that I never owed. This credit rating damage continued for seven years. Try to find another gastroenterologist in Frederick. This doctor should be your last resort. read more
