We contracted Gates GC to remove and replace shingles on our house and garage, promptly received a very competitive bid, met with Bruce, and signed a contract. Very professional and courteous, we were told the job would be done in a week. The following Monday, his foreman, Henry, and his crew of 4 showed up bright and early, met with me under foreboding skies and the threat of rain. I was told they were doing the garage first, so as not to expose my house to any moisture. As they were completing the garage, the rain began, but they never broke stride, just finished up, cleaned up, and said they would be back on Tuesday. Morning came, they were peeling shingles by 8 a.m. and began replacing shortly after. I was very impressed by the crew's attitude and work ethic, seeing how it was quite warm (hot) and humid, they only stopped for scheduled breaks and lunch, by 3 p.m. they were picking up and cleaning up. One member of the crew pretty much concentrated on clean up for most of the day and myself being retired, I had the time to observe their efficiency and dedication to doing a good job, for me, the customer and for the reputation of their company. I have since searched for debris (nails, etc.) and have found a total of 3 nails from 20+ squares. Being in commercial construction for 40+ years, I have no problem with 3 nails out of thousands removed. I would highly recommend Bruce, and Henry's crew to do any roofing project, and trust their integrity to do a job as well, or better than their competitors at a competitive price. I had a very positive result from working with Gates, the contractors used were experienced professionals and the work done as good as new if not better. Our screened in deck had screen replaced that looks better than new. In all, our roof was replaced, siding (3 sides) and screen on porch. Bruce Gates was very communicative, always easy to reach and better at answering his phone than I am answering mine. Bruce has a ton of experience and it shows. I also know that he negotiated a settlement with our insurance company and stood by that even though it was short of expectation. There is good reason to hire a general contractor, I saw that first hand. read more

Had Kaufman install a rubber roof on our home and new flashings. It was and has been nothing but a…read morenightmare. Huge gaps left where they laid heavy beads of caulking. Some flashings were installed incorrectly resulting in water intrusion. The seams on the rubber were not laid to shed water they were stacked and the rubber was cut short across the entire roof. The drip edge was installed directly against the facia which has resulted in the facia now rotting. When I asked about all of this the owner came out and said as a homeowner it's your responsibility to get on the roof every year and remove and replace caulking. NEVER EVER AGAIN will they get a penny from me. Be very cautious when dealing with this company.

I not only appreciated Scott's professionalism, but also his honesty. I'm sure he would have loved to put an entirely new roof on my home, but it wasn't needed and he was able to accurately assess the situation and didn't rip me off.
