----- Concise Review - AMAZING look on the brackets for a wall shelf!!! ----- Longer Review Our daughter wanted to hand a shelf on her wall, a long piece of wood to be supported by two brackets underneath and she discovered the Chesterfield Antique Mall, and we visited. There are many many people who sell antiques there, each one with a store / shop - their own space. We wandered down the ramp to the lower level and found John's shop... with amazing pieces of Walnut, Cherry, Hickory and other pieces of amazing wood. John cuts the wood from trees, and most pieces have the edge / bark on them (clean / safe for inside). John calls is "live wood," and e dries it in a kiln, making it sold and dry and unlikely to every warp. John also sells brackets for hanging the wooden shelves on the wall. We happened to meet Collin, who gave me a few tips... thankfully. Soon after we got some urethane and applied four coats over the following couple weeks. We also had the brackets powdercoated at Gateway Powdercoating. Gateway was a big help. We called first to understand what they do and how powder coating works - they charge the metal, which makes the paint, which has the opposite charge, stick to it. And they guided us to their location, which is just a bit west of the I-70 Bryan Road exit, on the north side of I-70. When we got there, the team helped our daughter pick the right color... given the many colors Gateway has that was no small feat. In the end she picked a dark shade of brown, which attaches to the metal with many dimples, which make for a wonderful effect. They can powder coat most any piece of metal, from car parts like exhausts, engine parts and wheels to patio furniture and more. Gateway recently sandblasted and powder coated our vintage Meadowcraft wrought iron patio table and six swivel rocker chairs. The finish was in VERY rough shape, but the restored product is absolutely beautiful! It is actually better than new! This great American quality wrought iron is no longer made. I had a set of BMW wheels powder coated here last year. They were looked great and were ready in 3 days. Last month I dropped another set of BMW wheels, and was told they would be ready in one week. Well, they took 3 weeks and they don't look as good as the first set. There is orange peel all over on my piano black powder coating. I asked the owner about the orange peel and he went on some rant about BMW and Mercedes car paint having a lot of orange peel. I wonder if he knows the difference between powder coating and car paint. I requested a discount due to the delay in delivery and his response was "we can't give discounts to everybody due to the delays, we are busy right now so it takes what it takes". So in summary, in less than a year the work quality has gone downhill and the customer service by Nathan the owner sucks. Will not spend a dime there ever again!!! read more

Just had a intake manifold ceramic coated. Was told 175 over the phone but was 250 when i walked in the door. They said 2 week turn around. Try 3 and a half. Paid cash and they didnt have 50 dollars change , was short 5 dollar's. Would not take 5 dollars off but wanted to give me 5 dollars store credit. Do not reccomend this place, very unprofessional!! read more

I would recommend looking elsewhere for your powder coating needs. They do decent work if you're willing to put up with long turnaround times, arrogance, and shitty customer service. Once they have your money, the customer service stops. Look around..there's cheaper and equivalent work out there. read more

I have used Gateway Powdercoating for several projects now over the last couple of years and so has my brother. They have always done top-notch work and cared about the finished product. Always done in a reasonable time-frame in my experience. Prices seem very good most of the time but a time or two have been more than expected. To be fair though, I don't know what kind of labor different pieces might involve and I trust that they do. I have some items there as I am writing this review. They have been GREAT!!! read more

I have been to a lot of shops over the years and these guys are pretty darn good and have very fast turn around times. I have had quite a few ATV parts powdered by these guys and there work is second to none. I have also started taking all of my ceramic coating work to them as well. If I could give them no stars I would.....Save yourself the hassel and don't get ripped off. When you think you had something done at a reputable company and find out your wrong. It is a horrible feeling and that is what happened to me, don't let it happen to you. THIS IS MY STORY: I originally discovered them on Facebook and looked at all of their pictures, which were amazing. I took my wheels to them and tires since they told me over the phone for an extra fee they would get my tires mounted and balanced once the wheels were finished. These were not a normal set of wheels and also required the outer lip to be repolished. It took two weeks longer that what they originally anticipated and when I came to pick them up they didn't look as well as I expected. The powder coating looked ok, the polishing looked horrible, and their masking skills very questionable since edges were rough where it was masked off. I questioned them about it and they said that it was a difficult process and this was the best they could do. I thought well maybe I am being to picky and needed to accept it. The car, the wheels were going on was being restored so I put the wheels in the bed of my truck that sits in the garage and is never driven. About 9 months to a year later and the car was finally ready for the wheels. I took the wheels from the truck bed to put them on the car and upon removing them from the truck I noticed wheel weighs in the bed. I could not determine which weights came off which wheels since only some fell off. So at the point I had to go get them all re-balanced. The tech at the shop put the wheels on the balancer and the first wheel was off balance, shocker. The tech asked if he should use some stick on weights with a few hammer on weights if needed on the back side of the wheels since the stick on's didn't seem to work the first time, so I agreed.... The first wheel went well, the second went bad quick. The first spin to see if it was off balance and one of the original stick on weights came loose and tore the clear coat from the wheel and was only hanging on by the clear coat. I told the tech to continue and complete the balancing of these wheels. He did and he noticed other spots on the wheels where the clear was bubbled up and lifting. I was very aggravated at this point since the wheels have never been mounted on the car or seen the light of day since powder coating. The tech at the shop said whoever refinished these did a poor job and should redo them. After that I decided to take them to a few wheel repair places for their opinions. Both shops thought the wheels could have turned out way better even with them being a more challenging set of wheels. Also, both shops said that the clear coat on the powder coating should never bubble or peel off a wheel unless they were not prepped correctly or had defective products. Since everyone recommended that I contact Gateway to see if they would correct their wrongs. I did and GW accepted them with open arms that Saturday morning when I dropped them off. They even said they would start on them the following Monday. I was then contacted by Gateway powder coating the following Friday and they said only one wheel was covered under their guarantee. I questioned them about this and they said that because I had hammer on wheel weights installed, they would only redo the one wheel. I told them all of the wheels had some type of clear coat issue/flaw and that if they only redid one wheel, it probably wouldn't match? GW said well as soon as the clear came loose and had problems I should have called them immediately so they could take care of it. I asked well the clear isn't peel or bubbling where they installed the wheel weights. GW responded well that's all we can do, you would have to pay for the other 3 wheels to be refinished. I then asked GW how do they repair the bad spots and he said they strip it to bare metal and redo the entire wheel. I then asked what are the wheel weights hurting if you have to strip it to bare metal anyway... There was an odd 15 second pause in the conversation and he said again the wheel weights are the problem. I got angry and said a few choice words and told them I will pick them up tomorrow on Saturday. I arrived Saturday morning and asked them what wheel they planned to redo. The guy looked at them and said I believe it was this one. I laughed and said WHAT!!!, but it has a wheel weight hammered on it just like the other 3 wheels. He just looked at me with a dumb look on his face.....lol. I got angry again and said some more choice words and told them they ran a shitty business. He told me to take the wheels and leave.... They do not stand behind their work and give sad excuses when they are called out on poor craftsmanship. "They write checks their A$$ can't cash" and should not have taken the job if they couldn't do it, what a joke. After dealing with them, I wouldn't even recommend them to redo cheap patio furniture. I just recently bought a 45 year old hood from a salvage yard here in Missouri that was in excellent condition, no rust, dents or body filler. I thought I would take it to get it blasted to remove the old paint and have it primed to save me the work. Wrong decision!!! The body shop that I just had repair my floorboards asked who blasted the hood. I told them and they said well you know they ruined the hood don't you? I said what do you mean? They said they used the wrong material to bead blast it and warped the entire hood. They said run your hand over the hood. There was nothing but waves in it. He told me if you look closely you can see the inner structure from under the hood making impressions on top of the hood. He's right, all the under hood structure is visible on the outside of the hood. He said they got the hood to hot and warped it. The hood is absolutely ruined!!! I paid $100 from the salvage yard and $200 to have them bead blast it and another $125 to have my body shop fill in some holes on the front of the hood where Ford letters were cause my old hood doesn't have them. The body shop told me it will cost at least $500 to straighten the hood out with skim coating it and priming it. I drove the truck out to gateway and the owner looked at it. He proceeded to tell me that they know exactly what material to use to bead blast and how hot the metal can get. I told him, well this hood was perfectly straight when it came in and now it's totally warped after you bead blasted it!!! There's not one part of the hood that's not warped!!! He said we've never messed anything up or had any problems. I said really? This body shop told me you totally ruined a trunk lid that they had you do and also an entire structure of a car that you ruined so bad that your insurance company had to take care of it!!! He got real defensive and said he has never had any claims. He asked me, what body shop is this? The one off 94? Why would he ask this if he's never had any complaints? So he tells me, well I have lawyers we will settle it out of court!!! So after he said he wasn't taking care of the problem we started arguing and I called him every name in the book!!! Then he tells me, come on I'm right here!!! Motioning for me to hit him!!! What kind of an owner of a business does this to customers? What a piece of shit!!! I told him if you want to hit me come on I'll have your entire business!!! He put his hands up and shrugged his shoulders as to say who cares. This guy is a total asshole!!!
