At 10:15am, I scheduled an appt online for earliest available 11:15am. Arrived 10:45am, was given a tablet to complete registration. I helped my wife fill everything out because her head hurt so much. Woman at check-in not sympathetic or empathetic. Finally shown a room at 12:10pm, doctor appeared 12:45pm (hour and half after scheduled appt). Doctor WAS empathetic, listened carefully, was capable and professional. So despite the disappointing upfront experience and amount of time involved, we were able to receive competent care in the end.

When I questioned the billing I was told that it was written in the consent to treat form that I signed although no one mentioned that it contained such information. When I asked for a copy of the consent to treat, they said I would have to go back to the facility but the billing department could not provide it to me. Under IL law you are to be informed of costs before treatment and obviously this is their way of side stepping actually telling you the cost. I will not be returning to this facility for urgent care.

Two touch-screen check-in stations booted up around 9:00 a.m. I was invited into one of two exam rooms for registration by an assistant, who took my vitals, and copies of my personal ID and insurance card. Then I was excused for about ten minutes before being invited into another room for my REAL exam. Quick check by nurse practitioner, antibiotic prescribed, payment processed. It's a little different to do the "paperwork" in the exam room, but there's no time spent at a receptionist station before or after. Prescription was sent to the pharmacy ten-feet away (my choice), and I was in and out with antibiotic in about one hour. This was actually my third "take care" visit - the first two years ago, and the second for a flu shot last month. If you have a minor ailment or injury when your regular doctor's office is closed, or just want a quick-stop flu shot, "take care" is a great alternative.

They gave me a GI cocktail. Well, it has phenobarbital mixed with lidocaine and Pepcid. lol I guess they thought it was aNxIetY since I am female. I have a pretty high calcium score. And it is on the LAD. Thankful for a good pcp who sent me for stress testing and labs etc. We will handle it. I know not to ever take family to this hospital for anything other than a hang nail.

When I called back at 12:40 p.m., I was met with hostility from Amy, Tiara, and Passion--who said they were RNs. They refused to let me speak to management or the Nurse Practitioner. When I simply asked for the address to confirm I had the right location, I was threatened with the police. I left that call in tears, feeling humiliated, dismissed, and unsafe. I believe I was denied care because of my disability and a pending malpractice case against Mercy. The interaction triggered my depression, anxiety, and PTSD so badly that I had to seek emergency behavioral health treatment. No patient should ever be treated like this when reaching out for care.

I question the legality of practicing medicine in this manner, ie, who is supervising the clinic if no doctors are on site? Are nurse practitioners in Illinois licensed to provide care and prescribe without direct supervision? Furthermore, while the nurse practitioner I spoke with was as kind as can be, their medical advice wasn't helpful. For an unknown respiratory issue I described, they prescribed over-the-counter meds including a sleep aid (although they knew I already had an Rx sleep aid from my own doctor), and a common motion sickness remedy (although they knew I already had an Rx anti-nausea med from my own doctor). They also prescribed a cough suppressant that was just plain ineffective. I don't doubt their intentions, but when I was able to see my own doctor days later, he was frustrated that they didn't prescribe any antibiotics (not knowing whether my infection was viral or bacterial), and at the OTC choices I was given. Moreover, he immediately ordered a chest x-ray, which found that I had already progressed to acute pneumonia. I would return to this urgent care only if--like the day I went there--I had no other choice. And that would be silly, considering there's a reputable hospital right across the street.
