My interest was instantly piqued because I had been searching for art opportunities that didn't seem so basic for my young artist. Every other option (except one that pushed for full day when I wanted a half day opportunity) I had found offered for her age group before KidzArt had "cute themes" and was basically just drawing or painting on paper, nothing seemed special or specialized for that matter - I couldn't even find a class that offered basic sculpture with clay for my kindergarten kid! When I saw the course/camp offerings here, I was actually excited that this might be something that would work for my kid! There are TONS of different options for camps (both during the summer and for track out) for ages starting at 6 - the Town of Cary classes that seemed like they may draw in my child weren't available until she is 8 years old (the ones offered for her age group just seemed too basic for her abilities). I was thrilled to see that just after the studio opened and on my kiddo's track out there was an illustration and cartooning camp offered - perfect! So far, she has created a lot of great art: some in a sort of "wine an design" but for kids (without wine of course) style following the instruction of the teacher, and some free art of her own cartooning and illustration. There are many materials for the kids to experiment with here and an opportunity for free art time too. The owner and instructors are very knowledgeable about art and also work very well with the children of varying ages - they seem to genuinely care about the kids and get to know them. We also signed up for some classes here outside of the track out camp she is taking. The variety is great and my kiddo seems to find inspiration from the lessons as well as from the other kids in the class. I really wanted an opportunity for her to experiment with more materials and to learn some techniques she could apply to her own art - this studio provides exactly that! She's already learned some strategies with watercolor and shadow that have popped up in her other work (just like how after reading a specific book she will mimic the art style in her new art), and has requested time to work with clay which she hasn't ever really had a desire to do until now. She is really enjoying her experience at camp and definitely seems to be inspired by it! The studio itself is clean, open, and bright. The materials are well maintained, and it is overall a great place for young artists to grow! I'm excited to find more classes to continue to inspire my kiddo - she is also very excited to check out other themes here too!

I was lucky enough to be invited to the grand opening for the Cary, NC location. Upon arrival, we…read morewere instructed to get our aprons, to help ourselves to food and beverages in the adjoining room, then to find our table spot (it was marked with our names). There was 1 main instructor, with several others there to assist any of us who needed anything from a question on the painting to providing us with paint. The instructor used a microphone (awesome!) and it made it so easy to hear and understand what she had to say. They also had cameras on the painting the instructor was painting so the guests could view the screen easily from where they were seated. Because it was a grand opening, there were several prizes they gave out. I happened to be recipient of the Date night package which was very exciting. Everyone was sent home with a thank you gift bag which had dated M&M's with and logo M&M's, a wine glass with the company logo, and a paintbrush shaped pen. This also included a $15 gift card towards any next painting. I am super excited this place is so close to me, I love to go as a way to relax and have fun. A+ treatment, and nobody was invisible. As a added bonus, on the last Friday of the month you can meet the artist(s) to hear first-hand about the work you were just admiring, or to hear about his or her inspirations. Periodically, CGA holds weeklong auctions in which you bid on a piece and stop back during the week to see if your bid won. It's a good way to add pieces into your collection at an affordable price. If you're the type who wants to hear about the art, the people working can talk in detail about the artists technique, use of color, and previous works. At least that's been my experience the couple of times I've stopped by. It's less crowded than a museum(!)

I found the Cocoon Gallery on Yelp, which far exceeded my expectations. First, the historic town of Apwx, NC, is picturesque and charming. My only regret in stopping here is that we arrived after some of the other wonderful shops had closed for the evening. We will definitely be back! The Cocoon Gallery has a terrific selection of pottery, handbags, and jewelry, and the woman who helped us was friendly and welcoming. After debating over several gorgeous and affordable pieces, I ended up purchasing a long pair of dangling earrings made of brass and sterling. They are so prettt and lightweight, I cannot wait to wear them. I highly recommend that you visit the Cocoon Gallery, whether it's a special gift you need or a small indulgence for yourself. If one doesn't mind the West Building (although new, it felt old to me), the different galleries containing historical art pieces (new and old, and very old) organized by continents are educational and surprisingly full of variety. The East Building (original one) hosts both permanent and limited-time collections. I've enjoyed a car exhibit, but my favorite limited-time exhibit featured Academy Award winner Ruth E. Carter's costumes for the movies "Black Panther", "Selma", "Amistad", and others. Her showcase exhibit was well worth the price of admission. A huge museum park provides miles of trails and places for picnics. If one plans accordingly, a series of trails connects all the way from the museum to downtown Raleigh! MISC Opened in 1956. Has pieces that originate from about 5,000 years ago (but thankfully it doesn't take that long to go through the museum). The museum is accessibility-friendly. A museum store and café are onsite. Tours are available. Outdoor concerts are on hiatus at the time of this review for "facility improvements." Be sure to check the museum's website for updates.
