I have purchased several books from Blue Apple, and they are always in excellent condition at a reasonable price. I especially love the wide selection of books on theology/spirituality, a major interest of mine. The staff at Blue Apple are incredibly welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable about books and all its products offered. Every time I walk in, I am greeted with a smile and a "How are you? Can I help you find anything?" I have seen all kinds of people, readers or not, enjoy the ambiance of the store because it's just so cozy and welcoming. It's a gem of the Madison community! The price of food was inline with what you got, which is an upgrade geeky themed bar food (pizza, pretzels bites, potato bites, chili dogs, barbque something, cinnamon rolls...). They have increased their parking spaces by a lot since the last time we were there, which was really nice because that seemed to be a major issue. They have multiple rooms you can rent for gaming with your group that are themed. Along with a large room with multiple tables, and a really large room set up with tables for terrain TTRPG. Only negative I still have, but is not a major issue, is that they do not offer diet soda either fountain or bottled. They only have Coke Zero, which is way too sweet tasting for me. I am sure this is because those who are there often probably don't drink Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper. However, did notice that they did have more surgar free options this time, which was nice. Though this time I didn't have much interaction with the staff, what I did, they were friendly and personable as I have come to expect. They never made us feel like we were in the way or a bother, and didn't make us feel rushed to clear out when our event was over. I have loved watching this place continue to grow over the last year or so.

The Deep (at their previous location) was my weekly comic shop when I lived in Huntsville 20 years…read moreago (groan). We were in town for a concert and to meet up with some friends and it happened to be "Free Comic Book Day" and we had time to kill, so we stopped at some local shops including the Deep at their new location. They had all the goodies for giveaways-- who can beat 3 free comics plus another 5 freebies if you make a purchase? The companies (Marvel, DC, and the indies) made a good show of rolling out freebies to give readers a sample of current offerings and hopefully they roped in some new readers. It was nice to see The Deep still has a swath of back issues, I was able to cross several titles off my never-ending search list as I poked around the store. They still have a wall of new releases, a ton of games and figures, etc. It was also very cool to see such a wide diversity of readership, people of all ages and backgrounds grabbing up new releases and picking up pull lists. Not sure if ownership has changed in the past decade or more or if it's more to do with the changing vibes of the subculture itself becoming more mainstream and accessible, but it just felt overall more "welcoming" and open than ever before so that anyone can find the book they're looking for and get into comics. Very cool. Plenty of parking. Appreciated the additional 20% off of purchases for the comic book day, and back issue prices are fair--more expensive than some, far cheaper than others.
