I like Booklegger. It's been here at least 40 years and I'm sure has changed owners several times. For purchasing used books, I find it's very well organized and you get great deals, half off the "list" price. It's a fun place to browse. Back when my elderly Mom was still reading, I was able to purchase her several paperbacks that were easy for her to handle with her arthritis at great prices, while picking some golf tip books for me! Back in college around the corner at UAH I frequented Booklegger for auxiliary art books for my college classes. And yeah, you get to resell your personal books for a store credit, again, at 50% of the "list" [aka sticker] price. At one point they had a punch card type program. I don't think I participated in that program. They do have a good variety especially of paperbacks. Of course, since they buy from patrons, the stock changes, which keeps it interesting you never know what kind of fabulous coffee table book you will find at a deep discount, or something obscure you've been on the lookout for. I've never had any problems with the staff here, and always found them to be helpful. I'm not looking for a best friend when I'm paying for books. This store and Friends of the Library at the Huntsville Public Library are my two favorite places to purchase used books. A pro tip for Booklegger, they don't have bags for your purchases so I recommend bringing your own tote bag in. Vive le livre! read more

Amber (the owner) is very friendly and helpful! The store is very organized and you can shop by category of your favorite genre. There's something for everyone here. Once you've selected some books, you can read them and then bring them back it to use for credit on your next round of reading material! 10/10 would recommend. went in to sell some great hard backs- well over $300.00 retail price -coffee table art books - owner was not only rude but low balled me with $15.00 offer! I have been a patron of this "store " since 1986- I have watched it go down with the rise of the internet- but the new owner is just too much - not I nor anyone I know has to put up with this attitude- and the cheapness , well that speaks for itself. really like to shop and sell local - but this "small" business owner pushed me to the internet- I wont be back . smelly , moldy store - skip it! read more

Quite possibly the best used book store in Huntsville. I have been frequenting Booklegger for years. While they seldom get any of the really rare Science Fiction books, there is always something new to read. I highly recommend this store. Be sure and check out the "new arrivals", very often there will be a treasure there which hasn't been grabbed yet. I picked up a hard to find Marion Zimmer Bradley book (which by coincidence is the exact book I went there for) from new arrivals, henceforth (warning; that is a $2 word) I will start in that section in the future. read more

Rob and Jay work hard to sustain one of the better used bookstores in the South. It is a pleasure to have a used bookstore in Huntsville because business costs are high compared to the low profit margin on used books (after the costs of rent, utilities, workers, licenses, insurance, costs of buying used books, etc.). Please note the credit offered for trading in paperback books has a time - limit, but for readers I feel certain customers can read about that credit time - limit because it is printed clearly on the credit slip. When a customer brings in used hardcover books to sell please consider what some may call "cherry picking" of the better books is really based on whether or not the Booklegger already has certain selections in duplicates, in storage, may have spent their limit for that day or week buying back stock of books, or too many of the same genre or subject matter already on the sales shelves. For those who love to read going to the Booklegger is a treat! You will always find a treasured book. read more

Booklegger is past its prime. A book with a nearly broken spine is not worth half its cover price and with competitively priced options at stores like 2nd & Charles and McKays to contend with, it is time to evolve beyond the limited credit/fixed half price sales. That era died with Amazon and Ebay but the final nails have been driven into the coffin of this business model by better prices on used books available within easy driving distance. Booklegger has two choices... evolve or close. read more

Without a doubt the best used bookstore in Huntsville. Great selection of books, and a New Arrivals section that almost always has something you can't live without. Some of the science books are outdated though. Don't expect the shiny coffee-table titles in a Barnes & Noble, but any subject, Booklegger's got it. I'll never do business with them again. A time limit...on a credit? Seriously? It's bad enough he cherry picks and is rude but to have a time limit on credits for only his paperback book selection is ridiculous. He gave me some pathetic credit for hardbacks, then limits your credit value to his paperbacks and then puts a time limit on it, which they never mention till you come back. He's a crook. Try ebay or Amazon instead of this rude clown and his rude staff. NEVER again. read more
