In my short time with this firm, I realized the lack of experience they claim to have with fed comp due to the fact that my attorney needed to do research for something they do on a daily basis or just another tactic to add on to the invoice in my opinion. No transparency with how much they charge for reading your emails. When I complained about the invoices and asked for details. Left a message and sent email to lady in charge of billing, didn't hear back from her until she received the email letting their firm know I removed them from my case. An entire retainer billed on two phone calls and probably 8 or so emails. Zero resolution or help and me doing all the leg work on multiple tasks. The Principle partner introduced me and my case to an associate and that was fine. I spoke with the associate as she was busy driving, so we talked about the process. I order updated documents from the court, emailed them to her to review and advise me (she couldn't get the documents because they didn't subscribe to Tarrant County Court Records). That should have been my first "red flag." The next day she called and confirmed what I already knew, but I don't have my Juris Doctor! I later got a invoice for $850....but "I did the work!" Her invoice show our phone conversation time and 1.6 hours of research and review of a 6 page court document that I sent to her (a 15-20 minute read)! I understand she has to show that she can generate income, but Lawyer's are one's that take advantage of people. They know that you rely on their knowledge, so they gauge you with their hourly fees. I expressed my concern with the Principle partner and he asked to discuss it, scheduled a call with me, but never called. Now I know their intent! and why she felt comfortable doing what she did! My experience with this law firm was not what I expected and I would not recommend. As a matter of fact, I have other legal issues that I would have considered her handling but not now! I had no intention of dragging out the divorce as long as the marriage. Texas family law is as frustrating as the power grid, so I needed someone who could get the job done and represent me. I wanted a lawyer who was a woman, intelligent, direct, and not too emotional. I did not need hugs, I needed a divorce. I interviewed several attorneys to represent me. Some were nice but weak, some were rage-filled and vengeful towards the spouse, and others made me wonder what some law schools are doing with their curriculum. Alex was nothing like other lawyers. From retainer to the "thanks for the memories" exit call, the process lasted about 5 months. The legal portion took less than four months from filing to final decree with the notarization stamp. I have friends who are still working through the process after years of issues.
