We had been traveling for almost two weeks and had been eating nothing but deep fried junk food in Amsterdam's city center for like two days. My body was craving something with actual nutritional value, and the Asian food scene was so strong here that we thought finding a sushi place seemed like a good idea. Indeed it was. Geisha is a really nice restaurant - dark and swanky, it was definitely a great place to have a meal. I also really dug the bar, which was super swanky and glass. This restaurant has a fairly limited sushi menu, but what we had was very good and fresh. But the dim sum menu was really the star of the show. We got iberico pork suimai which was REALLY good. And then the shrimp dumplings were also really delicious. The beef dumplings were also good but were pretty greasy and our least favorite. In addition I ordered the miso soup, which was possibly the best miso I have ever had. It was clearly made to order and came with a pool of lovely mushrooms - two kinds. It was absolutely delicious. Our waitress, who was the manager or owner was OK. She didn't write anything down and then had to come back to our table to verify our order. I also was somewhat disappointed that they charge you for tap water here (we were charged per little bottle they brought to the table). But other than that, it was truly a very nice meal. read more

We came here because of the Michelin star nomination and it was close to our hotel. Unfortunately, although the sushi was fresh and the atmosphere seemed busy and fun, we had a HORRIBLE experience with the service. It took nearly two hours to have a normal meal that should have been no different than any other night out. This was not a tasting menu or coursed out.... it just took THAT long. The waitress seemed overwhelmed, so I felt for her, but she got several things wrong and refused to write our orders down. I was in the service industry for years, so I get it, but if your table is ordering 4 different small plates, plus ~10 different nigiri orders, you should write it down. Get over your ego and ensure it comes out correctly. Our individual encounter here most definitely overshadowed the potential experience we could have had. A dimly lite trendy, yet romantic escape into the brilliance of Asian cuisine. The experience is like an Asian/Japanese tapas type serving, so order a variety and share. The hits were the Five Spiced Fried Chicken, (which looks like a fried chicken salad with a kick dressing), Udon Noodles and the Chinese Broccoli. The Steamed Cod is cool until the special oyster sauce is added. The ambiance is cool (in spite of the loud table near us). Tastefully decorated. Even has a cool lounge on the lower level. Best meal during our trip in Amsterdam!!! Geisha Restaurant & Lounge is an upscale and modern Asian fusion restaurant in the Centrum neighborhood. The dimly lit restaurant, decorated in sleek furniture and red and black decor has a very trendy, romantic vibe. I didn't realize how large the restaurant was until I stopped by the bathroom and saw that the restaurant consists of three floors. The menu includes tapa style meals, dim sum and sushi. We order the 5 Spice Chicken, Pork Dumplings, Smoked Duck, and several sushi rolls. Everything was so fresh and delicious; I can't pick a favorite dish because everything was perfect! If you cannot decide what to order there is a chef's choice menu ranging from 3 courses at $35 per person to 5 courses at $55 per person. Our waitress was absolutely amazing and so polite, but we had a slight hiccup getting the check due to cultural misunderstandings. We didn't ask for the check because we didn't want to rush our waitress and seem rude, but in Amsterdam they will not bring you the check until you ask for it because it is considered rude to rush diners. Finally we broke down and asked for the check and our waitress explained the custom to us. Oops! Highly recommend dining at Geisha. The food and service is fantastic! read more

I was very disappointed. The sushi no fresh and the service was poor. To add insult to injury, they would not serve us tap water with our meal (35C outside) even though we spent €73 on food. They said we had to buy bottled water or drinks. A very greedy, poor service restaurant. read more

Geisha is an upscale Japanese, Chinese fusion restaurant near the Amsterdam public library in Centruum. We made it here for restaurant week and had the 4 course menu for around 35 euros. The interior is great: dark and modern with lots of seating. There are some comfy spots in the back with wrap around benches and pillows. Service is typical Asian - attentive and polite - a nice change from Dutch service. The food is also excellent, with relatively common dishes taken up a notch with better ingredients, sauces and preparation than typical Asian restaurants. They served various types of dim sum, sushi, gyoza, etc. For the main was cod steamed in banana leaves, some tasty fried rice and kung pao chicken. The price is a bit steep which is why I can't give 5 stars - around 100 euro bill with drinks. I can only imagine the price when it's not restaurant week. read more

We ate at 5pm so the place is pretty empty. The host was very hospitable, the atmosphere is pretty warm and beautiful. For the food, we were offered shrimp crackers for free, pretty nice. The sushi is amazing! Super delicious. The siu mai is yummy as well, as well as the crispy soft-shelled crabs - super succulent. Overall, pretty impressive. Showed up at 10:15 on a Saturday night; was craving sushi so I was glad they sat us (they close at 11). I'm so glad we came! The restaurant has a sexy vibe and is very pretty. I had a mai tai and was not expecting it to be such a specially crafted cocktail. It was delicious (and strong!). We started with the shrimp dim sum, which was fried but really amazing! We also had the rainbow roll, dragon roll, blue fin sashimi and yellowtail sashimi. This was a ton of food! They do not skimp on the fish in their rolls! OMG. After two hours sitting at a so-called champagne table for dinner at this wannabe hip restaurant, we'd only been served an appetizer and a cocktail. With our drinks and plates empty, we had been completely forgotten (for over an hour). I walked up to the front to solicit service. I was told that they didn't want to bother us because "we were talking." Actually, that's not the case, given that they never walked by our table. But we were talking! And we were hungry too! (We're going out now for a proper meal!) So if you're interested in talking with your significant other without food or drink, this is your place. By the way, when we finally received attention at the table, I asked to close out our tab. The so-called server literally laughed in our face. This place is absurd and an embarrassment to serious restaurants. And I forgot to mention the Dim Sum appetizers were third-rate imposters. But the cocktail was tasty! read more

The quality of the food and service here is definitely at least a 4+ but what makes me give it a 3 is the portion size and the lack of value. This restaurant is extremely overpriced. I understand the concept of Asian 'small plates' but more often than not, it's a way to completely rip off the customer. I'm sorry but a few pieces of bok choy for 8 EUR. That's highway robbery. They recommend 3 dishes per person to share but I think you need more like 5 plus a side carb to get full. Although Geisha has a nice atmosphere, the food was by far the WORST food I've ever had and rather expensive too. The service is great but the food not so much. The red curry I tried tasted nothing like curry nor had the consistency of curry; it tasted like tomato soup and was absolutely horrible. Yuck! The Kalbi beef short ribs were bland and didn't even resemble the flavor of Kalbi beef short ribs. The fried rice was also bland with no taste at all and even was a little watery. If you want Asian food or even Asian Fusion food, do not come to this place...save your money and time. My husband and I immediately went to get some fast food after we left this place. We were looking for small plates for a late dinner near our hotel after a long day of travel into Amsterdam that morning. After a slow start with the hostess confused since we walked in vs had a reservation, our waiter quickly jumped to action and got us sitting and made recommendations for us on our dinner selections. We kept it simple sharing a few appetizers and a main chicken dish with a side a veggies...delicious and perfect amount! Absolutely Spectacular!!!!! Close to the Amsterdam Centraal train station, this restaurant is the epitome of class. A very large restaurant, Geisha was bustling with people even at 5pm! At first our waiter did not speak English and had trouble communicating with us, but was saved by his colleague! The vegetable roll was beautiful crafted, cucumber on the inside and avocado beautifully layed on top of the seaweed! The miso soup, edamame and kimchi steak was beyond amazing! Went for dinner with 4 colleagues around 9:30 on a Tuesday night. We all loved it. The service was friendly and attentive- everything we ordered arrived promptly. We shared lots of small plates, and they were all amazing. The standouts were the seafood salad with mango, the dim sung dumplings, Peking duck with pancakes, and the sea bass. We asked the server to choose a selection a deserts which was a good decision - it was a platter with small tastes of ice cream, cakes, mousse - all were great.
