Compared to LVH, this is the best care you could receive in Scranton. 5 stars in Lackawanna county, probably 3 if compared nationally. They took care of my mom which is more than I can say about Lehigh Valley Hospital in Dickson city. They completely dismissed and discounted my mother's complaints and sent her home with a broken bone in her spine. Fortunately, the doctor's here took a fresh look and found this fracture and a couple other problems that had been ignored by her other primary care doctors. The ER Dr. White was amazing and had wonderful bedside manner. He actually seemed to care, how incredible is that?! Nothing like getting a full explanation on the current care and future plan for helping my mother get out of the hospital and continue on in her golden years. This is an honest review about the Geisinger Olive Street location in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This facility does not do their due diligence with their patients. I had to go to this office because I got a shitty healthcare plan that I didn't know was shitty ,and it sent me to this facility. I got a bill from them for $300 for a Pap smear and a couple of tests. I'm sorry, but that is not what a woman should have to pay just to find out if she's healthy. Not only did I get a bill from them stating that I owe them $300 but that my insurance claim was still pending and I may be on the hook for $1674. Again almost $2000 for a Pap smear? In a facility that looked like a free clinic. This hospital has shown me in real time the effects of a failing healthcare system. You can tell the hospital staff does not care about their patients. This whole experience has put me in such a state of panic not just for myself, but for other women who may be going through this, but 10 times worse. I hope this review doesn't land on blind eyes, but I'm sure it will. I have a feeling they're prone to bad reviews.good luck to anybody who has to go to any of the Geisinger hospitals. This place is disgusting. I had to have a catheter put it because of a medical emergency. They kept me waiting for hours while my bladder was about to explode. Then 4 days later my catheter clogged. I went to the er at midnight. Once again waited for hours while my bladder was about to explode. Then they took it out and wouldn't let me stay in the back. They put me back in the waiting room er and told me to use the bathroom there. So I did. I tried to anyway. When I walked in my nose was hit with the smell of death. I knew this smell . C diff. I was DISGUSTED to see streaks of shit all over the floor, toilet and wall of the only stall in the male bathroom. Clearly someone half ast cleaned in and left it. I had to stand in front of the urinal for 10 to 15 mins at a time as my urine slowly started working again. I pleaded to just go back into one of the actual er bathrooms in the back but I wasn't allowed. Finally after about 2 more hours I was brought back. Treated over the course of 6 more hours. I finally went home at about 8 am. And then 4 days later, guess what? CDIFF infection!!! It literally almost killed me. I can't imagine how many people your disgusting hospital infected. Im just getting over it now and that was almost 2 months ago. Dont ever come to this place if you want to live. read more

ER refused to look at or treat a large bleeding open wound on thumb. ER staff refused to provide first aid and help redress bleeding wound after waiting in the waiting room for 2 hours. This Hospital was recommended for me to have a implant to prevent my heart from shutting down. I was transferred there from Wayne Memorial and ended up catching Covid after being transferred there. The nurse ( Paula ) on the 8 th floor was a very special person and took great care of me while I was there. I was sharing a room with another patient who had some health problems as well. They drew blood from me so many times, I eventually felt faint. Once they told me I had Covid, I wanted to leave the facility. It took me over 10 hours to properly check out from the Hospital and while I was waiting, nurses still wanted to draw blood from me. I told them I was waiting to be discharged and they still wanted to draw blood from me. This was a very bad experience for me and I will never go back there again. James Molner read more

I came here May 5th 2025. Because I wasn't feeling well. And I had the worst service that could possibly ever be handed to somebody besides with their sister hospital that I experienced the same type of service on April 29 but this hospital did an X-ray. On my chest because I was having a hard time breathing and doctor morgan and comes and tells me. That my X-ray looks wonderful.There was nothing wrong with me but I wasn't convinced because I still wasn't feeling good.So what did I do I went to my primary doctor the next day he looked over my x ray and I have very bad bronchitis so i'm not sure if these doctors know what they are doing at that hospital or they just don't care. But if you want to play around with somebody else's house, so be it, but you're not playing around with mine and the other thing is what throws me off when I was there, it's how they take blood work in the waiting room like that is discussion and very unsanitary. And you guys need to learn to get better communication when you are taking patients to different departments or areas of the hospital. I would never. Go back to this hospital. And I definitely don't recommend it. Just like I told the Doctor I just wanna leave at this point after 5 hours. Already been here without no type of real service. Had an Ear/Nose/Throat appt in Scranton. Entrance only said "Imaging," so I tried a nearby building. woman at desk on computer would not look up. Called and asked for directions, no help. Tried the "Imaging" door, went in, no signage, went back to car in frustration, tried calling again. Went back to Imaging entrance, nice receptionist said, "You had it right the first time." I was too late for my appointment. She asked if I wanted to re-schedule--five months from now. "Nah, just cancel it, I'm moving out of state." Absolutely useless. read more

My story is long but let's just start with the pictures. Darren Jacobs not only did a bad job with a surgery I wasn't a candidate for, using the wrong disc size. As you can see in the pics. The disc does not fit. He used 6 month old MRIs and overlooked, or ignored MS indicators (as did two or three other Geisinger doctors). He never did new MRIs prior to surgery nor did he check the other levels of my spine. There is now a lesion in my spinal cord. In Geisinger's attempts to somehow attribute everything happening to me as anything but their fault, they've been testing me for the past several months. While I'm clear of AIDS, hepatitis, syphilis, the very rare inherited Wilson's disease, Lyme disease, and have normal ranges in my other bloodwork, I still have no diagnosis or treatment plan. Total scumbags. I pay $1,800 a month for insurance and this unfortunately was a waste of that coverage. Remember this, someone graduates last from every medical school. Someone graduates last from the worst medical school. No Harvard docs here (that I've met). Jacobs and Strom give medicine a bad name. read more

Had spine surgery scheduled in Dec 2021 and they decided to stop all surgeries to deal with Covid patients. Omicron variant is just a cold. All about the money the govt is paying them. Not a good community hospital. Each time I call for an update they could care less and seem happy to not have to deal with its scheduling surgeries. Best hospital ever. They saved my fathers life on Sunday. I wish I know who was on flight on Sunday night because they did amazing the icu did amazing respiratory therapists were amazing. My only complaint is some (sister) on the icu unit was very rude I mean extremely rude yelling at us and just rude yelling at my 17 year old stopping her from seeing her grandpa who was on a ventilator. She was so scared about losing her grandpa and here this woman comes just being miserable. Other than that woman and her unprofessionalism especially for working in icu... this hospital should be in news papers and on TV for having an amazing trauma team. .Sceduled an appointment with a spine and neck specialist after a referral from my family doctor. I had remembered this hospital as being very unclean from my mom being there 2 years ago but My head pain was getiing worse so I gave it a try. I had a 10am appt. with a doctor Pugsley. The woman that checked me in was very nice and friendly.The woman that came to get me was ill trained and seemed like she hated her job. She stopped at the desk to talk to another employee and proceeded to just walk away. I asked the person at the desk if I was supposed to follow her as she gave no indication of that. She turned her back and said "folow me" which I did. I got on the scale and did the blood pressure thing and followed her to an exam room. She asked the same questions they all ask which I answered and then asked her to check my patient portal as all of my blood work info and test info was there at which time she rudely replied " I need you to answer the questions I ask." She was also very critical of my family doctor for not providing better information in her referral. Right then I should have bolted out but I needed treatment for my headaches. She left and at about 10:15 a Nurse came in and said " the doctor is upstairs and may not be able to see you today but I can get you started in case he gets done" The old switcheroo game that is played now with nurse practitioners. WHAT?. Get me started? I was not there for a head cold or a stomache ache. I needed a DOCTOR for treatment. That was all I needed to hear. I got up and left as she tried to justify my visit and wanted me to check out. NO WAY. I came to see a doctor and never saw one so you are not going to bill me for a $250.00 specialist visit. In summary, there is no communication between or among the various entities of this group. I had x-rays,cat scan, and saw a neurosurgeon and an eye doctor and got blood work done twice and it never was communicated. STAY AWAY and find a good local doctor. read more

Worst medical services ever. i have been personally screwed by a doctor and they were charging me to get it all fixed. for an umbellical hernia the doctor took undissolvable stiches inside me that of course caused an infection . the doctor had told me he only took 1 stitch to hold the belly button in place. The doctor wanted to fix me in the clinic lol for stitch taken inside my body. And then rescheduled me to be operated again under anaesthesi. didn't know what he was doing. Nicholas A Lerovante nurse didnt get a name cause she was so unprofessional she never even stated her name let alone if she was a nurse or not. Also she very rudely riped my girlfriends personal information outa her hands without asking and started rifling through it looking to see she was the person she was looking for. I'm not going to lie , i was skeptical about this place from the comments and was so close to leaving and just taking the 2hr drive back to Philly then to get get butchered... thankfully they called me in rite before I did any of those idiotic things , not once were the staff all from top to bottom start to finish amazing , they all treated me like a human u like I can say for other hospitals I've been too, I came in for severe tooth abscess that required an oral surgeon to put me asleep and resolve the issue , I honestly could not be happier I'm even writing this review from the hospital bed a few hrs after the operation... originally they said it would talk 2-3days but I "recovered" so well I could be released, when in reality they are the ones that all did amazing work... being a business man myself out here in Scranton , I've realized 90% of the negative reviews out here in this town are from the miserable people that feel they are owed something or somehow feel entitled and regardless of what you do or how well the service is , they will complain and cry just to get some attention... believe me when I tell you this , "THE PEOPLE AT THIS HOSPITAL CARE" but you have to also remember they are not your slave and you shouldn't sit and talk down to them or take out your problem or issues on them because are the one that came to them not the other way around read more

My Aunt was a patient at Geisinger CMC from 2/15 to 2/23 on the Trauma unit for a broken femur. 90% of employees from Environmental Services, Dietary, Doctors, who came into her room did not state who they were and why they were there. Their ID badges were turned around so you could not see their photo or name. 90% of the nursing staff and Physical Therapy did state who they were and most were pleasant. Since my Aunt lives alone in her own house Geisinger wanted to send her home and not to rehab. We told employees including the surgeons/physicians that she had steps to get into her house and a 10" step to go from her family room to the kitchen and bathroom. We informed them she needed to go to a Rehabilitation facility on how to get up steps, getting in an out of a car and how to take a shower. My Aunt was so upset thinking she had to go home. Her insurance which is Geisinger insurance denied her to go to Allied Rehab. I tried calling Case Management and could not leave a message. I called the Patient Advocate office and left a voicemail and no one returned my call. Luckily her surgeon went to her room yesterday and she told him how upset she was that they were going to send her home alone. He actually listened to her and said since you live alone you have to go to rehab. What a relief for my Aunt and our family. I am very disappointed with how she was treated like she did not matter. It is bad enough that you break your femur from a fall, had a rod put in and the hospital wants to send you home alone to fend for yourself. read more

It is very organized and the staff are absolutely wonderful. I spent 5 days recovering there and the doctors, nurses and nurses assistants couldn't do enough for me. I know there are many negative reviews about Geisinger, but my recent visit on Christmas day was incredible! I had woken up with severe abdominal pain, both me and my mom (i'm only 17) were convinced it was a ruptured appendix. She rushed me into the Geisinger emergency room, where we waited about a half hour to be taken back. I was seen right away by my first nurse Sara, whom we didn't like very much. she kept dropping things on the floor and using them on me AFTER they were dropped. i mean, it was only 4:30 in the morning so i guess she was tired. Then, at 7:00am, my IV was finished and blood was backing up my tubing, i called for sara. She came into the room huffing and puffing, saying she was on her way out the door and i was inconveniencing her on a national holiday. However, the nurse i received after sara was absoloutely incredible. Her name was Kaysee. she talked to me about what shows i liked and who my celebrity crush was, and made me feel so much more at home than sara did. And then there's Dr. Bernett. I don't have enough words to say what a great doctor he was. He made me feel so comfortable and explained everything they'd found on my CAT scan. Turns out i had a severe intestinal infection and a UTI. If you're planing on going anywhere, please come to geisinger! I have recently moved to Clarks Summit, PA from Villanova, PA which is 20 minutes from Philly. I had a feeling this hospital visit was not going to be great knowing how lucky I have been to live near a bigger city with top notch medical facilities. My podiatrist sent me to CMC to get a full work up done on my ankle/foot due to the pain level surrounding my injury and how it seemed to not relent after 10 days of rest. Before I even met a PA or a doctor they came to take me to X-ray. This puzzled me so I asked that lady transporting me if I could talk to a nurse or a doctor because I hadn't even had an exam or had been told anything at this point. I had no idea what was going on. At this time the transport lady stormed out of my room as she said " FINE, WHATEVER, I'LL GET YOUR NURSE." Needless to say she told my nurse I refused the x-ray which I didn't. All I did was ask to be told what is going on. If x-raying is the first step in bones issue protocol just tell me that. I wasn't asking for my pillow to be fluffed. I was not wrong to inquire about something happening to my body and something I may have to pay for essentially in the end. The nurses were great. They smiled and were sensitive while answering all my questions. I was tearful, nervous and in a lot of pain. They were a huge plus in a moderately shitty situation. The techs were also really nice and my second transport named Gary was awesome. Then met the treating PA. She was also nice and took time to really listen to me and my concerns. I told her what my doctor had told me to let her know. She ordered an x-ray and I requested an MRI. I was then told there was only ONE MRI in the whole hospital and that my MRI is a routine MRI. She explained the issues with getting an emergency MRIs at GCMC. She told me they book outpatient and inpatient MRIs all day for that MRI machine. I understood but if my doctor thought this was a"routine" MRI he would ordered it and never would have sent me to the ER. I guess my leg has to be falling off to qualify for an emergency MRI at GCMC. Also, X-rays cannot reveal tendon tares, tendinitis or smaller fractures, COME ON!! She listened and did pull strings for me to get the MRI that same day. I was surprised but she was a good one. I am thankful. She also had my foot and ankle x-rayed. In conclusion, there is no way I should have to argue and advocate for an emergency MRI. It was not the PA's fault that was GCMC's issue. There is so much that could be wrong that cannot be seen in the x-ray. I have NEVER had an issue like that in Philadelphia. Yes, I get it, Philadelphia is more innovative but emergency medicine is everywhere especially t GCMC being the main hospital in this area. It was crazy to me. The MRI facility there was very nice. It had lit up scenery on the ceiling like you were looking up into the trees on a sunny day. The let you choose music to listen to and there was also light up scenery on the walls. I had never seen anything like this. It was incredible. The staff was also super nice. I may have to return to GCMC, I know that. If you have to go be prepared to fight for what you need when it comes to imaging. read more

I broke my arm they sent me home telling me it was a sprain after I sat in the hospital for 2 hours. the person who discharged me was NOT a doctor. A WEEK later the real doctor called me back and told me I had in fact broke my arm, and asked me to come back in. They then charged me $40 for that second visit.
