Just a quintessential Venetian pleasure, to sit on the water and enjoy a decedent treat. Professional older waiter, did not hesitate to hint at "leaving a tip"..good for him, you gotta be in it to win it !! The gelato was average, but the service was terrible. We specifically asked to eat in but were served in paper cups while other customers received glass dishes. We sat at one of the many empty tables, only to be told we had to leave because our order was "takeaway." Despite explaining we had asked to eat in when ordering, the waiter demanded we leave. In retrospect, they probably gave us the paper cups rather than glass so they could kick us out once we sat down. If you do not want my money, I do not want to give it to you. Horrible service and okay gelato. You can get better elsewhere. My review is consistent with other reviews here, where the service treated us horribly. They ignored us while serving other customers who came in after us for 10 minutes, Forced us to get take out after they couldn't serve us (there were 15 open tables) and yelled at us to move when we sat down. I kindly told the waiter that we would like to be served after we sat down (since it is a rule) he was rude and kicked us out. The other Americans also noticed this unfair treatment too and other Italians as well, and backed us up during our conversation. The gelato was not the best either. We are very kind and peaceful people, and I barely write any negative comments on small businesses. This place, unfortunately, is the exception and I would NOT recommend anyone to come to this place. Apparently this is the oldest gelateria in Venice. It was rich and creamy and very well priced. Highly recommend. It does get very busy and the space is small. I wouldn't necessarily suggest getting sandwiches but definitely a spot for coffee and gelato. read more

This was recommended as "pretty good still" (or something like that) by a local. It was fine. It's near the touristy area of St. Mark's Square. I visited in the evening. The gelato didn't taste as fresh and was perhaps a little too cold. It wasn't frostbitten, but I could somehow taste the coldness and I suspect it impacted the flavor. It's a really good option for gelato. A great compliment is the large indoor seating area and wonderful ocean front. You should take your gelato and explore. At night it's especially pretty and there's no wait for ordering. You'll also find a basic café bar inside. As for the gelato, the chocolates are all very good but not great. The strawberry is especially great given the pieces in it and the creamy texture. At €3 for two scoops in this area you're getting a deal you'll enjoy. read more

Came here after seeing great reviews on both Yelp and Foursquare! I was very impressed with the selection of ice cream bars that they stored in the fridge, as it was more than just the ice cream in a cone, which I had gotten relatively sick of after about 3 weeks in Europe of a gelato cone (or two) per day... I got the pistachio ice cream bar, with a white-chocolate shell, sprinkled with dark chocolate flakes on the outside. The outside shell coating was thick and crunchy, and the inside pistachio bar was creamy and not at all icy. The outer white chocolate shell was a bit sweet (as you'd expect of white chocolate I guess...) but the more savory tint of the pistachio definitely made up for it! The texture was very much like your Magnum ice cream bar, although I think the shell was a bit thicker and harder (and less so crunchy). Overall it wasn't super mind blowing, but it was really satisfying nonetheless and the shop deserves mad props for creativity on the ice cream front! Not to mention this place has a gorgeous view of the waterfront, especially during sunset =) read more

Stopped here for a pit stop during our tour of Venice, as the guide explained the place near the cafe had great sunset pics, and I took the opportunity to visit the loo, which had no seat cover (hence one less star). Both of my companions got a cappuccino, which they termed okay, and I wasn't going to get anything, but a family from Atlanta who were also on the tour raved about the hot chocolate, and I was sold when my my brother said he saw the bloke making it using a real block of chocolate and whipped cream. The Vaporetto stop is nearby and the Nico's is actually on the water which makes for a nice place to eat your treat. We actually took ours and strolled some of the smaller paths to the Accademmia bridge. Tip- order gelato at the window facing the water. Go inside for other orders. Great gelato for a very good price!! It's right on the waterfront in a popular area, which almost all of Venice has taken as an excuse to overcharge for mediocre food, but not this place! This is still the real deal, and hopefully will stay that way. Small cones were only €1,50 keeping with the cheaper end of Italian gelato. While I lived in Venice, I would visit here very frequently. I would usually get gelato to go, as other reviewers have echoed, it costs 2-3 times the price to sit down, also, the 80s called, they don't want their tired decor back! There plenty of places to sit along the waterfront to enjoy the view. The two things that remained consistent on each return visit was the quality of the ice cream and the rudeness of the staff. So if you're looking for service with a smile, you're not going to find it here. On one occasion the counter assistant complained about my paying with a note to the other staff, thinking I didn't have a grasp of Italian. Try the amaretto ice cream!
