My family was looking for a sweet treat at the end of the day. Gelateria Vernazza had a massive line but the gelato tubs are piled high and vibrant colors - our first sign that it was a trap. However, we decided to take a chance when the line disappeared, plus we were desperate. First of all, very expensive for gelato, even more than prices at renowned spots - and tiny scoops! Workers very stingy, even with giving a couple extra spoons. Also, no samples, our first time experiencing that at a shop. Flavors tasted fine, which was this shop's only saving grace. Ultimately, because there aren't many options in Vernazza, it was an okay gelato spot, but the overall experience left a sour taste. Hopefully the servers we encountered were an outlier! read more

We love Italian Ice Cream. On this years Road Trip through Italy we've had many. But the one from this Gelateria is the one we loved the most. Great balance - not too heavy, not too light. Creamy, full of flavours. For a big tourist attraction like Vernazza fair priced. Staff was friendly. Really loved the Ice Cream here. The very best one being the wonderful Ricotta. We went to this gelateria twice in Vernazza, and even went to their Spezia location. That's how much we loved their gelato. Two flavors for 2.50 euros, three flavors for 3.50 euros, and four flavors for 5 euros. The Spezia location is cheaper, with basically one euro per flavor. They offer a free wafer chip. Service isn't their strong suit, but the quality of the gelato more than makes up for it. Given that most shops and restaurants were closed or had limited hours for the season, we were also appreciative that this place remained open from 9/10AM to past 5PM. read more

My friend and i have been sampling gelato since we arrived Italy, and have been eating our way thru 4 cities so far (Milan, Vince, Florence and Vernazza). We think this shop has superb pistachio favor! The shop is small, and the lady clerk spoke just enough English. She's not the friendliest but, hey, We are here for the gelato! I ordered the lemons and pistachio. While the lemon was satisfying (apparently this area is well known for its lemons and olive oil). we really enjoyed the pistachio one. It's so nutty and savory, with the clean finish. Yum!! Since we tried gelato in different shops in different days. We get to compare the lemon favor. Their selection of flavors is superb and includes everything from traditional Italian varieties, to regional specialities like "Crema 5 Terre" (sweet wine-flavored cream topped with chocolate, illustrating the region's long history as a producer of white wine), to seasonal flavors (be sure to check out the chalkboard outside). I went with the above Crema and their Ricotta & Fig. The latter was the better of the two: it was filled with large, substantial chunks of fresh figs and swirly fig goodness. I recommend getting it, or whatever flavor they currently have using seasonal fruits. Consistency is good, and colors are dull, signifying natural ingredients, real fruit, and less sugar. Vegan gelato! Yay! Gelateria Vernazza is open later than our gelateria of choice, Gelato Amore Mio, so when a craving hit, we decided to give them a try. It's very busy but the staff is very nice and keeps things moving. I asked what gelato was dairy-free, and I was delighted that they had pistachio. I ordered a small scoop in a cup and we headed outside. The pistachio was good, though it didn't blow my mind. It was creamy and had a wonderful texture, but it was light on flavor. Sam, who became a lemon gelato connoisseur on this trip, would say it wasn't the best lemon gelato he had in Italy but it hit the spot. This was my favorite gelateria in Cinque Terre and it's excellent (although in the interests of full disclosure, I thought the gelato was even better in Rome). I had the dark chocolate, which was super rich and dark, and a local flavor called crema Cinque Terre, which is crema (egg custard) gelato with chocolate and dessert wine. The portions here are incredibly generous and the gelato comes with a large cookie wafer. This is the place to go for gelato in Cinque Terre. Easy to find-Very clean- looks like all natural flavors-colors- no artificial. No line- walked in and had a selection of about 12 flavors or so.. I wanted to try the one that was caramel but no tastes are allowed- either buy it and like it or..
