Gelat-one or Gelat-ohhnee? That was my question as I asked for a free taste of some of the flavors on display. I don't speak Italian so I had to ask. Whatever gelato experience I had before was courtesy of Fiorgelato, at one time the most recognizable Italian ice cream chain in the Metro.
That was years ago, before premium ice cream shops became a craze here in the big city -- it wasn't just gelato, there's even fried ice cream (remember Cold Rock Ice Creamery?). But as many gelato shops have come and gone, this quaint Italian ice cream shop beside Bubba Gump's in Greenbelt 3 is going strong and I'm lucky for that.
You see, I'm not a gelato connoisseur, but I sure love Gelatone's hazelnut. It's got smooth texture, a sign that it's freshly made. The sweetness is just right. In fact, the gelato goes perfectly well with coffee. Yes, Gelatone also serves coffee and meals like panini and pasta. And you have to try the Affugato (hazelnut gelato with coffee espresso) to see what I mean about the winning taste of coffee mixed with gelato.
