We brought our dog to the dog park here last week and to spend some time exploring the park. It's a lovely neighborhood area with plenty of parking, sports fields, playground, dog park, library, and there was even a food truck in the parking area. The dog park was really nice with fresh cut grass and fencing so the dogs can be let off of their leash. They had potty bag holders available but I always bring my own so I'm not sure if they were stocked or not. There were only a few other people in the dog area, but there were lots of people walking their dogs. There was also a soccer game going on just adjacent to the dog run and the park was very lively and full of people. I personally did not appreciate that the sports teams had placed their goals on the only sidewalk/ walkway through the area so that anyone walking had to go on to the grass to get around them. I feel like the park has plenty of room and that wasn't necessary. Other than that, we really enjoyed our visit here. I also checked out the library while my husband checked out the food truck with our dog. There were clean bathrooms inside and an adorable children's book area. I definitely recommend a stop to this park if you're in the area. read more

Gellert park is much bigger than it seems, probably because of all the tall trees surrounding it. This park consists of soccer fields, enclosed dog park/area, multiple basketball courts, 3 tennis courts but one is now dedicated to pickleball. This park also has a running track, picnic area, and their own parking lot, a community center for rent & a children's playground. But my favorite thing about this park is the library! There is so much to do at this park and it is never empty. The crowd varies from morning, afternoon & evening. I noticed that the younger crowd are usually at this park in the evening. Mornings are quiet but filled with many people walking or jogging. Afternoons get really busy, especially the children's playground. read more

Outer space and spaceship themed park! This small but mighty park is packed with fun for young kids, toddler to teen. The park is newly renovated and well-maintained. Your kids can learn about our planets and climb up a unique climbing tree. There's even a little sandbox! There are restrooms conveniently located adjacent to the playground. Within the playground space there's a picnic table. Lots of parking available. I highly recommend this park. The only recommendation I would give to the park is to install metal poles facing the parking lot to prevent cars from accidentally driving into the playground fence. It would give additional security to the play area. read more

I really like coming to Gellert park with my dog. The track around the field is nice to walk at with the shade. It's a great place to people watch. On the weekends, there are always soccer games going on so it's very rambunctious and loud. There are always tons of kids on the playground. It's a lively place. Sometimes I've even seen ice cream trucks stop by. Unfortunately often lots of off leash dogs on the field so watch out. Some improvements could be dog waste bags, more trash cans, and more trash pick up. Because of all the parties and events happening here plus the wind, trash gets everywhere and it can be unpleasant. I've also seen a grown man urinating on the fence. Granted he was probably drunk but it was crazy to see that in broad daylight in front of children..... read more

Well Maintained park, clean and neat. Well-loved, busy place. You can bring a picnic, reserve space for a group, talk a walk on the surrounding 2 lane track. Bring a game, frisbee, badminton, racquets - even badminton would be fun when it's sunny. Bring a lunch or a picnic- there are tables, bleachers and small areas for spectators when there is a game in- progress. Good place to relax, talk a walk, walk a dog... or a cat- but the cat I saw on the leash looked like she was plotting mayhem against her owner (ears back etc.) Kids love to run here... a happy place! Just make sure they stay out of a game that's in-progress and / the parking lot!! Mowing one of the fields when we came. Note: one field was closed (signs posted) due to wet conditions It's February - please note the signs and stay OFF closed fields! 3 fields were available. read more

Great park! Super spacious and there is something for everyone. Soccer field, baseball field, basketball courts, tennis courts and running track. There's a big playground for the kiddos and Mr. Softee stops by almost everyday around 2-3pm for some yummy ice cream. Plenty of parking in the lot, clean bathrooms and a nice little library. This is a big park with lots of activities available. Basketball and tennis courts, a handball area, baseball diamond, and soccer field. There's also a clubhouse and, if you'd rather flex brain muscles instead of leg or arm muscles, the Daly City library is there, too. Parking is available on site and streetside. It does get busy on the weekends, so check the crowd meter thingie here on Yelp. It's super helpful. Bathrooms: Yes, modern and clean. Maintenance: Actively maintained park. Saw workers cleaning the bathrooms, picking weeds and there was evidence of new trees be planted in the area. Clearly the community values this resource. Activity facilities: Something for everyone. Great for individual exercise as well as team sports. Even modern playground for the kids. Jogging trial goes around the entire park. Utilization: I was impressed with the vast number of people everywhere: Jogging, racquet sports, playing in the playground, even people preparing food for either a picnic or sale not sure which. However, because the park is so large, it never felt crowded at all. Views: The views from this hilltop park are spectacular ... mountain views and ancient trees surround the park wonderfully. Great park but unfortunately people take advantage of areas for the public too far. I took my son to use the restroom and a lady had her two huge unleashed dog drinking out of a public HUMAN fountain. Completely understand dog get thirsty but there are programs for kids, special needs, and a public library here as well. So I would think some may use that fountain for themselves. PLEASE if you have a dog bring a bowl and use the water, don't let your dog just drink out of it. read more

Parking: Super convenient. Large lot next to the playground, tennis courts and bball courts. Crowd: busy. The courts were all full and the playground had kids and adults everywhere. There are cool elements to the park like colorful decor, interactive parts (bells, domes, spaceship station, wheels to turn etc.) and a lot to explore. Safety: I saw a couple of crazies walk by during my stay. They stayed in the parking lot but walked along the gate to the playground. I also noticed a lot of hands-off parents sitting at benches (drinking bagged alcohol) while their kids ran around which meant keeping a closer eye on my 15 month old so he wouldn't be trampled or pushed around by the bigger kids. Rest: There are some central picnic tables (no shade) and some benches around the park. I didn't note where else there were tables as we stayed mostly in one area. Overall: A decent park but I'd rather wait till my son is older. I would also prefer to come here with my husband vs. alone due to the crowds and the non-parents that I noticed pause/pass by the playground. read more

If you are okay with off leash parks, there's always huge groups of dogs unleashed on the soccer field. While I love dogs, I respect leash laws as the safest option for dogs and humans in a public park. I didn't like this park for this reason. If you want to bring your dog here, don't. Unless you love risking a dog mauling. Even for kids playing in the field...I wouldn't want my kids playing amongst so many unleashed dogs. Every time I was here during my visit I had unleashed dogs following my dogs and me around the trail. A lot of people let their dogs off leash and play soccer. A lot of people are drinking Starbucks and talking about the warrior game. Pretty much the most annoying types of dog owners. The ones who let their dogs wander off and poop everywhere and not pick it up. Or let their dogs follow you around for 10-15 mins at a time and not even notice they're gone. Gellert park don't be cheap and just build a dog park extension somewhere close by and post some leash law signs with that tax $$$. I give one star for clean updated bathrooms. Everything else was entirely GHETTO read more

I might describe this as less of a park and more of a community center, with an assortment of recreational activities for every age group to enjoy. We wanted to go somewhere where we could walk both the dog and the baby and Gellert Park just happens to be down the road from us. There is plenty of parking in the lot and for our walk, there is a "trail" that goes around the entire park. In the park itself, they have a couple of baseball diamonds for people to play a game. There's also basketball hoops, a wall to practice your tennis swerves, and an actual playground for the kids. The Daly City library is also located within this same area. While there was a fair amount of people playing a b-ball game or walking on their own, it was super easy to social distance so we felt safe walking about sans masks. read more

We like this park. There's the library we go to first then we head to the playground. I'm glad the playground was renovated during the pandemic. More fun stuff that my kids love. We also love the soccer field. On weekdays, you can run around the field and do fun stuff which my kids love. Then you see people walk around the field for more movement. If you play tennis or basketball which is popular here, you can do that too. There's also picnic tables and the hall you can reserve. With all that, parking can be challenging here on weekends. read more

As an SF/Bay Area native, there's a plethora of parks and libraries you can visit but Gellert park has to be on top of my list. Parking- there's alot of parking and even if the parking lot is full,you can seek parking outside on the street. The neighborhood is safe with so no need to worry about car getting broken into. Park- amenities include basketball courts, playground, tennis courts, and baseball and soccer field. Theres also an outdoor track (approximately 1.5 miles all around). Library- the library is next door and has events for children. Clubhouse- you can host events at their club house. Overall rating is 5 stars. Its safe and well taken care of park with lots of parking. read more

Gellert park was redone a few months ago and my son loves going to the playground. There is a swing where two kids can sit and face each other and I think that is pretty neat. My son comes to Gellert 3 times a week for soccer practice and soccer games. They have their own soccer field with synthetic grass which is pretty nice. The playground also has a little area that toddlers can play. There are basketball courts as well as tennis courts and the library is also in the same parking lot. read more

I used to coach Little League Baseball over ten years ago; it was the best and worst two years of my life. I signed-up as a volunteer coach for my son's team because they had no one to coach and manage every team. Begrudgingly, I took on the task and was rewarded with lots of sleepless days (I used to work graveyard), cleaning and keeping inventory of equipment and a couple of parents (one in particular) that made it hell with their unattainable standards and uncompromising ways. I've seen the bad: - Parents that live vicariously through their kids even though these kids have no talent or don't have any interest in the sports at all. - Coaches (parents) who thinks they are in the Major Leagues and take everything too seriously. - Parents with poor to no sportsmanship. - Parents who complain to the League Commissioner after every game and every week. - Backseat coaches who know it all. Yes, it's the parents. But I've also seen the good: - Kids behaving like kids enjoying the game and one another. - Kids learning how to throw and catch a ball. - Kids actually paying attention to your instructions and following through. They even start mimicking and start barking things you said to the team during the game. - Kids learning to love the game. - Parents supporting the kids and one another. You see, the good always outnumber the bad and there are mostly good parents and a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else. Unfortunately, those "bad parents" are the ones that receive the media attention when something bad happens, but the majority of the time these parents are supportive, loving, caring and know what to expect. On the other hand, I didn't what to expect when I signed up as a coach. I do admit that I had delusions of grandeur of winning the championship until our first practice and realized most of these kids never played baseball before. Reality set it and I adjusted my expectations and the only thing that mattered on that point was that kids learned the game and had fun doing it. I also got to witness a set of twins who couldn't even catch a ball or hit the baseball in the beginning gradually improve. By no means are they going to the next level, but seeing them develop and improve was well worth it. Some of these kids ended up going to the same school as my kids and these kids are now grown-up and in college. There are still a couple of kids who I coached and would still call me "Coach" when I run into them. So what does this story have to do with this review? Gellert Park was one of the places we regularly played at and we practiced here every Sunday. The park has three baseball fields, 1 soccer field with artificial turf, playground, picnic area, basketball court, 3 tennis courts and a community room. It's a good park and very well cared for by the city. Every time I am here to walk my dog, I am reminded of those times I was coaching. Even more so when it's baseball season and I see kids practicing on the field. It takes me back to a place in time that I wouldn't mind doing it over again, even having to deal with a few bad apples sprinkled in between. I wouldn't change a thing. read more

We love this park! The kids are fully entertained the whole time, making friends and having fun. People are friendly and almost everytime we come there is an ice cream truck, so don't forget your dollars! The bathrooms are open and they are fairly clean for a park. I have been coming to this park for over 17 years now. I find that your opinion of it will of course vary depending on what facilities you use. As a teenager I used to come here with my friends because it had the only basketball courts we knew of that were lit at night. As a dad, I would hesitate to allow my kids to do the same. I wouldn't think it was safe. But it is pretty nice that the option to play ball past daylight is available. I think the lights stop working at midnight though. Later in my life we came here to use the little playground (before the remodel about 10 years ago). It wasn't the best playground around. Pretty small, but what was great about it was that there were always families around. Sometimes this would be a comforting thing, other times frustrating depending on our interaction with whoever was around. Some things to look out for in this scenario: during baseball season lots of families are present and sometimes children are relatively unattended at the playground while their older siblings are playing. There are people who come to the park to walk their dogs, not all are considerate dog owners cognizant of how their dogs will interact with small children. Still some time later we would come to use the library. It's small, but the children's section is not bad. They set up a nice area where you can come and read with the little ones. Like most libraries it looks like it could use some more funding, but the staff is nice, and the facility is relatively well maintained. Nowadays my visits to this park are related to little league games/practices, birthday party invitations, or using the track for a jog. There is a nice trail that circles the large field at this park, a sign near the playground says the track is about a half mile per lap. During busy times joggers have to contend with possible flying soccer balls, running through makeshift dugouts, and the sweet smoky smell of tender meat cooking on an open flame. Three baseball diamonds are popular thanks to usage by the Daly City little league and Junior Giants as well as Softball leagues. The grass field is relatively well maintained (coming from someone who grew up in SF where such facilities are a rarity). Games are played on Saturdays from about 9 am 'till about 4:30 pm, and some weeknights from 5pm to about 7:30 pm April-June. Also popular are the two huge pits nested between the basketball courts and one of the baseball diamonds. These pits are popular with birthday parties often featuring a jumphouse, and the enticing aroma of meat being cooked on weekends. Regardless of where you are coming from and what the weather is like there, bear in mind this park is situated in a unique corner of the universe that has it's own weather. This park needs a serious makeover! It's looked the same for soo many years! The last thing that's been remodeled here is the field. Looks a lot healthier. They need to do something about the track around the field though - it can get pretty muddy. I grew up with this park so I can't hate on it too much. It's a pretty convenient park - there's a hall and a huge outdoor picnic area to throw parties; a library that's walking distance; baseball and soccer field; and the basketball and tennis courts are popular here. I still love coming here. I just wish it could be more updated!! read more

Review for playground only: If you're looking for a way to help your little ones grow up super fast, this may be it. Rest easy, moms and dads, here's where your toddlers can learn all about smoking, drinking, littering and shoving their way through crowds. From the looks of the surroundings, people use the sandbox as an ashtray, the rest of the playground as a garbage dump, and drink alcohol in front of the public restrooms (my 14 month old was caught making a bee-line for an empty wine bottle sitting in front of the bathroom). The structures are old and wooden (my babe was happily able to gnaw paint right off), it's super crowded and a bit rough too. The two creaky bucket swings are the only nod to the toddler set in terms of safety and lack of obvious down-right nastiness - a perfect spot from which to swing and survey the surrounding horror. read more

Its 1997, a cold and foggy morning, before the whole threat of global warming ruined our foggy mornings and turned it to bright days, you decide to run. upon running up the steps you are greeted with several high school kids smoking joints at the top of the steps, you turn and proceed with the jogging trail. You pass by the empty playground, the smell of tanbark hits you like freshly steamed rice with the side of spam, and you push on. The whooping sound of a tennis or racket ball soon gets louder and louder as you pass by several old ladies looking like Kim Jong ill with fanny packs and visors. Those were the days.... wait a minute, its still the same. Its as if Gellert Park has a time distortion field, keeping the bit of time to sink its teeth into it. This park was a huge disappointment. Consider this review a warning to moms and dads of little ones. Honestly, don't waste your time on this park. To say that Gellert Park is busy is almost an understatement; after 5:30 pm it was more crowded than earlier. The parking lot was full. Call me a snob, but soccer players smoking cigarettes and marijuana next to the playground are not exactly a redeeming feature of this park. The playground for little ones is awful. The equipment is sadly outdated and worn down; there is graffiti all over the kids' boat; the bucket swings creak like they haven't been oiled in years; the sand is filthy and littered; and there was some guy letting his pit bull run freely on the field. Not to mention the wooden equipment on the playground looked like it has been eaten by termites. My son wanted to leave after twenty minutes. It's true: the ice cream van pulls up, and this really, really elderly Chinese couple pass out ice cream ($1.25-$1.50). The ice cream sundae I got was so-so, and it looked really old. I mean, from the '70s. The playground at Gellert Park is just depressing and sad. I cannot recommend it to anyone! read more

5 freaking stars because it's my neighborhood park! I know people are bothered because of kids smoking pot near the courts but I'm not. Just as long as they don't bother us, it's all good. Anyway, I love how this park is close to the library so you can use their bathroom or drink from the water fountain after a good game of basketball or tennis. I also love how they have a "wall" for the ones who are waiting for a tennis court to be vacated. I also like how they have a place where you can have your parties outdoors AND indoors; you just gotta let them know ahead of time. It also has a playground for kids (and adults alike lol) and the ice cream man always stops by sometime in the afternoon! Wheeee! The playground is big and fenced off. Two bucket swings, four big kid swings, two large play structures (one plastic, one wood), and some seesaw/ride structures. The playground isn't new but it's nice enough, if you ignore the tagging everywhere. I'm not a fan of the wood chip landscaping. My kid had fun here though, and it's bigger than other parks in the area. There's a ramada, tennis courts, fields, and what looks like a clubhouse. I like that it's by the library- we made an afternoon of our visit. read more

Try playing a nice game of tennis while those fools playing basketball near the right tennis court distract you and your girlfriends. #3. Crazy old men sit at the benches and seriously play tennis from sunrise to sunset. It's almost impossible to get a tennis court without waiting for atleast 20 minutes. +3 only for two reasons. My forehand is a tad rusty since I haven't really played after high school. The high school students smoking weed & side-kicking near the courts are always so kind to grab the ball and throw it back to me and my friends. Also, there's the infamous ice cream truck that's parked outside the playground. It's like the one and only ice cream truck that exists in Daly City. So whenever we had any family/church events Gellert was typically the best place to go. Huge grills, lots of seating, basketball courts, fenced park for the lil monsters, and a softball/baseball field. SAMOANS and their volleyball though. I Mean: (Whoever did these lines suck [another 4 letter S- word actually]. This line is crooked, that line is jumping wayyy over there..mann..) This park has a parking lot that gets full, as well as street parking that gets really full on nice days. There's a club house and picnic shelters to hold events at (birthday parties, etc.). There's a playground for kids, a softball field, tennis courts, and basketball courts. It seems to be a busy family park. read more

When I visited, there were llots of people and families enjoying the park. It's a hopping place. There was a really nice track, a baseball field, a couple of basketball courts and a row of four or five tennis courts, that appear to have lights. I went to use the backboard, and it's a tall, double sided contraption and very sturdy... I think it's probably used also for soccer practice. The only real downside about it is that the ground is just asphalt, so you don't have a hard/smooth surface like on a tennis court. But it wasn't pitted or that uneven, so the ball kept pretty much in control. And having all of the people around made it feel safe and energetic. I'd probably give this a 3.5 stars if that were available, because the ground surface made things not so ideal, but I'll round up to 4, because of the happy/active environment. (I bet it gets pretty foggy/cold there at times though!) read more

I remember going to this park many times when I was younger for countless parties and the usual Easter-Egg hunt.. The problem I always seemed to face for the outdoor parties was: Bees.. Today, I'm not completely sure now since there hasn't been a party that I know of over there, considering that we're now all grown up, and maybe a park party just doesn't seem to cut it for kids today.. But I do know that if you're looking for a good place to reserve an area for a party, or just play basketball, tennis, soccer, football, baseball, or anything that uses the park's sprawling land, this is the place to go.. oh, And for kids playgrounds (the new incarnation of the playground seems ok and a bit better than the older ones i remember) and a good library.. Had great memories at this park, and glad to see that this tall-tree-lined park isn't going anywhere soon, and that gives it the Nymo's 100% Approval (along with the others mentioned earlier).. read more

I only give 2 stars because of free parking, a playground for the kids, and a basketball court. Downside: it's always CROWDED. Always. Don't people work anymore!? Lol. Even in the early mornings, the tennis court is packed with senior citizens, playground is full, what I'm most bothered about is jogging in peace! The soccer players accidentally hit me one time which startled me and scared the daylights outta me, but luckily they apologized. Everything just seems overly crowded. I prefer a more peaceful setting as well when I'm exercising but it's hard to focus with so many people in the way. Pavement isn't smooth either. You'll pass by the bleachers with a crowd- if there's a baseball game which can be almost disturbing to a workout. In general this isn't the place to workout. Save your time & gas. Go to lake Merced if you have too but don't come here. There's too many DISTRACTIONS at this park. read more

3 stars for the simple fact that its .10 miles away from me. Other than that it's an average park to go to that's right next to the library. There's a track circling around the grassy field. It's a great place for doing some leg work with the stairs that they have there as well. Including in the park to the SOUTH end of it is a playground for kids, some rooftop covered benches to have a little birthday party and about 4 basketball courts along with 4 tennis courts. read more
