    71 degrees today! Big park!

Well Maintained park, clean and neat. Well-loved, busy place. You can bring a picnic, reserve space for a group, talk a walk on the surrounding 2 lane track. Bring a game, frisbee, badminton, racquets - even badminton would be fun when it's sunny. Bring a lunch or a picnic- there are tables, bleachers and small areas for spectators when there is a game in- progress. Good place to relax, talk a walk, walk a dog... or a cat- but the cat I saw on the leash looked like she was plotting mayhem against her owner (ears back etc.) Kids love to run here... a happy place! Just make sure they stay out of a game that's in-progress and / the parking lot!! Mowing one of the fields when we came. Note: one field was closed (signs posted) due to wet conditions It's February - please note the signs and stay OFF closed fields! 3 fields were available.

    Plenty of clean facilities

Bathrooms: Yes, modern and clean. Maintenance: Actively maintained park. Saw workers cleaning the bathrooms, picking weeds and there was evidence of new trees be planted in the area. Clearly the community values this resource. Activity facilities: Something for everyone. Great for individual exercise as well as team sports. Even modern playground for the kids. Jogging trial goes around the entire park. Utilization: I was impressed with the vast number of people everywhere: Jogging, racquet sports, playing in the playground, even people preparing food for either a picnic or sale not sure which. However, because the park is so large, it never felt crowded at all. Views: The views from this hilltop park are spectacular ... mountain views and ancient trees surround the park wonderfully. Highly recommend!

Great park but unfortunately people take advantage of areas for the public too far. I took my son to use the restroom and a lady had her two huge unleashed dog drinking out of a public HUMAN fountain. Completely understand dog get thirsty but there are programs for kids, special needs, and a public library here as well. So I would think some may use that fountain for themselves. PLEASE if you have a dog bring a bowl and use the water, don't let your dog just drink out of it.

The fact that there's not a back part and my child fell through the bench really killed the park experience for me but besides that it's a great park just keep an eye for these benches with little kids!

I used to coach Little League Baseball over ten years ago; it was the best and worst two years of my life. I signed-up as a volunteer coach for my son's team because they had no one to coach and manage every team. Begrudgingly, I took on the task and was rewarded with lots of sleepless days (I used to work graveyard), cleaning and keeping inventory of equipment and a couple of parents (one in particular) that made it hell with their unattainable standards and uncompromising ways. I've seen the bad: - Parents that live vicariously through their kids even though these kids have no talent or don't have any interest in the sports at all. - Coaches (parents) who thinks they are in the Major Leagues and take everything too seriously. - Parents with poor to no sportsmanship. - Parents who complain to the League Commissioner after every game and every week. - Backseat coaches who know it all. Yes, it's the parents. But I've also seen the good: - Kids behaving like kids enjoying the game and one another. - Kids learning how to throw and catch a ball. - Kids actually paying attention to your instructions and following through. They even start mimicking and start barking things you said to the team during the game. - Kids learning to love the game. - Parents supporting the kids and one another. You see, the good always outnumber the bad and there are mostly good parents and a few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else. Unfortunately, those "bad parents" are the ones that receive the media attention when something bad happens, but the majority of the time these parents are supportive, loving, caring and know what to expect. On the other hand, I didn't what to expect when I signed up as a coach. I do admit that I had delusions of grandeur of winning the championship until our first practice and realized most of these kids never played baseball before. Reality set it and I adjusted my expectations and the only thing that mattered on that point was that kids learned the game and had fun doing it. I also got to witness a set of twins who couldn't even catch a ball or hit the baseball in the beginning gradually improve. By no means are they going to the next level, but seeing them develop and improve was well worth it. Some of these kids ended up going to the same school as my kids and these kids are now grown-up and in college. There are still a couple of kids who I coached and would still call me "Coach" when I run into them. So what does this story have to do with this review? Gellert Park was one of the places we regularly played at and we practiced here every Sunday. The park has three baseball fields, 1 soccer field with artificial turf, playground, picnic area, basketball court, 3 tennis courts and a community room. It's a good park and very well cared for by the city. Every time I am here to walk my dog, I am reminded of those times I was coaching. Even more so when it's baseball season and I see kids practicing on the field. It takes me back to a place in time that I wouldn't mind doing it over again, even having to deal with a few bad apples sprinkled in between. I wouldn't change a thing.

A wanderer explained I would need to get back on the freeway and go around etc. so I just shrugged and hauled myself on the paved path to the park. Playground: I'm such a fan because my son is 17 months and the playground was a great size for him. The slides are low to the ground so I feel comfortable with him going down on his own. I wish the swings were longer cause it's a lot back and forth quick swings but he doesn't complain and asks to jump back and forth between the two options. The area is very small, but not crowded so a sweet low key option for a parent who doesn't want to run around too much. There's a fun dome like spinning seat and a larger swing to sit with your kid in as well. There's not a ton at this park but what there was enough. Safety: I felt super safe here! I There were a handful of people with kids resting at some of the few picnic tables who kept to themselves. There were a few teenagers that strode in but they also kept to themselves. The flooring at this park is spongey and I had no worries about my son falling. There is a concrete "stage" with concrete seating around it that my son loved climbing on so I was close-by for that play area. Resting: Plenty of grass for picnics and 2-3 picnic tables that I noticed. Nothing was shaded though. Overall: I would definitely come back. My son was not ready to leave as he loved it here. I just need to figure out the correct parking lot!

I've been going to this park since the 80's when the park wasn't in a good shape. The main reason…read morefor going to this park was to play pick-up basketball when I used to be gung-ho about playing. Even if the court was outdoors, there were always good competition with older Filipino men to go around. Even though I was a kid and younger than them, I gave 'em a few bumps and bruises. After so many knee surgeries, playing basketball is no longer an option for me...let alone playing outdoors on hard concrete. I'll leave that to the younger generation now as I've come to terms that my glory days are way over. Besides, I don't want to be embarrassed as I've become that old Filipino man that I use to clown on the court. Yup, growing old sucks. Since my playing days are long gone, the city and county has poured in a lot of money to improve, not just the basketball court, but the entire park. There's two separate playgrounds for the older kids and toddlers. Both floor decks are made from recycled rubber, which has become the norm for modern playgrounds. It's very soft and bouncy with a little give for extra padding. There's plenty of picnic tables, that is often rented for parties and events. It's also handicap accessible with wheelchair ramps built in for easy access. There's plenty of grassy fields in the picnic areas as well as the baseball field. Dogs are welcomed too and poo bags are available for your disposal. Bring your dog to the old football field just besides the baseball field to let them run around off leash. There's plenty of free parking spaces available in the parking lot, as well as street parking. There's two tennis courts in an enclosed fence that makes it feel like a private court. They have offices and a community center inside, but I've never been in. If you live in the neighborhood, there's pathways that leads you to the park. Be careful though since I've encountered a few coyotes living in the area, including my sister, who lives just a couple of blocks away. It's a good place to be outdoors to get your exercise, walk your dog or just breathe fresh, foggy and cool South San Francisco weather. It's a clean and well-maintained park that's a good place to hang around and staying active.

He walked the entire park a few times. They had a cool netted structure for older kids to climb and it can be spun which was interesting. There are connected basketball courts and a lawn close by that I saw people playing with their dogs. Maybe it's a dog park? Overall, the park felt safe and was in the middle of a neighborhood, but so small we ran out of things to do for my 17 month old. The structure was also old and I could see the rusty bolts peeking through the broken metal parts. Don't think I'll go back but if it's already in your neighborhood then worth a short walk over and a short stay.

Review for Clubhouse rental-…read more You submit your request on the SF Park and Recs website and there are a bunch of restrictions (no jumpers, no helium balloons, etc). The rental is $90/hr and they tack on an extra fee ( I forgot what it was) for a SF park and rec person to be there monitoring the clubhouse while you host your event. They pretty much are out of the way while you have your party -- they sit in a room doing their homework. Parking - Plentiful on the street and no restrictions on time on the weekends. We choose this park because it was close off the freeway and because of available parking. You clean up the clubhouse (disposal of trash) into there dumpster outside. You get your deposit back in about 1.5 weeks. Bathroom - it's shared with the playground people but there is a separate entrance to go in from the clubhouse. Clubhouse itself is bright and airy with a high ceiling. They provide LIFETIME brand rectangular tables and chairs. (In terms of dimension of the tables -- when I emailed the recreation office, they did not know the dimension size). If you want to check out the clubhouse, you'll have to pay extra fee for them to opened it for you. Otherwise, it's LOCKED. Just because you rent out the clubhouse for a private event, the playground is still open to the public.
