I'm feeling torn for this review. Positive: This is the second dermatologist we have been to and the issues are resolved. The first dermatologist (not at this facility) spent an entire year and made the symptoms/issue worse. To be completely honest, this is the main reason that my review has stars at all. The medical care was on point. The medical staff did not make me feel rushed, the results were positive, and few follow-ups were required. Negative: I expected a pediatric facility, as referred by our family doctor. When I arrived and asked if there was a changing station that I could use to change the baby's diaper, the response that I received was infuriating. The receptionist told me that "this office is not built for children" and to "feel free to take him into the restroom." The implication being to change him on the floor. Note: They require masks upon entering to keep germs controlled, but won't think twice about placing a child on the floor for a diaper change. Awful, just awful. read more

I've never seen Dr. among. I've only worked withMichael Lane PA-C and Jaclyn Golus Mentzer PA-C. I actually like it that way. They were both very thorough in their work. Treated me well each step of the way in my mole removal and exams. I'd highly recommend seeing them. The front office staff and exit visit staff have always been good too. Plenty of tissues and ha d sanitizer out in the lobby. I usually hit up one of the two restrooms for a good hand washing before and after my visit. They are located past the lobby. Turn right. Down the hall on the right. Before you get to the exam rooms. Free parking in the area out front of the entrance. And also by the griddle and those restaurants. But be careful it's permit parking in front of the neighboring corporate building. I've never parked there, but I could see them ticketing or towing there. read more

I had a scheduled appointment this morning at 7:30 for a minor procedure. (This appointment has been scheduled for over a month.) I showed up at 7:15, as instructed in their confirmation email sent to me to remind me of my appointment. I was told my appointment had been cancelled because the machine for my procedure had been down for days. I was told that someone had called me to cancel, when in fact I did not receive any call or notification whatsoever that my appointment had been cancelled. I didn't even receive an apology. They've lost my business for sure. read more

I am experiencing a lot of nerve pain and skin disfigurations from a laser procedure. Michael the PA was less than sympathetic, I took all of my scripts and he wasn't even interested in seeing them. Bill was $180. He did nothing for me and this was out of pocket. Not only was he uninterested in my pain but grammar (and that) used in every sentence, showed me he was an incompetent provider. Dr. Ming runs a medical practice as a for profit business with no regard to the needs and concerns of his long-term patient. I'm disappointed that he took my money instead of giving me a full refund, after his long-time office manager departed his practice. I told him he had lost me as a loyal patient for good and he did not care. I had recommended his medical practice to family and friends, and now my opinion is to stay away from this proactive as Dr. Ming did not care about me as a loyal and long-term patient. I am voting with my feet and recommend you find a more caring medical practice. read more

So when I initially came here for skin issues I saw this really great ( I don't know if she was a doctor or nurse practitioner or what ? ) but , this person who was an Expert in skin and scalp ailments and she was great. Really good listener , friendly, informative, to the point , ect . . I got medicine and within a few months everything cleared up nicely and I came back 3 months later for a follow up with different person all together . They wanted to do a biopsy on a freckle but I declined because I had no desire to as this had happened at other places before and I didn't want to be price gouged . I told them I wanted to hold off unless it seemed immediate and they said " well , you're still young so its probably nothing. Okay , Great , I said . Then - They proceeded to tell me I should consider burning off my freckles because it's a free consultation and it would cost $ 400 per arm , and about $300 for the face . I said I would consider it because it sounds great but it's not a priority as far as my current beauty treatments go - we set up an appointment for one because I was interested in what they would say and do, and few week later forgot about the appointment all together until I recieved an email saying they wanted to reschedule . What annoyed me is that they got my name wrong so I called back to correct them that they either had the wrong patient or to tell them I would rather cancel this alleged appointment anyway because it's not important to me to have all my freckles removed during a pandemic. Now - here's why I'm giving 2 stars : Upon calling the front desk lady to tell her this , she was kind of argumentative about it . Weird . Not to mention the other receptionists there are on the short tempered side and definitely not welcoming or warm . I told them to just forget about it and i wasn't interested at all . Overall I'm glad this experience happened sooner than later because they are clearly just money hungry here and don't appear to give a shit about the patients actual needs . read more

The doctor ignored my concerns and past treatment history. The insisted on ignoring my input and pressured me to their plan. It was extremely expensive, and totally ineffective. Lastly, the billing department was pushy and deceptive. read more

The staff at Gem State Dermatology is very friendly and amazing at what they do. Every time I go there my health requests and worries truly feel seen and heard. This place needs to change. Went in so they could see a spot on my leg. The nurse practitioner did a biopsy and said she would call with the results. They NEVER called. I had to call two times before someone called me back with the results. I then developed an infection, saw a different nurse practitioner and he took a culture. Again NO phone call with results. Again I had to call the office. I insisted on staring antibiotics. The worst was when they printed the prescription it was the wrong medication with someone else's name on it. I told them it was a HIPPA violation to do this. After waiting in the office 25 minutes they came out with the prescription and it was not what the nurse practitioner said they were going to give me. I was told "the drug he prescribed is not in the computer" so changed it. I said no that is not acceptable. They then said they would call it into my pharmacy-which they did NOT do. The pharmacy had to call the office for me. read more

I have been to Gem State twice now and I'm just not impressed. I don't have much options on my insurance plan for dermatologist, but hopefully they will get more on soon because I loathe going here. Sure, everyone seems to be super friendly but the wait times alone make me cringe. The first time I waiting for 45 min after my appointment to be seen. The second time 55 min. I don't have that kind of time since they are open working hours, this is taking time out of my work day! I timed how long I actually saw the doctor the second time. 8 min. I waited 55 min for an 8 min appointment. She was in such a rush because she was so behind that I couldn't even really get the answers I wanted. They just threw a prescription at me and told me to come back in 3 months if it didn't work. Wow, that's service for you. I'm done. I would suggest they seriously evaluate the way they schedule their appointments and hopefully I can find someone new with my limited options. read more

I honestly regret going to this place. A waste of time and money. The wait time was long and when I finally did get called to see the Dr. he spent about 5 minuets talking to me. I went there because of my super dry skin in the cold months by the way. He wrote out a prescription not explaining what it will do to help me (or warning me that this lotion will make my skin really sensitive to the sunlight, which it does) then grabbed a hand full of sample lotions stuck them in my bag and sent me on my way. I payed my co pay and left. This was 3 months ago. Now today I get a letter in the mail saying I owe them $90. I'm sorry but what did that man who calls himself a Dr. do in those 5 minuets that he thinks he earned $110???? I would NEVER recommend this place to ANYONE. read more

Please save yourself the stress and see a different dermatologist! In the past, I had seen Dr. Mings for standard scans as a preventative measure against skin cancer. When I discovered a suspicious mole and called their office, it took me three weeks to get in to see Michael Lane; if I had waited to see Dr. Mings, I wouldn't have gotten in until August. Sure enough, when I got in to have the mole checked, Mr. Lane thought it best to remove it. A week later, Mr. Lane reported back with the results: melanoma, something no one wants to hear, but he made it ten times worse by telling me incorrect information (Stage IV is much different than Level IV when it comes to cancer!) and he omitted an important piece of the pathology report which actually could have saved my family and I much emotional turmoil. Dr. Mings happened to be out of the office for two weeks, so I was sent to another practice for additional surgery, however, the two offices did not communicate well at all, leaving me in the middle trying to unite the two. To top it off, Dr. Mings called me two days later to "ensure my proper care" but it was clear he was trying to save face. He talked over me, interrupted me numerous times, and was very condescending. Overall, I had a terrible experience with Gem State, I will never be returning, and I would advise others to seek services elsewhere. read more

The PA at the time, 2015, botched a cyst removal and did a terrible job stitching. I'm now left with an awful visible scar on my chest.

I went Gem State Dermatology on 9/19 in the evening and it was a great experience. First off the front desk lady was super sweet to me. I have really bad anxiety and she offered to hold my hand if I had to get any moles removed. The doctor I saw was Michael Lane and he was very professional and professional. I have been going to Gem State since I was a kid and my family had gone there for years! They provide great service and a friendly and competent staff. I have seen a review regarding the wait time but I have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes and I have been there at least 5 times in the last year. I have never waited more than 5 min in the waiting area and Michael spends a great amount of time with me in the exam room. He answers all my questions and concerns and has been great. I was there today for the first time. Holly the PA is wonderful and very professional. Also the nurse that helped her (did not get her name) was very through. The front desk lady was very nice but when I came in there was another lady at her desk (I assumed was office manager) that was not friendly at all. Not a word to me. Also in checking out the two women behind the check out desk were NOT friendly at all! The one spoke to me that "they would bill my insurance" and didn't even make eye contact! The other one that made my next appointment was very cold. Love Holly and nurse but NOT the office staff. read more

I have gone to Gem State Dermatology numerous times and highly recommend them for anyone in the Boise area. I have had both surgery and diagnosis take place here and have always been impressed by the service. I have never waited for more than 15 minutes to be seen. I have been a patient of Gem State for a few years and though Dr Mings and the PA's have given good service, the office staff has constantly been horrendous. Repeated overcharges and unhelpful, combative attitude. What disappointed me the most, was the unprofessional office manager. Instead of correcting the issues, she escalated the situation with a defensive posture. She refused to listen to me, the patient and cut me off at every word. She is definitely loyal to her staff, but at the cost of the patient and reputation to Dr Mings business. In today's competitive market, service is everything, which Gem State fails at. I got a cyst removed by the doctors incompetent PA. Huge regret because she does stitches like I would do stitches, scared of messing up because I have no experience and sewing someone up sounds gross. I couldn't do it. And guess what... She messed up, has no experience, and can't do it. The girl should be fired and work in a peds clinic getting vitals only. My scar looks HORRIBLE. If they hadn't made me sign a document stating that they are, "not responsible for the outcome of the scarring" then I would have pursued legal action. But I was desperate to remove the cyst and ignored my warning instinct. The scar is ten times more noticeable than my cyst ever was... And it was the size of a small bouncy ball. So stay far away from here!!!! read more

If I could give them zero stars I would. This place is fraudulent. They will call your insurance company to see what is covered in your plan prior to your visit. Then they will have you sign papers stating you will pay for services rendered. However, they will not tell you until after services are preformed that in fact your insurance does not cover light therapy until your walking out the door. We will never return. read more

I wouldn't recommend this dermatology clinic to anyone. I had juvederm done there and it was the worst I've had. The results were nonexistent. I saw next to no improvement. I've had Juvederm done before with excellent results. In addition, the pain was excruciating. No one needs to go through this kind of experience. Dr. Mings didn't do the procedure - some very untrained staff person did it. What a huge mistake and a huge waste of money. read more

I've seen Dr. Ming's for the past 8 years and he has been helpful, but the service of his staff members is awful. On multiple occasions the office staff members have been rude and dismissive. Unfortunately, it's not worth being Dr. Ming's patient if it's necessary to deal with his hostile coworkers. read more

Very nice receptionist who could not make an appointment for me once she found out I was a "Medicare" patient.....but was ready to do so this week before that info was shared. And she could not refer me to another dermatologist since they are not taking new Medicare patients either. Unless of course I waste Medicare dollars by going to my primary care physician first and get a referral. And so it goes and it is not the Affordable Care Act causing prices to go up. read more

I went to this office for about two years. My husband and two of my girlfriends I also sent in. My parents go here also and some of my clients. My parents will even tell you the doctor isnt a nice man at all but his PA is nice and they only go because they like his location. For me and my friends and my husband we all will never use this office again and I will never send another client there as long as I am working in the same field. I went in for Botox and mentioned my skin is dry. The PA handed me a sample and we joked when I asked him why my friends and I still have acne in our thirties he just laughed and said "sounds like you need new friends ," and never prescribed me anything to my knowledge. Well I paid my bill and co pay and left. I then go a bill for 81 bucks which I called in asking why and they said my insurance had denied them payment and I needed to pay. I said I did not feel comfortable with the bill and would like to have her talk with the doc.She waited a month never called me back like she said and never lowered my bill because she claimed there was a prescription called in which I had no knowledge of nor did I ever pick up which I offered to prove to her. She laughed when I told her she was about to make me cry. The billing lady is such a mean woman and she sent my friend a large bill claiming she under charged her once and demanded she pay. My friend refused because she said she was not going to pay for her mistake. They have called me to give me my friends lab results which is against hippa not to mention our names are nothing alike. When my husband went in to have a mole looked at she left him sitting at the check out counter for a long time. Maybe this is why it is so easy to get an appointment there when other derms are a long wait. read more
