Gem auto service is amazing! Donald was both our driver to and from Newark airport. Each trip, he was early and patiently waited for our arrival, ready to go. On the way to the airport, Terminal A, he suggested that we specify curbside pickup for our return, noting the considerable walk to the parking lot there. Later, I made sure that request was set. Upon our return, Donald was waiting for us immediately outside of the baggage pickup carousel, with the precision of car doors were lined up with the exit doors. I cannot speak highly enough about this organization. I recently experienced their service when I was visiting Princeton, New Jersey. I had a driver who picked me up at the airport and another who dropped me off. Both of them were excellent in every way. The drivers were friendly, courteous, and professional and made sure that I was comfortable during my ride. But something additionally happened. During my first ride, I inadvertently left a black scarf in the car. It took me at least a day before I realized it was missing. When I called them and inquired about it, I was surprised they had it! The first driver, Holly, had turned it in. When I called the office, I was greeted by a wonderful woman whose name I don't remember at this time. And that's a shame, because she was quite lovely. She compassionately and patiently located my scarf and worked with me to get it returned. They mailed it back to me at their own cost. That doesn't happen these days. They went above and beyond the call of duty, and their staff are magnificent. I cannot recommend them more highly. read more

My family and I had a trip of a lifetime planned to Maui. With a 5:30AM pick up I was concerned about the company being on time. 5:10 and the driver was texting me to let me know he was in the driveway! He packed up all are luggage and we were off! The return trip was no different...I got a text message as I was leaving the airplane that my driver was on site and waiting for me to give him my location when ready. I have been using Gem limousine for a number of years with multiple monthly trips to/from Newark airport for international travel (enough to earn Global Services status on United). The drivers are friendly and usually very timely with clean late model cars. What I find disappointing is that Gem does not have any type of loyalty program for their clients. Concord limo understands the value of loyalty and corporate accounts; They have a customer loyalty program. Unfortunately my company does not have an account with Concord so they are not an option for me. I would switch from Gem in a second for this reason alone. Multiple calls to their corporate office have gone unanswered. Their management level customer service is non-existent...almost cowardly as they refuse to return my calls to discuss the matter. Whatever you do, do not. I repeat, DO NOT use this limo company. I simply called Gem Limo and spoke to a Jason. We decided on a 8 passenger Mercedes Sprinter van for 4 hours. He quoted me $467.00 plus tolls. When I called back I asked Jason for a discount and he said he will give me 10% off the $467.00. What happened next kept me on the phone for 45 minutes and this is when I found out what Gem Limo is all about. 10% is $46.70. Jason kept saying no. I kept saying yes. It isn't rocket science to figure 10% if $467.00. I came up with $420.30 and he came up with $433.70. He insisted this was 10%. I am a business person. In customer service for years. I was getting frustrated and he couldn't explain to me why he was at a different price. He puts me on hold for a very long time. Gets back on the phone and tells me his manager figured it out and that is what it is. I told him impossible. Lauren gets on the phone. She's the Director of Global Business Development. Lol. OMG!!! Lauren now tells me that 10% discount is only off the base price. What base price?????? I simply called for a limo to take myself and some business people for dinner. I had to understand this base price thing. She says base price is $330.00 so $33.00 only comes off. I asked what was the other costs that are bringing me up to $467.00. She says gratuity's. $137.00 of gratuity for a $320.00 limo ride!!! I was floored. That's over 40% gratuity!!!! I got so frustrated. She says, "Mam, what do you want to pay?" I will try to help you. I'll go right to the President if I have to. I tell her $300.00. I couldn't believe she even would just ask me that open ended question. So she says, "hold on". She puts me on hold for 15 more minutes. She never comes back on the line. A woman named Dina gets on the phone. I ask her her title. She says, "you don't need to know that". Now I'm laughing. I asked her if She was serious and she said, "never mind what my title is". I think she was embarrassed to tell me that she was the owner of the Woodbridge NJ location. Anyway, Dina refuses to do anything for me. She was condescending and unprofessional. She told me the same base price story as Lauren and said, "Take it or leave it". I spent almost an hour on the phone. Spoke to 3 people and not one person was "Focused on me" as their Message says nor the horrible experience I was having. I since have found a local place and the owner worked me such a wonderful deal. No bull, no misleading numbers. Gave me a great price to go into Weehawken for dinner. Even included the tolls. By the way, this company nicked and dimes you for every minute you go over and they charge you extra for ice and you must pay for the limo until it gets back to their location not yours!!!! PS..... they keep your credit card open and charge you for every moment in traffic and everything. No thank you!!! You better have big wallets!! I do and I still wouldn't give my business to a bunch of unappreciative, unprofessional and incompetent people!!!! Used Gem Limousine today and had bad experiences both ways. Driver was late picking me up at the airport and I had to go find him on the curb. Not that I mind but he didn't even attempt to call me even though he was 30 minutes late. Customer service number was quick to resolve. He did not open/close my car door, offer water, phone charger or to change the temperate in the car. I actually don't think he spoke much English because I had to repeat myself when I asked how long the ride would be. The return driver was on time but was very old and should not be driving. Drove slow and could not change lanes well. He spoke English but couldn't here very well. Cars were alright, not that new but no wifi, water or good air ventilation. At Newark, driver was ready for me when I reached the arrivals hall, with a tablet indicating my name. On the way back, the driver was waiting outside for me at least 15 minutes before my pickup time (that's how early I was as well). Not a good experience - I'd use someone else. Arrived 3hr & 20 min late at 10:40pm (weather delay). No limo waiting when I arrived. Called dispatch who said 25min to have a car there and I should be curb side so the driver didn't need to park. While waiting I got a Uber quote. They could be here in 20 and $19-26 for the ride. My Gem fare is $63.31. After waiting 35 min, dispatch called to say only 10min more - he also said he was sorry about all this. After waiting 47 min, car arrives - driver waves an unpowered tablet that I'm guessing should have displayed my name. He looks around and sees that it's not working, and in Jersey fashion he roles down the window and bellows my last name while 2 lanes out from the curb. Oh what a Gem. My colleague had used them about a year ago to travel from Manhattan to Newark airport. The car ended up breaking down and my colleague almost missed his flight. Gem subsequently sent us a $50 gift card. I tried to use the gift card to go from Jersey City to Hackensack, which would cost $22-$30 in an Uber. I made the reservation 5 days in advance to my family arrival and I specifically request for a foreign language speaking driver. Even though they took the reservation including the request they did not comply and I found out by chance 30 min before the flight arrived. I found out that there was actually a driver that speaks the language at the airport waiting for another passenger with 15 min difference and they were not helpfull at all.
