Loved the Reid park zoo and saw the playground on the way in so when we left the zoo we stopped here for my son to play. The whole park is huge but we just hung around by the playgrounds. It was super busy on a Saturday late afternoon (understandably). It was a little dirty but not terrible. I've worked with kids of all ages for years so I'm not like overly irked by kids behavior but wow they were wild, terrible language, breaking apart a tree and swinging a giant branch around, overall just playing rough with no regard to other kids trying to play. Maybe just not a good place to take a toddler or might just be the specific day we went. But don't think I'd be back for that reason. read more

Beautiful winter sunny day at Reid park for the annual Martin Luther King march & community event at the Demester outdoor stage area . Marched. In memory &unity 3 miles around the golf course . What a multipurpose recreation area in the heart of our community . Historic baseball park , other baseball fields were having games . The zoo going through major expansion was busy too. A large pond with ducks and other birds . ( don't feed them bread the sign said ). A small train was running from the zoo around the duck pond area. Several newer playgrounds along with ramadas and tables for your private use with reservations . East side has 2 golf courses , tennis courts , recreation building with gym , various classes , and also a therapeutic outdoor pool for people with special needs" ( respectfully if that's the best description). My first introduction to Reid park was back in 2005. I participated in a 5km event for Breast Cancer and the American Cancer society. The route was around the park, making a big square using side walks. I've been back several times, usually to walk my dogs for a bit before driving back home near Sierra Vista. I park on the south side off 22nd Ave and walk around the ponds. That's just under a mile and a nice leg stretcher before the drive home. There are plenty of trees for shade. There are always people in the park at any time. The ponds are well-lighted and in the summer months people stay out late to enjoy the cooler air. This also means there are always people, so it's not always a place for solitude. Lately there has been construction on the south side. It's mostly around the zoo. Dogs are not allowed in the pond and I can understand why: there are a lot of waterfowl here. But tell that to a thirsty dog! I have to convince her to wait until we get to Barnum Hill, where water is poured downhill into the ponds. There she is allowed to step into the water for a drink, I didn't even realize this park has a dog park until I read the other reviews! I must try that next time. read more

OVERALL Needed a place to let my kids let loose after being on the road for 9 hours after visiting family for Thanksgiving in New Mexico. Gene C. Reid Park was the perfect place to do so - not to mention it was free! ENVIRONMENT It's desert life. I didn't expect lush green grass everywhere, but the many dogs on leashes seemed to enjoy the grassy fields that did exist. I'm probably forgetting stuff, but while we were there saw the following: + baseball backstops + dog park + playground (two separate ones) + ponds with lots of water birds + Rose Test Garden (don't know what the hell the test was... the roses grew fine) MY FAVORITE PART... How big the place was. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... No major complaints. SERVICE I never saw any park employees, but I can tell that they do a good job of keeping the place picked up. Large park directly next to Reid Zoo. The focal point is a beautiful lake with a number of smaller ponds close by, making for a serene scene. In addition to plenty of chairs and tree-shaded areas, families will discover a respectable number of playground equipment for children. Convenient restrooms are close to the main parking lot. Although there isn't a dedicated dog park, dogs are welcome. read more

I went to the south west corner (22nd & Country Club) of Reid Park with my kids (8 & 6) while the kids were on Winter Break to keep from going stir crazy and we're pleasantly surprised by this corner of the park. There were large grass fields, which are a luxury in Tucson with backstops for soccer, softball, kickball... As well as a number of play structures for kids of various ages. A little further in there is a duck pond fed by some man made waterfalls that connects to a larger pond. Living in the desert, sometimes it's nice to be able to see some moving water. The kids loved watching all the different birds in the pond. A sign said that feeding the ducks was not allowed. They also have covered patios that you can reserve for parties or gatherings. Overall a great place to spend an hour or two with the kids. And this was just one corner of the park. There's the zoo, golf course/ driving range and other athletic areas. What a blessing to have a place like this in town. read more

Reid park just remodeled one of the playgrounds. There are giant chimes and drums for the kids to bang! The 2-5yr old section of the playground is nice too but not nearly as extensive as the section for the older kids. So, of course my baby wanted to go on the big kid playground...and I turned into a helicopter mama bc I was worried she'll get trampled or hurt. It's easy to see why she wanted to go to the big kid playground though. The older kids have a giant playground with a giant car that acts like a seesaw. The kids love it. They have 4 regular swings, two baby swings, and tucked around the corner they have two "rocket chair" swings the kids actually get strapped into. Lastly, there is a structure that looks like a giant trampoline obstacle course. read more

This is my local park, and I love love love it. I take my dog to the dog park, check out music during the summer under the stars, walk to the rose garden, check out the ducks and geese around the lake. I visit the statues, look at the horseshoe pits, there are tons of things to do and see here; golf courses, baseball fields, paths to walk and bike on. It's filled with ramadas to have parties, and also has a generous amount of trash cans, so there isn't lots of litter around. I guess I just enjoy the grass and trees most. It's well maintained and plus there are lots of restrooms if you need them. read more

Of all the local city parks (I visited), this one is my favorite. It also seemed both the greenest and overall best maintained - and seemed to be designed for the most diverse usage (with a zoo and large pond in addition to sports fields, picnic areas, and enclosed off-leash dog area). It also host some local weekend events. There is a stage for performances - and food trucks. read more

I would love to give this place 4stars at least but this place just doesn't inspire me. Dont get me wrong this park is huge and i can see that it attracts a lot of parkgoers. My only irks about this park is that the park grounds is not well maintained. The fields are well taken cared of but the surroundings are full of litters. The man made lake is pretty with the ducks in it, but from afar! The water is filthy and has trash in it. I guess with parks this big it's a little harder to maintain and also with the weather not helping with the cause. However, part of the problem are the parkgoers who just doesn't give a care and throw their trash like the place is a big ol trash can. Pick up after yourselves and make this park worth going to. read more

Beautiful park with a lot of walkways, grass areas, a lake, a pond, and numerous amendments attached to it. I could start listing for probably an hour, but you don't want to read that. I will say the zoo is connected to this park. My boyfriend, puppy, and I enjoy walking around this park because it is well lit at night (it gets too hot during the day) and the park itself is very clean. We do not really use the dog park because it is not well maintained, not because of the park, but because of some of the people who use it. It is a common problem...one rotten apple spoils the bunch. There are also numerous events held here that are a lot of fun. We were just at Puppy Fest which was so much fun and my puppy loved meeting other dogs. This is probably one of the best parks in Tucson. read more

We enjoy long walks at Gene C Reid park. If you beat the heat early in the morning or later in the evening, then the weather is tolerable. We enjoy the duck pond, lakes, waterfalls, and jungle gyms. Cons: the trash has really built up in the park and the homeless population has also grown in the area. I always bring my dog so I feel safer. It's not the best side of town, but once you tuck away in the park, it's fine. I haven't had any issues. Enjoy!! read more

This is such a nice park, super big, clean, and the grass looks like it's been kept well. There is a big pond with cute ducks all around it and it's a nice place to bring your kids to when it's nice outside. A small bit of paradise in the middle of Tucson. I haven't spent very much time at Reid Park, but the time I have spent there has been generally relaxing, refreshing, and fun. Watching all the ducks is my favorite because there are some funny ones, and I also enjoy just strolling through the rose garden. I know they have concerts throughout the year at the amphitheater, and I would love to check them out sometime. The dog park here is also absolutely fantastic. The park really is beautifully kept and shady, the water flowing is refreshing when you don't get to see water very often. This is a perfect quick escape for anyone who wants to hang out in some grass, have a shady picnic, or just walkabout. read more

A great park. Just to the east of the 22nd Street entrance there is a large horseshoe area, and I understand a local horseshoe club plays there every week. On Sunday afternoon we were wandering around after our visit to the Rose Garden and encountered the Tucson Petanque Club playing (what the French call) boules. ... horseshoes with balls! We've been to many parks in Tucson, and Reid is our favorite. There is so much room to walk, great playgrounds and two duck ponds. I'm not reviewing the Zoo or other attractions here, just the park. Seating is plentiful when you need a break from playing with your kids, and if you can get a swing seat, it will take you back to your childhood! My only complaint is the trash left everywhere. There are trash cans all over the park, is it so hard to walk a few steps and throw trash in its proper receptacle? Happily the duck ponds appeared to have been cleaned since our last visit, a big thank you to the park employees! However, they can't follow everyone around. Please, if you go here, remember the park is for everyone's enjoyment. read more

Normally this is a great park. We love the zoo! The dog park is spacious and the people/dogs are friendly. The plentiful shade and greenery are lovely to share with family and friends on hot summer days. However, the toilets must be attended to. Today our son had to defecate in public and I had to clean it up with paper towels because the two bathroom facilities we visited were both inaccessible. One was deadlocked and the other had a chain link fence wrapped around the exterior. read more

I really love this park. They have a rec center with events/classes, as well as swimming (nice for the hot Tucson summers). My son loves running all over the playground and playing on the swingsets. They have a duck pond, he enjoys, with a quaint little running waterfall the kids just love. They even have a little train on a few of the Saturdays we went, where you can ride around the pond (10 minutes or so) for $2 per person, good for young children. A good place to run, jog, rollerblade, play catch, picnic, bbq etc. And, they regularly have events/festivals/fairs also, that are a nice, inexpensive and healthy way to get out of the house and enjoy time with your loved ones. A true Tucson gem. read more

This is a cute park. We have gone here a few times. There are plenty of playgrounds for all ages and the kids love the pond with the ducks. The downside, it gets busy later in the day and the bathrooms are very open. I really feel like I'm going to the bathroom outside. A few times we had gone, there was so much duck poop, no one could walk by the pond. This last time, it was much cleaner. read more

I really like this park. I come here mainly for the dog park, which both of my dogs love! Just wish they had more grass. And the pond is pretty polluted most of the time. But besides that I like how big it is and well maintained other then the pond. read more

I run in and around Reid Park a few times a week so I've definitely seen my fair share of it! It's a really centrally located park bringing some much needed greenery to the desert. In addition to a nice running path there is a dog park, play grounds, a golf course and driving range, the zoo, some memorial plazas, baseball fields (including the one that the UA baseball team plays at!), tennis courts, an adaptive aquatic center, an amphitheater, a couple nice ponds, restrooms and water fountains, a rose garden and the Randolph Recreation Center which offers classes and programs.... whew, that was a lot! There are often races, community events and activities going on at the park and certain portions can be rented for private use as well. While it isn't the most well maintained park I've ever been to it's one of the few of it's kind in Tucson and we're lucky to have such a large space dedicated to nature. A few complaints is that there are sometimes questionable people lurking around the park, especially in the bathrooms and certain portions of the bike path and some parking lots/roads are not very well lit. read more

Love this 3 mile loop around the park. Friends and I walk it almost every sunday. And then detour to the starbucks for an after walk treat!
