This is a great park that connects to a walking trail. There are basketball courts, pickleball courts, and baseball diamonds. Great little neighborhood spot!

    In these times of pandemic.

ORo Calley has some great parks. River front Park is close enough too walk and his connected to our subdivision by the Town's multiuser trails. It's easy to access, also plenty of parking and amenities. The parks has playground equipment, Ramada's, soccer fields, volleyball pits, tennis and b-ball courts as well as some very nice ball fields with stands and refreshment areas. Gorgeous views of the mountains and easy access to the wash and trail/path system. Thanks OV for a great facility.

Nice park with lots to do. They have two sets of playground equipment with the smaller geared towards toddlers. The larger has a one twist and one straight slide. It also has monkey bars, a rock wall, and other "ladders" to the top. You'll find swings for all ages. There are two large soccer fields, a couple baseball fields, and basketball and tennis courts. Bring a dog and take them on the walking trails. Two pavilions are available for group events. If you end up staying longer than expected, you'll find bathrooms on site.

Over 30 people, 1 BB court, most waiting

This is more of a review of Oro Valley, not just this park. OV Parks & Rec has only 1 lighted regulation size basketball court for a population of well over 40000 people. That's way, way... WAY under the average per capita community basketball courts for the U.S.! At the same time, OV owns at least 32 lighted tennis courts. Last night, I played basketball here and 30+ people were crowding the court. The wait to play was at least 4 games. I even saw more kids drive up to play but left once they saw how many people were already waiting. I wonder how many of OV's 32 tennis courts were empty at that time. I know the one next to us was empty. OV should add a 2nd basketball court here or convert the tennis court to one. If they did, I would give this park 5 Stars! As it is, I'm giving it 2 stars, mainly because I'm still annoyed by OV closing the park at 9pm instead of 10pm last winter, which further limited access to the one and only regulation size court in OV.

    Soccer practice!

Great park, tennis courts, covered playground, walking paths, picnic tables and bathrooms. Usually pretty active. And lots of parking.

I thought it was pretty cool the way they reflected pictures onto the ground of the animals they discussed. They taught us not just about the animals of the desert, but also about the rock formations, and constellations as well . They did an introduction before we set out on the trail and an icebreaker, which I also thought was a cool little activity to help us all feel more comfortable. I would definitely do this again, and recommend it for anyone who's never done it. This would be a great activity to bring an out-of-town friend on. FYI- the hell when you first start, the trail is pretty steep.. I was huffing and puffing a bit lol. If you have any knee injuries or struggle with steep land, you might want to sit this one out. The rest of the trail is flat after however the hill is needed to start and end the trail (it probably took like 1-2 minutes to scale it). Also to find the area where the hike starts, you'll want to drive all the way through the park until you get to the parking lot on the left. For some reason, I thought it would be pretty close to when you enter the park, however, it is a little drive.

Late Nov, 2025. Honey Bee Canyon Park, Oro Valley, AZ. We wanted to do an easy morning hike, and…read morethis park was in close proximity to our resort. This family-friendly park, in the Sonoran Desert, features petroglyphs, a historic rock dam, three miles of hiking trails, rentable ramadas (covered open shelters with picnic tables), and a few benches and grills. It is open dawn to dusk. Being mostly flat, most of the trails are rated as "easy", but there are a few limited areas where the slope is a bit steep and you need to ascend/descend on slippery sand or gravel/small stone. Entrance to the park and parking are free. The parking lot has about 20 spaces, and was half-full during our visit on a Saturday morning. The Oro Valley, AZ webpage has two maps, one of the park and the other of trails. Per our AllTrails app, we walked a total of about 1.6 miles on a route that included the rock dam, but turned back as it was starting to get hot, we were having trouble staying on trail because of lack of signage, and there was limited shade in the desert. This is a very nice park, that would've merited a 5-star rating had there been better signage. There is NO informational sign near the parking lot (or anywhere else in the park for that matter) with a map of the trails and amenities in the park. We parked in the lot on the side near the exit, and started our walk through an arch on a path that descended down to the flat area, but it seemed somewhat washed out and sand-slippery. Upon returning later, we found that there were two PAVED paths up to the parking area but on the entrance side that we hadn't seen earlier. In fact, one of these paths was accessible. Also, while hiking, we found that there were a lot of potential paths that we could follow. My husband, who is an avid hiker, kept going in directions other than where my AllTrails app said that we should go to stay on the loop trail we intended to take. There were some signs there, but they were missing at critical junction points. We also overheard another group of six turn around because they weren't sure how to continue the loop. This is also a comment made by many on AllTrails.

Or if you prefer, you can walk/run/bike along the wild side on the packed sand next to the paved trail weaving your way through the mesa verde trees and mesquite. Bring your dogs too, they'll also enjoy it. Most of the year, the river bed is dry and filled with scrub brush common in the Sonoran desert, but occasionally in the spring when the snow melts in the mountains, or during the summer monsoon season, the river will completely fill and the water will rage. Some have even been known to try riding a raft when the water reaches the banks. (FYI, don't do this! It isn't safe.) There are several city parks like Brandi Fenton where you can park and start your journey. Best to look at maps online to find the closest entry point and parking location convenient to you; as the park does cross over a lot of streets. In the distance, you will be able to enjoy the view of Mt. Lemmon and the rest of the Santa Catalina mountain range as it turns different hues of pink, red, orange, brown depending on the time of day you come. Sunrise in the summer months and sunset in the winter are great times to go in order to stay comfortable temperature wise. The trail was an almost daily staple in our lives when we lived here and walked the dogs along the trail or cycled and ran with friends. Even returning, while driving through town, we couldn't help but stop and take a stroll down memory lane by revisiting this lovely gem in Tucson.

Due to all the construction on La Cañada, I was a little confused on whether the trail ended or continued across the street. There were a few other walkers and bikers that I encountered along my path and all were friendly. Signs do warn to beware of venemous creatures and one should always keep their eye on the path ahead of you. Today I encountered a medium sized rattlesnake sunning itself in the middle of the path. I've also experienced the other end of the park off Thornydale and it's a great stretch along the Cañada del Oro as well.
