A solid three stars. The little Chinese take outs, I feel are a dying breed. The little one at the corner if 16 and Yonge is no more, as it likely is getting harder and harder to keep operations going in this day and age. Well General Tso's is a workhorse, called them at noon on a Tuesday a bit after 4, had to park a mile away because of the odd parking rules in the afternoon, and food ready by about 4:30. I have to comment on the exceptional packing. The food was still warm about 3 hours later it is all fresh and flavourful. A bit pricey, especially the chicken fried rice at $7.95, but the General Tso's chicken (you have to order the namesake) is very tasty, aling with the crispy beef (not very crispy, but fried up goodness) eggplant and shrimp in lobster sauce. Absolute worst experience starts to finish CROOKS. NO explanation AT ALL AS to what size of dish you are ordering. They charge ridiculous prices for appetizer size ordinary food and don't mention at all that they're charging you $50.00 for 3 small apps and a watery wonton soup the size of a small coffee. Still a solid 4 stars, great for what it is! My 'go-to' local delivery joint for Canadianized Chinese food is still solid and reliably good. GTK's prices are at the lower end for this area, portions are great, and quality is very good, on many dishes! Ignore the whiners below, they are either dishonest competitors, or mistaken, as everything is freshly made and delivered hot. I have ordered scores of times, and have tried every place that will deliver here to my Yonge-Sheppard condo, and there are only a couple of places that are up to the same quality, but they all cost 50% more, or literally double the price, for no better food. NOTE that, like ALL Chinese joints, they do some dishes better than others, so you need to pay attention to the specific dish recommendations of the fans. (Don't be that person who is taken to Swiss Chalet, orders the pasta, then complains, lol.) We got the General Tso chicken with fried rice here. The place is old and dated, and definitely focused on take-out and delivery orders. The food itself... well... here are the pros: the portions are huge. Unfortunately, that's where it ends of me. The food was waaaay too fried and the chicken was tough. I used to order from here years and years ago when it was House of Chiu. I'm not sure exactly when the name changed but I order from time to time as it's a reliable place. This time, I ordered beef fried rice to go. Overall, I was pretty disappointed...the rice lacked flavour completely. It was really dark, so I figured it was going to be a touch salty - maybe a lot of soy. But it literally lacked flavour. The beef was a little weird as well, just didn't have a good texture. I found myself avoiding eating the beef chunks after a bit. Very disappointing food. I wasn't expecting Chinese food to be a culinary delight, but everything we ordered tasted very bland and not anywhere hear fresh. It took no more than 15-20 minutes for the food to get to our door after the restaurant called to confirm the order - and the restaurant is at about 10 minutes away. I don't think a single thing in the order had been freshly cooked. The beef friend rice tasted bland and like it had been reheated. The honey garlic ribs were so dry that they looked and tasted porous. Their eggplant dish must have been covered in maple syrup - I've had Chinese eggplant from a variety of restaurants, but this is the first time I couldn't eat it. It was so, so sweet from whatever sauce they put on it!! We also had beef and snow peas which was probably the least offensive, and merely tasteless. The cashew chicken was about the same. If we'd put them both on the same plate and tasted blindly, we probably couldn't have distinguished the meals. Yeah, that bad. A second home..as I walk into the joint I greet the owner/clerk/manager "Hello sir, I'll have my usual". He already knows. "Mapo Tofu". That is of course after months..which became 2 years. Yuck! Ordered delivery as a preorder, but was delivered immediately. Delivery time was fast (30 min) but I requested it be delivered an hour later! Food was very bland. Everything tasted the same. Veggies were barely cooked and in quite large pieces. Maybe it's a personal preference but I don't like hard veggies that require a knife in my lo mein or wonton soup. We ordered four dishes, most of which we could taste frozen or pre-packaged elements.
