Moultrie is a much better and newer playground than Brittlebank (comparing the two because they are walking distance from one another). Some loser had left pistachio shells all over the playground and it hadn't been cleaned up during our visit. I'm curious as to whether or not crews come by and how long the shells have been there/will be there for. read more

Still one of the prettiest and most relaxing places to hang out or get your exercise on downtown. It's not located down in the midst of all the tourist attractions, so it's never over-populated. Parking is readily available on the streets that surround the lake. The wide sidewalk that has been redone is much more spacious for getting a run or walk in at lunch time, or in the evening after work. There are plenty of park benches surrounding the lake as well. There is not a bad view in the house! The Moultrie Playground sits next to a high rise building that is currently being "renovated" we'll say. They have tarps hanging on the building to stop any flying debris, so things are still open around it. There is a tennis court if you need a place to play. You can try out your remote control boats in the lake and they even have a race at least yearly. During the holidays, they light a Christmas tree in the middle of the lake, with a lighting ceremony that you can take part in if interested. If you find yourself downtown with a few extra minutes, this is a great place to spend them. Soak up some sun rays or have a picnic lunch. read more

Beautiful little park smack dab in the midst of downtown. Parking was ample around noon mid week, which was a nice bonus. There was a small ceremony going on at one end of the pool, but it was easily avoided while walking around the pool. Despite the hot hot hot July sun, there were plenty of shady spots to hang out in. I took to a bench on the park side with a book to cool down. There were several landscapers mowing the lawns and weeding, keeping the park pristine! Lots of kids playing basketball and enjoying the area. There is a Holy Spokes bike share as well! read more

The redesign of this park left a bit of a sour taste to many local residents as it was fenced off and caused a displeasing look in the local residential community for over a year. Now that it is finished and re-opened, it is one of the most beautiful spots in all of Charleston and more importantly, it is hidden very well from the common touristy traffic. So what can I do here that makes this so special. 1. I can walk, jog or bike this 1/2 mile man made pond with open skies and beautiful architecture all around. 2. I can play tennis, basketball or softball right in the park. 3. I can picnic by a bench under the many trees. 4. I can fish in peace and quiet. 5. I have free wifi. Yes free for the County Parks. 6. I can escape life and still be the heart of downtown Charleston, just a few steps from Broad Street and King Street 7. I can do nothing, but think and still be happy 8. You can't take a bad picture. The Colonial Lake renovations are great and it's a nice place to come to relax, walk, or run. There are working water fountains and you can park around the lake (if you can find a spot). It is about a 1/2 mile if you run or walk a lap around the lake, and Colonial Lake's central location makes it easy to extend your walk or run to the areas South of Broad, along the Battery, near the Marina, or other parts of the peninsula. The lake has benches around it, bathrooms are located near the tennis courts, and pets are welcome. read more

This is a great place to come for a walk/run or to just sit on one of many benches and relax. The walkway around the lake is paved and wide enough for people traveling both directions so you don't have to move out of the way constantly for people passing. read more

I really like Colonial Lake and Moultrie Playground as together they are great spaces to get outside and enjoy some of the best parks in Charleston. Colonial Lake is a nice space to walk, run, or just sit down and enjoy the water and fresh air. The area around the lake is nicely maintained and manicured with trees, plants, and flowers and really allows you to get away from the city without going anywhere. I like that the area is very peaceful and allows you to clear your head on a busy and stressful day. A couple of laps around the lake really works well to make for a better day or wind down at the end of the day. I have always enjoyed the experience that Colonial Lake and Moultrie Playground provide. read more

Amazing renovations to an already beautiful part of downtown. This lake is a wonderful place to park your car (for free - limit to two hours) and walk around the lake while chatting with friends and enjoying the wonderful Charleston weather. With plenty of benches, it's a great place to come out for a lunch break and get some fresh air away from the office. Pets are welcome to walk with you on a leash, but please pick up after them so nobody has an accident while they're running or walking. read more

The hard work of the city, the Conservancy and volunteers continue and the improvement is clear. The climbing pink roses wrapped round the Palmetto trees were glorious this spring. Now the abundant purple flowers - what are they - are so beautiful. Still miss the huge oleanders that once bordered the lake, and think some of the newer plants may be high-priced weeds, but I'll be happier park goer this year. Hoping we can avoid flooding for a season, and really hoping that the lake plays a role in mitigating flooding and not causing it. Kills me when I see girls lying on the tiny bit of grass that borders the sidewalk in their swim suits. There is no swimming in that lake, no sand either. Just one request: is there a way to avoid dumping truckloads of mulch in the street? It's a traffic hazard that's not appreciated much. read more
