I have been a short-term resident of this facility, and I have family members who have been residents there as well. My personal experience, as well as the experiences of my family members at this facility has been very positive. The facility's Administration has an open door policy and has been willing to listen to issues or concerns I had or my family members had, and then quickly addressed them. Staff members, from Nurses, to CNAs, to Housekeepers and Maintenance have been highly responsive and attentive, and the facility is kept very clean. The facility also has an excellent Physical and Occupational Therapy staff who really go out of their way to work with the residents who receive therapy. I would give this facility a 5 star rating except they need to improve the food menu, and improve the resident call-button response time. read more

These people always have a bad day everybody from the to the CNA's to the receptionist asshole in the phone to the housekeeping gentleman that's keeping the place clean. On behalf my entire family, we extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring, compassionate and loving staff at Generations at Applewood in Matteson, IL. I often say, "attitude reflects leadership" so, I commend the Executive Leadership of this Organization for fostering a truly loving and caring environment. From the moment I stressfully arrived, I was met by the Admissions Director who personally provided an immediate tour of the facility. Due to the terrible communications by the Social Services Department of a well-known Hospital (University of Chicago at Chicago), our family was forced to make an unplanned and rushed hospice decision without notice. On June 14th, Ms. Taylor Stateman patiently answered all of my hurried questions with great care. Upon the unannounced arrival of my sister, Cheryl Peterson, she was placed in a two-person room. Cheryl was discharged, placed in an ambulance unconscious and transported to Generations without medicine or instructions for her care. As we pained over this fact, the nursing staff stepped in and assured me and my other sibling, our sister would be cared for through the night. Upon arrival the next morning, we were deeply disturbed that the Hospice Provider we were forced to go with, had not made the proper calls to expeditiously get Cheryl's medicine that would provide comfort nor were they onsite. Based on a lack of responsiveness, we requested from the staff, an immediate recommendation for an alternative Hospice Provider. Vitas Healthcare was recommended based on my questions. I would be remised if I didn't share what I believe is an example of this organization's commitment to excellence. During my initial visit, I witnessed a female staff member hug a distressed patient. The CNA hugged and re-assured the patient who appeared comforted. I later witnessed a male CNA upon request, hug a 102-year-old reside. So powerful to me, I shared this with the Head Nurse and commended them for encouraging their staff to show affection to patients that may not have anyone. To ensure the comfort and care of our sister, we terminated the services of the first Hospice Provider and after meeting with Vitas Health Care Representatives, we changed Hospice Providers. Between the Vitas and Generation's Staff, a decision was quickly made to move Cheryl to a private room with dedicated 24 hour around the clock CNAs to care for her. This decision became critical to the family. We were able to privately spend Cheryl last days with family near and far. On June 19th at 8:09am, we received a call that our beloved sister, Cheryl Ann Peterson had transitioned. As we arrived at the facility, we were met by staff and walked around to Cheryl's Room. The assigned CNA was there with her. As we painfully said our last good-byes, we found profound comfort in knowing, Cheryl was not alone when she transitioned. The decisions that were made by Vitas Healthcare and Generations at Applewood Staff will forever have an eternal impact on my family. For all of the professional care, love, compassion, decisive decision making and overall level of excellence, the entire Peterson Family and Friends say, Thank you from the bottom of our collective hearts. My dad had been there for four months and I am truly happy with the care he got, very compassionate staff, and the place is always kept clean. Activities provided daily for the residents. Communication with staff is great, they always call me with any changes or problems. So glad I brought him here. He, himself said he liked this place better then when he was in the assisted living facility. He became very ill and passed away first week of May and the staff was very helpful and compassionate during his last days. I would definitely bring my loved one here, speaking from experience, the staff is always willing to work with the family and do whatever they can. read more
