I've been coming to this office for years now and have always felt like a valued customer. I recently took my prescription to Costco (their lenses cost significantly less than the over $500 I was quoted at Generations) however Costco's lenses have got me feeling cross-eyed with pain in my left eye. I called Generations to see if I can have my exam redone to make sure my prescription is accurate and Sandra told me I'd have to pay for it again (as my exam was done back in March). I no longer feel like a valued patient because I was ready to purchase my lenses from Generations as I always have as long as my prescription was right. Helpful staff, family friendly, and great with kids! The name "Generations" sums up why I am giving a great review, my whole family 3 generations goes here and everyone has been well taken care of. They also have done some fun kid friendly events over the holidays!! From the friendly staff to the large selection of frames to choose from. Only negative thing is scheduling, due to Covid you can't just come in and try on glasses. Only certain times are set aside weekly and they book up quickly. 2 years ago I left a 5 star review and I am very saddened to now leave a 2 star review. I'd leave no stars for my frustration and this review BUT because the Dr's have always been incredible I felt it was just to at least leave a star per Dr we've seen in the past. We've been going to this office for years. I called to obtain an appointment for my son whose frames had snapped at the temple. This office fixed them a month or so ago and they snapped in the same exact spot. Not to mention it took many weeks to receive them back from being sent off? Or in-house repaired? Not sure. As it was time to have eye exams anyway, I decided to call and book an appt. I am deeply, deeply saddened that the office staff refused and were unwilling to find a compromise to our special needs. If a hospital can accommodate my special needs, I'm pretty certain an eye clinic can. Just saying. I expressed my disappointment and I was asked, So you want to cancel your appointment? Yes, absolutely I do. I'll find a new place that cares about every client and their needs. This office understood the urgency due to my son needing his vision and glasses and did nothing to attempt to find a workaround or accommodate in any manner. Sadly, as much as we enjoyed the Dr's and their care - the lack of care and lack of want or ability to see someone with a need and understanding the special requests were something that is a disability!!! is discriminatory and disappointing. It's hard enough to live every day feeling caged and judged for something you cannot help and being treated as if it's a choice is worse. However, I will say. This office and their choices prompted me to look for another office. The office that agreed to see me and accommodate our special needs turned out to be OUTSTANDING. So I guess my two star reviews is a thank you. Your lack of service was a blessing in disguise. I have found a new place that gives superior service and that is not a slight - they were amazing! As a brand new patient who has never called or had a visit with this new office - that speaks volumes. I could see making accommodations for long-time clients but they were caring, understanding, and took care of our urgency with compassion and quality care. Lesson to self and others: If one place won't assist you, perhaps a better place is waiting to accept you. To the Dr's at Generations - thank you for the years of service you did provide my family: you are wonderful and we loved you. We are sad to leave your business but we were left without a choice. Dr. I is great and so are her helpers. I learned something new about my eyes and got to see pictures of them! Also, they have so many different frames for kids. Usually at other places I don't have a lot to choose from! I got awesome glasses ! - Victoria - 9 yrs old The staff really is amazing. Dr. I took her time to properly explain things to me (the appointment was for myself and my daughter). I appreciate your response but now I can't help but feel insulted. I know my benefits. What was explained to me by your staff was not right. I don't care what's typical or atypical. Your staff should've given me the correct information regarding my insurance. Period. Do they just tell patients what's typical, or do they actually look it up? I understand that mistakes happen. But in this case, I was told TWICE (on two different occasions) that I only get lenses and frames once every other year.. when I actually get TWO PER YEAR. Maybe you should retrain your staff instead of insinuating that your patients are the ones who are wrong. PHOTO ADDED: Here is the proof since you are obviously questioning me. A few years ago, my coverage from my previous insurance plan ended and I realized I wanted to continue to go somewhere I felt safe and I trusted. I have worn glasses since I was in fifth grade and contacts since eighth. It is safe to say, I empathized with Scooby-Doo's Velma more than your average 90's kid would and have taken my eyes quite seriously. They are my only real physical weakness and with these sentiments, I would like to share my story with those folks who too rely on their glasses/contacts as their trusty steeds of world navigation. As you know, eyes are kind of important and our vision really is something we often take for granted. With that, I owe myself a lot more credit than I give and if you too think something is wrong, you very well might be right and your doubts should never be dismissed as paranoia. Now, I am a huge advocate for local businesses and this was something I was conscious of when I first began searching for a new optometrist. My previous practitioner told me I could go anywhere for a reasonably priced eye exam, but I still wanted to go to a more reassuring professional who would give me their time as she has all these years. Enter Generations Family Optometry, here was a new business with a cute story and really everything I sought in an eye doctor. When I walked in, they had the most adorable optometry related decor. Dr. Ibanez was sweet and had adorable eyeglass jewelry matching her role as my newfound optometrist. She took her time and I was relieved I was in good hands. This was going to be my new eye doctor for hopefully the rest of my life--generations to come if you will. SIKE Fast forward to this year, I call in because "switching to a new system" is a euphemism for, we have excuses for not communicating with our patients along with a few other "quirks". I notice my exam is much more brief. Once I get my glasses, Aurelia tells me she will adjust them only to come back saying they're unadjustable (if I read a previous bad review, I would have a better idea why). My contact prescription was marked down as void the same day it was dated--which my contact lenses merchant found disconcerting. Further, I was constantly invalidated over the phone with concerns about my updated glasses. Though I have never experienced being told it would take "two weeks to adjust" to my new prescription from any optometrist before, I comply. After all, these are the experts right? Headaches, double vision, trouble readjusting back to my contact lenses over three weeks later, and not having the heart to call only to be met again with, "it's expected" or "Oh, I think I know who you are, you're the one with a the strong prescription aren't you?" I decide I'm going to gather up my information and do some digging. I go to my old office, I get my old prescription, bring all the details, and I have them look at my new glasses. The technician was puzzled, "This is very weird. Everything is completely different and you should go back." Dear, I wish she knew what I had been through the last few weeks. I go back to Generations one last time, where I walk in, I say hello. I am met with Amelia lifting an index finger to shush me on call, before Aurelia walks up to me, asks me what she can help me with as Dr. Ibanez is standing two yards away moving boxes by the frames. I mention, I simply want a copy of all my records which I later receive after Dr. Ibanez nervously messes up twice before finally transcribing it onto the back of a sheet of paper. I leave with my goodbye met with silence and no eye contact. But, this story ends on a positive note. I show up in the waiting room of my old doctor. It's like the movies, "You!", she smiles, "Do you have your old insurance again?" If only, I had that reason to see her--my regular reason--why didn't I just pay out of pocket with her the first time? Sometimes, I'm just a dork. My old doctor checks my eyes, I leave her with a hug, and healthy tears well up in my astigmatic Velma eyes. I am happy to confirm, I will be getting glasses I can actually use again in the next week. Meanwhile, here I have a little baggie of lenses I have nothing to do with sans see through bullshit. I do not want my eyes checked again with another wonky prescription, I do not want to be dismissed as a psychopath, I do not want to be dehumanized, I do not want another letter sent to my home with the same history you repeat to me in person hand signed with your fears and insecurity as a new optometrist. I want you to listen to your patients and realize your staff can make mistakes as can you. It is sad because I really did like you, my siblings and friends would probably have come to you too, but they are worth more than subpar service. We are worth much more than the optometry memorabilia you use as sad propaganda to cloak your paltry modes of care. Perhaps, this is the kind of public vs. private forms of health care my professors analyze and I study as an undergraduate. read more

Super disappointed!!! The front office customer service was poor to say the least. Had to listen to the receptionists personal phone call while I waited for my son who was having an eye exam. The lady who went over the insurance for the contacts and glasses was beyond clueless. She was obviously new and way over her head. The doctor which was good advised my son not wear contacts for a few days so I asked if I could pay to rush the glasses since he would need them so his eye irrational would get better. We used the same frames. Both lady's assured me that they would be sent to a local lab and be ready the following day. Which would've been Friday. I didn't receive a call to tell me that not only would the glasses be sent to Sacramento due to the way the lady used my insurance also that they wouldn't be back til mid week the following week. Wow zero communication!! I called Monday to get the receptionist to tell me the glasses went on not be ready til wed or Thursday. She wasn't apologetic instead she told me that she wasn't the one who helped me. I did finally get my sons glasses on Tuesday only 5 days later.
