You have to understand that my mom was EXIGENT about not getting a pair of glasses after her cataract surgery a few years back. She was so adamant, we had to pay extra for the fancy lenses to be put in her eyes at the time of the surgery. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE when my parents called me after their appointment GUSHING about Dr. Garrett and how my mom had also gotten a pair of glasses ordered! Understand that I have been BEGGING her to get glasses for years after her surgery and, somehow, this young man was able to manage what I had thought to be impossible. They gushed about how thorough he was with them. They gushed about how, even though my parents are ESL, he somehow managed helping them understand the findings/recommendations of the visit w/o an interpreter (which is usually me). AND THEN.....he recommended some eye drops to my mom who shares Central Valley dry eye issues with me. So, I ended up with the same eye drops I have been using for the last few weeks and they have been AMAZING for me. So...my parents glasses arrive and a complimentary blue cleaning cloth also arrives...one side has grippies so that your fingers don't slip against the cloth as you clean your glasses! TRULY....thank you for addressing the smallest things. For those of you out there who knows how difficult it can be to manage a set of aging parents, this has been a true blessing. read more

I have been going to this place for my eye care over 30yrs and when I went to pick up my glasses because they told me about 6 months ago that my insurance would not pay for my glasses until June and when I went back to them in June they told me that they were not going to give me the glasses because I was supposed to go to another doctor to get my cataracts fixed and I tried to tell them that they were wrong because I had my cataracts fixed when I was 25 years old and cataracts are not able to come back when I now have artificial lenses in my eyes and then the manager told me that she was feeling threatened by me because of the way I was looking at her which made no sense because a look isn't a threat I told her then that's when she said I think you should leave because they don't take my insurance anymore and we don't like your kind here I asked her what do you mean my kind and that's when she bent her wrist down and said that kind which was the the way gays do when they have limp wrists read more

-5 stars. Staff were polite and the doctor seemed competent, but the service failed badly. I spent over $1500 on glasses and contacts for my son, who depends on them for the most basic of functions. I was told that the contacts would arrive in about a week. After almost 3 weeks with no update, I called and was told the order had never been placed. No one reached out, no accountability, and no meaningful apology was offered just excuses. This was an unacceptable delay in necessary care for my son to the point that I am livid. Because of this gross negligence I will never be returning and will be seeking care elsewhere. I have never written a review in my life but I've never been this mad about horrible care before. I will be recommending others to do the same as me and go somewhere else. For what it's worth I just used 1800-contacts with my prescription and received them the next day at a greatly reduced cost. I expected better reliability, follow though and care for my son from my in person provider but was grossly disappointed. read more

SOME of the staff are incompetent and don't listen. Most recently, they've "made" my glasses twice and was finally able to wear them, but now the prescription has screwed up the vision I have without wearing them. I was always able to see distance and close up without my glasses due to cateract surgery about 10 years ago. I had not had this problem before; there is something wrong with these glasses. I'm going to be bringing them back because they never were dark enough. but now I'm hoping they'll change them to my prior prescription, which worked great. The only I went in was because I felt I should to take care of my 78-year-old eyes, but $1000 later I have a pair of glasses that LOOK great, but are screwing up my vision because I can't read the screen on my phone when not wearing them anymore, which I always was able to do...very weird. I noticed when they were measuring my vision on those machines that they quit when the image was not yet clear. They had never done that before. In the past, they would only be done when the image was perfectly clear. BUT I thought they knew what they were doing...new staff. I guess I was too trusting. read more

He we go. Stay away from here. On December 3 I went to get eyes checked and to get a new pair of Ray ban wafer. I asked if they took my insurance and they said yes.The lady's there were kinda rude, one red flag, Nobody smiled in the office or the people that helped me. So now I have to say that the only person that smiled at all was the guy that did my exam. Then I asked if he could do some additional tests which I said yes, my insurance is paying for it. After the procedure which I thought was weird, a lady took me to a table where she asked me what kind of glasses I wanted to get. I told her the one's I have on, my Ray-Ban glasses that has Ray-ban p on the lens.She said that they have their own in-house where they do your glasses. I told her that they have to send in the prescription order so they get Ray-Ban do the lenses. Nobody else can put ray ban logo on their lenses. She never smiled and when she left I looked a round and nobody was smiling. The only people who was smiling was a family who had kids with them. About a half a hour later, she came back with the paperwork and said that it was going to be $298.00. I thought that something is not right. I asked her about the bill and she said that my insurance would only cover so much. So I told her hay what do you know I have a copy of my insurance policy. She looked up surprised that I had it. So she takes it up to the office and comes back 25 minutes later and comes back with a different price. Now this is the second red flag, now the price is $213.00. Wow what a difference in price. I would have had to pay the whole amount that's if I didn't have a copy of my plan. Third red flag was came in for the time frame in which they were going to be ready. The lady said a week and a half. I told her that needed them by Christmas. No problem she said l. Well she took up to pay my bill. I asked the lady who took my money the time frame on which I could expect them. Now she said two weeks. Another red flag. I call two weeks later and she said that the frames haven't came in yet. Ok, I asked when she said to check back later this week. Now I worried that that will not be ready by Christmas. I waited another week call to see if they were ready. Not yet said again. Call you when they're ready. I told her that Christmas is next week and I'm leaving on Tuesday for Christmas. She said she would call me when they came in. Once again. Now I'm furious that they haven't came in yet. I got a call on Thursday morning saying that they came in and they are in the laboratory getting the lenses put in them and should have them ready by next week. Wow so not Christmas. Now I'm having dreams that when I go to pick them up, the logo Ray- Ban p won't be on the lenses. Four days goes by and Monday before Christmas Eve saying that they are ready to be picked up. So now I'm getting ready to head there and pick them up. Got there again nobody smiled when I told the lady I was there to pick up my glasses. A lady came and took me back and set me at a table. I'm hoping that I was wrong about them, but no I wasn't. She came back and she sat down and took them out and put them on the table. I looked and sure enough they did not have any logo on the lenses. They put their cheap lens in the frame and thought that I would accept them. Now I was right they will do anything to make a buck off of me and others. Now some many red flags here I can't believe it. So when I told her that I'm not excepting them because there were no logo on the lenses. She brought them back to see what she could do. 40 minutes later she comes back and says they need to send them in to ray ban and won't be getting them until after the holidays. I'm really mad because they lied to me to many times, to many red flags. So I just got them back on the 14 of January a month and a half later I get my sunglasses. This place is a joke. Buyers beware. Know your policies and amount that they cover or they will take your money and you will never now the difference. Not a friendly place. Which feels discriminatory considering they have it listed on their site. Having vision insurance is a plus. Especially if you are not blessed with 20/20 vision (unaided) like moi. I wanted to find an optometrist that was closer to home. Driving while your eyes are dilated (especially down 99) is NOT a good idea. I received a rec from a very reliable source about Modesto Optometric Vision Center. I called and made an appointment to get my peepers checked. The office is quite posh inside. Comfy couches and chairs with a nice selection of mags while you wait for your name to be called. My appointment was with Dr. Ed Elliott. He has been an optometrist for many years so I felt that my eyes were going to get a thorough checkup. All of the staff that I encountered were very friendly and professional. My eyes were put through many tests (peripheral vision, acuity, photos, etc.). I appreciated the fact that Dr. Ed really took the time to explain my test results. Who knew that your eyes are more individual than fingerprints? Since my vision has changed a bit, a new prescription was written. Time for new glasses! The selection? Wonderful! I chose a new pair of kate spade (lower case of course) tortoiseshell specs (for distance) and a pair of Versace (not Ver-sayce, ahem Showgirls) sunglasses. I am eagerly awaiting a call to inform me when my glasses are ready for pickup! read more

BUYER BEWARE!!. Choose your glasses Wisely because they will not give you a refund if you buy and change your mind nor will they tell you that a refund will be given. Per Dr recommendation , I chose Progressive Lenses , paid $190 with VSP however after trying for 7 days, this did not work for me. The tech told me that I could bring them back and will be able to change ,which I did. It was exchanged for non Progressive lenses and I asked for a refund as I do have insurance and was told " NO"!. - when I asked what it would have cost me had I not chosen Progressive Lenses , I was quoted 2 different prices and it was so much less than the $190 that I paid. The poor techs did not know how to answer my refund question. They seemed very uncomfortable as they have to follow unethical company policies. I asked for the manager who also told me a lesser amount but straight up told me NO REFUND! I asked if I could get a 2nd pair of lenses for Night Glare and was told to pay additional $76,,SMHHHH Where's the Integrity-totally Unethical practice. * definitely reporting to Better Business Bureau. I read a couple other reviews of customers who went through the same issue.I wish I had read them before I went in. read more

The office staff here is extremely rude. The assistants that help do the exams are not trained very well and don't seem to know what they are doing. On our last visit, we were helped by Dr. Elliot's aid , Marie or Maria and she was exceptional. I told the doctor (Dr. Jung sp ?) that she needs to be the trainer for her staff as Marie works for Dr. Elliot. This place likes to nickel and dime you for everything! If my insurance doesn't cover it, I don't want it done. They suggested several tests which ended up coming out of my pocket. Also, they suggest the progressive lenses that a nearsighted person would wear all of the time for far away and then clear at the bottom to read!! These are absolutely unbearable and of course, I was charged extra for something I didn't want. I would not recommend this place. I would, however, highly recommend Dr. Cecelia Tong. She is a very thorough optometrist and does an excellent job. Dr. Elliot, it is your employee, Marie or Maria that needs to train your office staff. Your front office staff is very rude. It was suggested that I try the progressive glasses for a nearsighted person. I was concerned about the known dizziness these glasses cause for a period of time while you adjust. She told me I could return them and have the progression part removed! I paid $179 for this. I then returned them and had the progression removed!! I was not refunded the $179 either, which is fine. I feel and believe I was talked into trying these progressive lenses. My daughter was at the table with us and heard the conversation. You seem to have a standard response to unhappy customers. I am a white senior citizen female on government subsidized health insurance. On June 10, 2020 I called Mr. Elliot's office to make an appointment for a routine eye exam and was scheduled for July 20, 2020. On July 16, 2020 I received a phone call from Mr. Elliots office informing me that my appointment was cancelled. Upon inquiring why, I was told the doctor no longer wants to see low income individuals. Wow! I am back in Modesto after 15 yrs due to family situation and I have been going to Dr. Eliott Sr. when I used to live here. I decided to use his services even after learning that he is no longer in practice. On 4/11/22, I had an appt. w/ Dr. Garrett Elliott. The receptionist was fine however, the young lady wearing glasses and with straggly, unkept, long dark hair who took me in and start the procedure did not even give a greeting. From there, it got worse. She started telling me about a charge on one of the tests and said this was related to me when I had my last exam - 2 yrs. ago. I told her- unfortunately I don't remember - she then started with a superiorial attitude !! She responded - well, I'll tell you with an abrasive tone!. From there, she never spoked to me in a friendly manner - she was very robotic and have a very unpleasant personality. The last straw was when I finally received a copy of my prescription glasses for both reading & distance -- I asked her which prescription is for reading and which is for distance! She said - just read ! OMG - what an attitude ! Knowing that I dont have my glasses to see the paper description, she eventually did not acknowledge my situation and abruptly told me to look at the paper. I am floored !!!! She had a super, disgusting rude, arrogant manner in customer service especially for elders like me!!! She may be related to the owners; but she does not need to be working in an environment that caters to mature people who have morals & values a friendly, warm customer service. I told the receptionist that I dont want to see her when I come back BUT I have decided to not use the services of Dr. Elliott because of this rude girl - I think she goes by the name TAYLOR! I know I have the choice to choose my own doctor but i JUST WANT TO REPORT THAT customer service is definitely out of her parameters - maybe because she's still immature !!! UPDATE: REFUSED TO ISSUE MY GLASSES! I called MVOC to ask if my glasses were ready. I owed $39 And some change and was going to pay it when I picked up my glasses ( and never return to again) I was placed on hold. The office manager got on the line and told my they would not be issuing me my glasses. When I told her I paid $200 she informed me they would refund my money. WHY? Let me guess. You didn't like my yelp review. I didn't like missing 3 days of work for a staph infection. I have been going to Modesto Optometric Vision Center since I was about 10-years-old. I am now 50-years-old. I have never had any problems with them whatsoever and can remember always being treated with respect by the older Dr. Elliot, since I was a wee boy. But, after this last debacle with MOVC, I don't think I'm ever going to go back there again. Recently I had decided that I wanted to try contact lenses out, as I have never had them in the past, and always just wore my glasses. I don't know about everyone else, but for me sticking a foreign object in my eye was not something that came natural to me. As a first time contact lens user I was required to insert and remove my contacts a total of 3 times, before my optometrist would give a prescription out for them. This was a very frustrating process for me, and I could see that it was even more frustrating for lab assistant girl who was monitoring my progress. Which in turn elevated my anxiety and frustration even further. She seemed to make no effort to try and relax me and was certainly not calm or sympathetic to my plight. I almost felt as though, she was the customer and I was the assistant because she was so impatient and annoyed with my slow process. Eventually I gave up as I didn't think things would get any bette, and then made an appointment for another fitting. At the next fitting it was again the same assistant and my anxiety instantaly skyrocketed at her being my assistant again. Therefore I just told her I didn't think right now would be a good time and made arrangements to come back a 3rd time. Although on this 4th visit, I was now informed by the rude and condescending desk attendant that this would be my last try, as you are only allotted 3 attempts. Never before had any of the employees mentioned this to me previously, as I would have made sure that I got them all in the first time. Now knowing that my $180 fee would be wasted for bill. Nonetheless this time I made damn sure I got them in, knowing my money was now on the line. But, not before the optometrist came in and tried to persuade me into giving up my contact lens endeavo, and that I could apply that money to a pair of glasses. I already had two nice pairs of glasses and really didn't want anymor. Especially since I came in for contacts, not more glasses. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this world that has trouble doing things the first time. I didn't learn how to drive a stick shift the first time I tried, and why would this be any different. But I guess the employees there were able to succeed at everything they ever did the first time they tried to do it. And I'm just a contact lens reject. Also, the condescending and arrogant manner that they treated me with, was very unprofessional and disrespectful. So I guess they have so many customers that they don't need me anymore since they act like that. And I have no problem acquiescing to their desire for less customers. Although I would like to say that the older Dr. Elliot was always a gentleman and professional with me before he retired. Or is rudeness and disrespect in vogue these days. read more

We've been having a really hard time finding a good optometrist that can help my daughter with her eye glasses. I was so happy I found MOVC and the help from Hannah and Eddie have been amazing. They've been on top of getting my daughters eye glasses square away after them being backed order then out of stock . They are great on communicating with their patients. Wanted to first say that Dr. Elliot Sr. has been our doctor for more than 15 years and we think he's amazing. Unfortunately he's retiring and that love we have is gone because the staff is rude. I called to see if I could understand my script because it had numbers that didn't fit the website I was ordering on and the staff I spoke to was rude because I was ordering off a website and not through them. Her response was that's why we recommend you order through us and not she didn't want to help me at all. Tried to get me to buy from them with a discount but I explained that my glasses never qualify. She decided to hang up in my ear! I understand that's how they make their money is through glasses and not the check-up, but their glasses are very expensive for what I need. We did buy our regular glasses on last appointment, we were needing sun glasses that were inexpensive.. This was not the first rude encounter we've had with the staff. The girl that needs to check people at the door before entering is always rude, never smiles and greets people like they're bothering her. Now we're going to find a different eye doctor and hope for friendlier service! I know it sounds like a Karen, but people need feed back to help find better service. I had a pair of eye glasses that I purchased from Modesto Optometric Vision Center about 5 years ago. I loved them until I accidentally stepped on them. They took much abuse prior but I guess my foot was the final straw. I brought the damage frame to this place without any hope that they would be able to fix them. They took me inside in less than 2 minutes and stared working on. My glasses right away. I'm really bad with names but I think the person that worked on my glasses was either Ebbie, Gabbie or something like that; just check at the front desk. Long story short, she was able to perform a miracle and fix my glasses as they were new! When I came in, I did not have any hope. But when I left I was truly amazed with their service. By the way, since I was their prior customer, all that work was done for free and with amazing attitude. I know for sure that most other places would have charge $479 for new frame. I was very disappointed my last visit after 45+ years of seeing Dr. Elliot Sr. I had to see a new optometrist because my VSP plan had changed. I was rushed through didn't get the right prescription on my lenses, it looks like Dr. Elliot Jr. is taking over the office I guess this is what the younger generation called progress, I will not be going back I can get the same service at Target and it costs a lot less. read more

I am blessed beyond belief to have gotten the referral to Modesto Optometric about fifteen years ago. Both my husband and I are grateful patients. At our ages, we book our eye exams together and go out for lunch after at one the great restaurants right nearby. It's a date! All of the staff is what really makes this office such a step above all others in our area. Miss Edie is the Optician sent by God to care so lovingly for all her clients. My husband and I both have difficult corrections and longstanding health issues. Yet, through our ongoing care at MOVC we see great, and in stylish glasses.
