I love this thrift store but it's a little pricey? I bought a skirt for $8.00 and a turtle neck for $9.00. For a thrift store that seems like a bit much? I could go to another one (like Texas Thrift) and get the same things for max $5.00 each but oh well. The interior was so nice and organized which is something you rarely see from a thrift store. If you're looking to save money by thrifting this is not the place to go. They are high for a secondhand store. It's in a rich neighborhood, so you'll find nice stuff but I guess for being in that neighborhood they adjust the prices to be on the higher end. Honestly, it's worth buying new clothes, it's even cheaper at times and better quality. If you're doing it for environmental purposes for all means buy these clothes that are only a couple of bucks from the "new" price. I'm glad I found this place! We were on the hunt for picture frames on all styles and been to multiple places before this stop. They have a decent clothes section and the furniture was in good shop. But.....their frame selection was JACKPOT! To top it off they had 1/2 wall decor when we went, so even better! Very reasonable prices! I got a really big mirror and about 10-15 frames for $50! The store volunteers were helpful and nice! People were constantly dropping off donations! I saw 4 people drop off car fulls just while I was waiting for my husband to bring the truck around. Only downside is, when busy, the parking lot fills quick. We had to park down the street and walk to....totally worth it though! Great thrift store. Excellently organized. Clean. Their selection of men's clothing is incomparable to anything else I've seen in DFW (thanks to being in Oak Lawn? :) ) Prices are very good. Most shirts that I purchased were between $8-$9 dollar range, all name brand: Brooks Brothers, Gap/ Banana Republic, Jos. A Bank, etc.; very few lesser quality (Merona and WalMart'y brands). Everything that I came across was in very good condition, or better. We came on a weekday, around 11 and parking was plentiful (saw another review complaining of weekend parking). This is by far the best thrift store I've ever been to. It's super organized, an excellent selection of what i am looking for (kids clothes and women's tops), and the prices are GReAT! Some prices are higher than Goodwill but the ability to find them more easily makes it worth it! Tops are arranged by type, size, then color. Great brands, great condition. I went two days in a row, i was so excited about the store! Even found a drinking glass for 50 cents to replace the one i accidentally broke last week. Exact same style. This place is a 20-25 minute drive for me but I'll be adding it into the rotation!! read more

Great level of product (they have really generous donors and a great relationship with the community), extremely clean and well-organized, and very reasonably prices for the level of quality. Think thrift store prices at (mostly) resale/consignment level product. Every single employee and volunteer in the place was chatty, friendly, and helpful. On top of everything else great about this place, Genesis is a phenomenal organization! I do just want to say that while the women's section is huge and has a ton of great finds, the men's section is pretty small. Still the same level of quality to be found, though. read more

Love every visit to Genesis! Their regular prices are very reasonable - usually around $5-15 for each item - and they often have specials for holidays where it'll be half off all blouses or something like that. They have a mix of items like furniture, books, bags, but their main focus is clothes/shoes. The women's selection is larger but they have a decently sized men's section too. Each time I find some nice option from random and semi-designer brands like Ralph Lauren, Steve Madden, and Express. In fact on my last visit I got items from all three of these designers - a tank top, summer wedges, and a business professional blazer. All that and top and dress for under $50. The selection is always amazing and the staff are friendly. Only challenge is finding parking but if you look around there is always street parking. I absolutely love this store! It's by far the best collection for the best price in the city. It's super well organized and clean. Lots of different styles and plenty of stuff in varying sizes. The staff are helpful and nice if you need them, but they mostly leave you alone (which I prefer). There are 3 dressing rooms, and the wait is typically not bad, if there is one at all. Thrift store shopping is one of my favorite things, so I've been to them all over Dallas. This one is number 1, hands down! read more

This place is terrible. 1. NO RESTROOMS. Really? You benefit a women's shelter? Women typically need to pee when they shop. What about pregnant women?! 2. EXPENSIVE. Go ahead and WORK finding your purchase, but don't expect to save much money. 3. RUDE EMPLOYEES 4. TINIEST DRESSING ROOMS EVER. If you are ok with getting a good look at the clothes you want to overpay for with the mirror that is two inches from your face (and dirty) then come here. 5.UNORGANIZED. I still don't know how the shoes were organized. At that point I just wanted out! I think it was all by color and not size, which makes no sense. I am not going to go shop for something by its color--I need to know its in my size first! 6.PANTS are hung in the most obnoxious way where the waistband is folded over. SO you have to pull it off the hanger to get an idea if the item might fit or even how the leg is supposed to look. I saw many pants that were hung so tight this way that the hanger clamp had damaged the fabric. 7.ALMOST everything is STAINED. YEAH PASS. What a waste of time. Never again. Genesis thrift store supports battered woman have the ability to get back on there feet after fleeing a bad situation. I knew that proceeds benefited the non-profit but I recently found out that the woman part of Genesis program actually get to shop for free at the Thrift Store. It warmed my heart knowing that maybe some of the nice business clothes I was donating may help dress a woman for an interview to get back on her feet. Also, the hours and drop off are super easy. You pull in and there are many volunteers that will help you unload your items out of your car or truck. It makes for a very quick and seamless process. The Thrift Shop is really nicely organized and staged plus reasonably priced. Regardless if you need to donate some items or shop for some new treasures, definitely stop by Genesis Benefit Thrift Store. It's a win-win all around. read more

Damn damn damn I seem to almost always find at least one good thing every time I come here. I will say I always seem to find a solid amount of things here. I have recently been unable to have them barter much on prices. They do turn items that are donated quickly to the floor so people can get all on it. I think women are most likely the real winners here. I always see women walking out with bags of stuff at deep discounts. I have found a few pairs of dress slacks and some shirts. They have tons of ties, jorts and maybe even a few pairs of wranglers if that's your thing. read more

I walked in here with too high of expectations after reading yelp reviews. Everything was organized and the store was laid out nicely, however a few of the employees were rude. One of the employees would not move after I asked her like 5 times and so I finally just pushed past her and she said not a word. The shoes in my size were dingy and hard to drive. I bought a Calvin Klein shirt that I bought without trying on. I found something better, while I was still in the store and she refused to exchange it. (She would have made more money anyway) but she just looked stone faced. The employees were also talking negative about being short staff Point of story. Clothes look worn and dingy, and the vibe is off. I don't recommend you waste your time. So many cute stores around the area, go to them. read more

I was yelled at by one of your employees at the register a short hair lady, short build black female, she pointed at me going off on me, saying you purchased something that was set aside for somebody else. How did I know that something was set aside for somebody ai had not idea there are holds or layaways ...the item was in the store l purchased it with other big items I could not carry checked out so I would not have to carry them around .....she was very unprofessional maybe she is used to talking like that to customers that is not OK, I've been through a lot in life and this week getting out of an abusive relationship not too long ago. The store for was there for me but I never used you guys but I heard about you because you guys said yall were there to help women get help from abusive relationships, but I felt like I was right back to that abusive relations ship once more where I was yelled at pointed mines the weapon to my head my ex had but this is not ol this triggered alot I stood still shocked at the way this employee talk to me with no respect! My friend Carlos told me about this place, so I decided to go check it out one Saturday. After walking in, I was immediately impressed by how the place was organized. I swear, I think one of their employees sneaked into my apartment and looked through my closet for organizational ideas. Coats, jackets, casual shirts, blouses, jeans...all of these were organized neatly by size and color. I have never been to a thrift store that was easy to browse through, which is one of the major things that sets this place apart from others. They have a very big selection of shoes, also organized by color and size. Prices were fairly reasonable. But there were some good finds...I saw one pair of black Manolos for $35. That's pretty damn cheap, if you ask me! I purchased a brand new American Apparel longsleeve for 4 bucks, and I'm pretty happy with it. Be prepared to spend a while here digging. The place is pretty big, so it's important that you allow time for searching, trying on, and deciding! This place is definitely a cut above most thrift stores, and it's worth the time. read more

I cleaned under the shoes. Yep, that was me Saturday tidying up the shoes at Genesis. And yeah, that was me straightening the shirts. And that was mini-me working the dressing rooms. And yeah, that was also me trying on the cute DKNY top and Ralph Lauren capris. The stuff in there is nice. This is where Highland Park must donate all their clothes because there's a ton of nice, designer label, barely worn clothing. Almost everything is freshly dry-cleaned and in great shape. Part of my job was looking for damaged, stained or snagged clothing because it's yanked and marked down. Cute cute stuff. It was hard to do my volunteer gig when all the pretty stuff was distracting me. Our church was doing a "Mission Blitz" this was not in conjunction with any court ordered community service. Here's the deal... you get a good one here and it goes to a really good cause. The Genesis Women's Shelter is 100% funded by this store and private donations. No national funding from turn & burn organizations. They really like to help the individuals through the entire process. Women going through the shelter get to pick out items from this store for free and the rest is sold to fund the shelter. Being situated by Highland Park, there is some pretty good stuff inside. Lots of current books and clothes. If you're looking to get rid of some items THIS is the place to bring it! It's something that's really about OUR community here and helps US locally. FYI: During the latest Ice Storms we had, the actual shelter had a lot of the pipes bust and is in dire need of your help! All the families had to be evacuated from the shelter and repair work is still going on. If you are a charitable person, I can't express how *this* is the one to really get behind. When a classmate in my sewing class told me he found a Chanel jacket here for 8 bucks, I had to check it out. It's in Oak Lawn and receives a lot of donations from affluent Highland Park residents. Vintage clothing has the best examples with which to learn various tailoring techniques. As my classmate said, most garments here are about $8. Not all of it is vintage or high end, but I found a knock-off Yves St. Laurent skirt made of heavy-weight wool tweed fabric that would normally cost about $30/yard. I wanted to re-use the fabric, but I am so impressed with the tailoring, I can't bring myself to take it apart. While mulling it over, I'll have to take another trip back to the Genesis Thrift Store. read more

Holy Grail of thrift stores right here! It's so good I almost don't want to review it because the more people who come here the less likely all the good stuff will still be around next time I go in! But as noted in other reviews, it's for an awesome cause, so get your tail over here! They have an amazing selection of woman's clothes, shoes, and whenever my gay boyfriend and I come here he always finds something he can't live without, so guys can get down at Genesis too! They also have a nice children's selection. Everything they put out is in great condition and almost half of it still has dry cleaner tags on it and usually a notable, if not designer, brand. I'm no brand whore, but I got a pair of lucky jeans here (at least $80 retail) for 4 dollars. Next weekend I went in I scored a pair of Juicy Couture jeans for 7 bucks! Can't beat it yall!! They let you haggle too! Everyone who works there is very nice and will attempt to help you with any request. This place is a little pricey, but it all goes for a good cause! I was surprised to hold in my hands, a pair of leather women flats for $20 that were pretty worn and scuffed up. I wanted to ask them to bring the price down but was stopped by the various signs in the store that said, "Please don't haggle with the cashiers." They have a sweet selection of womens dresses (fun to sexy to it's-business-time), work wear blouses, and a range of skirts. I say it's slightly pricey, because button-ups from Banana Republic and similar end labels are about $9, when you could get them NEW for that price at the actual BR outlet store. I'm all about comparing prices between thrift stores, and I would say that this place prices furniture the lowest, compared to Salvation Army on Harry Hines. There are only two dressing rooms, but the line has never been horrendous. What IS horrendous is the parking. Get there early or scout out the shopping graveyard shifts. Definitely coming back here to see if i can score some jeans and shoes. And I'm going to haggle, since Shelby L. said so. Maybe they tore down the unfair signs? read more

This is a great thrift store. About as good as a thrift store can get. They are small as far as space. I purchased my living room, gently used, white leather couch and matching chair from them. I also got a really nice white frosted glass and bronze standing lamp with hanging glass beads for $30. It looks super pretty in my white themed bedroom. I like that their proceeds go to the abused women and children's shelter. They do a really good job of organizing the clothes by color, but of course you've got to dig for your size. Things may be a tad more expensive here than other thrift stores, but it is higher quality. You've really got to give yourself a full day to dig here. You've also probably got to dedicate the time to coming back multiple times if you're looking to score the elusive name brand scores that some of the other yelpers have listed. They have a small selection of kitchen goods as well as home decorative goods like pictures, frames, mirrors, lamps, etc. There are two-three small bookshelves of books. They have some pretty, high quality jewelry that I always want to look at, but run out of time. The first time I did try to get one, the price was really high, like $15 for a used necklace, so I declined. I've always gone in the afternoon and I always run out of time here and never get to see all the things I wanted to see. I'd advise going during the week in the morning, early afternoon-ish if at all possible. The weekends get really busy with kids running around and waits in the lines. Oh, and the parking lot is really small, and is always full. No worry, just park on the other side by Starbucks. It's also kind of hidden. It's on the other side of (behind) the Starbucks and behind Hollywood feed. read more

This place is awesome with tons of name brand items at rock bottom prices, and the staff are so very kind even with the chaos of dozens of people shopping around.
