Tearing a historic house apart for a remodel is no treat, take it from me. My current home is the…read more4th in a series of old historic homes that I have renovated over the years. But the biggest thrill (and expense) in any of those remodels is the kitchen. If you are looking for a custom kitchen, then look no further than Past Basket. These guys are pros working with you every step of the way overlooking no small detail. Their showroom in Geneva actually is made up of their furniture quality cabinetry so that you can see what kind of potential pieces that you may want in your kitchen. They design and draw working with you and your architect to create a one of a kind design that you will just love to cook in. Since old houses are puzzles- putting a new kitchen in that looks like it had been there since the house was built- but has all the modern amenities was my goal. Dan McFadden and his team at Past Basket created an award winning kitchen for me that looks like it was part of the original house. The glass in the cabinets is wavy and old, the pulls on the doors worn looking, the armoire that hides my refrigerator and the cabinets that hide the modern day appliances all are functional as well as beautiful. No detail is too small for this team- in fact- they did such a good job on the kitchen- I also had them make the cabinetry for the family room as well as the master bathroom. They even solved my makeup lighting problem in the bathroom by creating lights that mimic the makeup counters at fine stores. They are also the only dealer for La Cornue stoves in the area. Once I saw one of these french works of stove art- I just knew it would be the centerpiece for my kitchen. Custom cabinetry may not be for everyone. After all- if you are not planning to stay in your home for awhile to enjoy it- there are certainly less expensive options around. But if you love to cook, and love the feeling of fine furniture no matter what room you are in your home- then go to Past Basket. Even if you only look around to get ideas for the future- or if you are there with your builder to get started- their staff will love to create with you the kitchen of your dreams. I should know. They did it for me

Dan McFadden, the senior designer, was wonderful to work with from the beginning. The project was not one of their biggest, but they treated me as it was huge. He was not only creative but very technically savvy. The design, cabinets and drawers are highly functional and maximes space and storage capacity. Their price was competitive and craftmanship was excellent. My kitchen is incredible. If you are looking for high design, functional high performing kitchen, Past Basket is your place!

His process was straightforward and showcased his 25+ years of experience in building and remodeling. Eric guided us in researching and selecting the trim and other items we wanted to replace or upgrade while he managed all aspects of the project. The scheduling was smooth and efficient, and both he and his subcontractors worked incredibly hard. We liked his work so much that we asked him to rehab the additional apartment in the building that we were going to rent out. He brought the shabby old apartment into the 21st century and we were able to rent it out almost immediately! He did not add on any additional charges and worked with us to stay under budget. If there was any change in the project or unforeseen repairs he consulted us and assured us he would try to stay under budget and he did! He did all the light fixtures, painted the entire apartment, re-grouted the two bathrooms, updated the closets, installed a couple of new appliances all by himself and on time! I don't think it gets better than this. Headache free and totally worth the money.

We had them rework our master bathroom…read more We couldn't be more happy with the results and the five year warranty is something you just don't find anywhere else. Several years ago, our house caught fire by a lightning strike and to make a long story short, the builder hired to rebuild it came up short on the quality and workmanship side of things. My wife and I were not happy with the results they left us with, so we hired a different company to come in and "fix" the bath. I won't name them, but they were even worse than the builders we originally had. So at this point we had an unusable master bath that was worked on twice and cost us thousands of dollars. We found the Kitchen Master and liked what we saw on their web page so we contacted them to help us with our hopeless master bath once and for all. From our first meeting with our designer, Anna, everything just went unbelievably smoothly. She guided us through all of our selection choices and helped us to pick out the items we were on the fence about, right in their showroom. The actual demolition and re-construction work was completed by Josh. We've dealt with quite a few contractors over the years and unfortunately, most of them we were not happy with but Josh was terrific. A professional through and through, he had the knowledge to get the work done quickly and at a high level of quality. Everything that was done, all the tile work, the custom glass shower and the installation of our new vanity counter looks absolutely amazing. His attention to detail was remarkable and the work he did to get things done right, did not go unnoticed by us. Tom our project manager, always kept us up to date with scheduling the work, and was in constant contact with us to let us know what would happen with the job at any given time. He was a great point of contact and never failed to answer our questions and return our calls or emails. We always knew what was happening with our remodel and never felt out of the loop in any way. Everyone we worked with at the Kitchen Master treated us with respect and put us at ease with their knowledge and level of professionalism. From the start we felt like we were in good hands. If and when we decide to remodel another bathroom, we will not hesitate to call on them. It's nice to finally feel like we've found a high quality team to work with that we can trust. Thank you Kitchen Master!

okay, I'll update here since they finally installed the small granite piece for my stove backsplash…read moreand accommodated my request for first thing in the am. The 3 guys who arrived called ahead 20 min, and were super careful to measure thrice and keep measuring and using a level as the piece dried. I felt very confident watching their concern to get the piece on the backsplash in an attractive and straight manner. They could not have been more professional. I'll say it once and say it again: when you deal with the salespeople at The Granite Corporation (that's their real name not "Granite") you kind of doubt that they have a clue about what they're selling. I don't know what will happen and it takes too long for them to finish up a sale, even though they mean well. However, when the measure & install team shows up, those are the people who really know what they're doing. They are top pros. I asked Sam, my sales person, how are they going to make sure the glue holds on a vertical application, and she did not know. I asked her if I should cover my stove, and she said, don't worry (of course, I did). When they showed up, they scored the back of both my backsplash and the new piece, so more glue would be applied. They applied glue all around the perimeter (not visable). They taped the piece in place and I put a spongy rug on my stove (just in case). They said, glue sets in 10 minutes and they held it that long, and it is good to go in a couple hours when I can take off tape. I would have liked to know that there would be a little granite dust in my kitchen ahead of time, to have removed everything from countertops, but they did hold up a vacuum while they scored my backsplash, so I cannot say that I see any dust (besides my own). They scored the new piece outside my house. The treasure here is the cutting, measuring & install team. They are premium craftsmen, very experienced and know how to communicate with the public. They're the ones who should be selling the granite!
