Communication is excellent -- in-person, by telephone, and through the myScripps portal. Located across Torrey Pines Road from the Scripps Torrey Pines campus, the Center itself is state-of-the-art in a smart looking building. The entry and main seating area are sunlit, bright and airy. Receptionists are welcoming and clearly patient-focused. There's no charge for parking. What more can I say? I highly recommend everything about the Scripps Cancer Center.

The care of the patient I was visiting seemed friendly and caring, tending to her pain level needs sensitively. She did have one nurse that she thought was insensitive to her needs and talked to her in a condescending tone. The last straw was when she was made to feel like it her fault that she fell (patient is a fall risk), so she ended up requesting a new nurse and all was great after that.

A hospital is supposed to represent CARE, COMPASSION, and HUMAN DECENCY. Yet somehow management has created an environment where even a grieving family isn't viewed as a family going through unimaginable pain -- they're viewed as another CUSTOMER to charge. Your customers already pay THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for medical care. But apparently there is no point where enough is enough. Even the family members sitting beside someone on their deathbed need to open their wallets just to PARK. How unbelievably cold can you be? Nobody comes to a hospital because they're having a wonderful day. People walk through those doors scared. They receive cancer diagnoses. They undergo surgeries. They watch loved ones suffer. They hear news that changes their lives forever. Some people, like my family, are there to SAY GOODBYE. And apparently management looked at those people and thought: "You know what else they should have to worry about? Paying us to park." That's disgusting. I wasn't thinking about your parking system that day. I was thinking about the fact that someone I loved was DYING. I was thinking about spending whatever time I had left with her. And when I walked back outside after experiencing something that painful, your contribution to that day was a PARKING TICKET waiting for me. Congratulations. You collected your parking revenue. I hope it was worth it. I hope whoever approved these policies can look a grieving husband, wife, mother, father, son, daughter, or family member in the face and explain why squeezing a few additional dollars out of them during one of the darkest days of their lives is necessary. Because I would genuinely love to hear that explanation. You can put the nicest signs on the walls. You can use words like "care," "compassion," and "community" in your advertising. But compassion isn't a slogan. It's how you treat people when they're vulnerable. And this is how you treated my family. There should be SOME places in this world where basic humanity comes before squeezing another dollar out of someone. A HOSPITAL SHOULD BE AT THE VERY TOP OF THAT LIST. I'm sure anyone who has needed an appointment is used to waiting months, which is bad enough. Recently though, including twice this week, we have had UCSD cancel appointments because of THEIR administrative failings. To add salt to the literal wound, they offer makeup appointment months later! We aren't going to these appointments because it's fun. We are going because we have medical issues that impact the length and/or quality of our lives! They are so heartless! Get your act together, UCSD!

Checked in on advice of my Cardiologist on Monday noon about a week ago. Very low heart beat and…read moredropping all over the place. I was checked out by several cardiologist and given a lot of tests and much blood was drawn. After several hours of this activity I was moved upstairs to a room and more tests and X-rays and blood was drawn. Slept well that night and woke up to more of the same and more of the staff Specialty Drs mostly. It was my heart shutting down and stopping at times. By that afternoon 2pm I was in surgery and had a new Pace-Maker. Slept good that night and was at home the next afternoon. Over a week later and I feel grate and love UCSD MS. The way they took care of me was more than I could have asked for and the Drs. And Staff were Excellent and gave me the best of care!j

He told his mom that they are using stem cells now to study how to cure cancer and treat chronic diseases. Most exiciting is that stem cells have shown promise in repairing the damage of those who have lost the ability to walk, such as veteran injuries and spinal cord accidents. Used to be that rich people would go over to Germany to some fancy stem cell clinic. These under-the-radar treatment centers would offer people on their last health legs, stem cell therapy. Well, now here in San Diego, we have the new San Diego Stem Cell Treatment Center. Their website noted that "since 2013, top orthopedic surgeons have been using stem cell therapy to treat patients suffering from arthritis and other orthopaedic conditions." This is the first step in utilizing stem cells for health purposes, while more clinical research is done to see how to treat more complex illnesses like cancer and muscular dystrophy. SD Stem Cell Treatment Center now offers to treat hip, knee, shoulder or back pain by utilizing your own stem cells with minimally invasive procedures. (Probably big needles.) The website states that "Stem cell treatment offers the potential for millions of viable mesenchymal stem cells to differentiate into normal healing tissues and can be injected into painful joints, around painful tendons and ligaments and given as an IV for systemic use." Their stem cell treatments are done on Friday afternoons, which I figure, allows for the patient to use their weekend to rest and recover from the procedure. I called today and asked about what insurance, if any, this new business accepts as I would love some stem cells in my arthritic knees. Unfortunately, and the reason for deducting 1 YELP STAR for this business, is that it is CASH ONLY. And just to begin the treatment process costs $8,000. Which sounds like money well spent but I might have to wait until I hit the lottery to start the stem cells flowing.
