I hate writing negative reviews, but I couldn't have had a worse experience renting for my wedding and I feel it needs to be shared.
TLDR: the staff is nice enough but if you are renting a tuxedo for a formal affair, avoid this place like the plague. I'm sure they're great for suits or maybe women's attire, but not tuxedos.
The staff were all very friendly, and when I registered for tuxedos, they walked me through some style options (lapel type, vest or cummerbund, shoes ect.) Including shoes, the total was ~ $250 PP. I really appreciated that they let the groomsmen come in for fittings or I could send in measurements for the out of towners.
As the wedding approached I realized I was mysteriously muff on details as I discussed with my fiancé and the wedding planner. Geno's sent me home with an order number and not much else. When I called to have some questions answered, I wasn't given much clarity.
Ultimately, I ended up texting with an associate for days trying to find out basic information about what was included in the tuxedo rental. If I hadn't, we likely wouldn't have had studs or cuff links included, and a couple groomsmen would have been without shoes.
Geno's apparently rents a standard tuxedo, that IMO doesn't meet the definition of a tux. Their "tuxedo" rental has multiple issues or features that I feel other customers should be aware of, that were not advertised to me, as you don't get to try on the actual rental model you will be wearing before renting:
-Pants do not have the matching accent fabric/stripes that typically run down the side of tux pants
-Pants have beltloops? One of the major differentiating features between tuxedo pants and slacks is that tux pants do not have belt loops
- The tuxedo shirts are more than less plain dress shirts. They don't have any texture/bibs on the front (pleats, pique, ruffles, ect.)
-The tuxedo shirts are barrel cuffs, not French cuff. While they do have a way to insert cuff-links and studs, they still have all the buttons in place and are not removable, just like a typical dress shirt, not a tuxedo shirt.
Other things to note for renters, you can't rent bracers/suspenders, socks are not included, and pocket squares are extra.
Additionally, when trying on the rentals, my groomsmen had all kinds of issues and were required to drive to the warehouse themselves to get replacements.
When I expressed concerns with the "tuxedo" I was informed that this was their standard tuxedo rental and all that Geno's carried in stock. I was clearly unhappy, with three days to go before my wedding. I expressed multiple times my primary concern was that the tuxedo pants should have a stripe down the side and shouldn't have beltloops.
After being rebuffed multiple times, I was finally informed that that "style" was only in their warehouse because most men chose not to wear it anymore, and they didn't recommend it since the pants were "balloonish" and didn't fit well.
The other wrinkle, was that the tuxedo pants in the warehouse did not match the existing jackets, which were notch lapels for my groomsmen and a shawl collar for me, so all of us would have to switch to peak lapels.
At this point, multiple hours in, my pre-wedding stress got the better of me so I started calling around to see if anyone could rush new rentals in time. I found a couple, but since some of my groomsmen were traveling from out of town and couldn't get fitted in store, I'd have to supply their measurements myself.
No problem, I thought. I'll just get their measurements from Geno's. When I asked for the measurements of the groomsmen who were not in Lexington already, they refused to provide them to me since Geno's knew I was going to a competitor.
After the full day affair, with close-of-business rapidly approaching, I ultimately decided to switch all my groomsmen to the peak lapel tuxedos at Geno's (with the correct pants). I just ate the deposit I paid with Geno's, and paid to FedEx overnight a tuxedo from Men's warehouse that had a matching shawl-collar jacket and tux pants. read more
