My 75-year-old mother underwent necessary brain surgery three weeks ago. Three days before surgery, she had a ground-level fall, tore her rotator cuff, and sustained a small fracture. Because the surgery could not be deferred, she proceeded as planned but required significant care at home afterward. She had been fully independent, and although she lives with my father, the caregiving needs were beyond his comfort level. I was able to help for a few days after her discharge, but it was clear they would need additional support for her to remain safely at home. The hospital nurses were wonderful, but my mom needed assistance even with basic tasks like repositioning in bed and using the restroom, as her left arm was immobilized. Our hospital care coordinator connected us with Amy, the client care manager for Family Matters, who met us at home right away. She performed a thorough evaluation and took the time to understand my parents' needs and preferences. Almost immediately, we were connected with KJ, the Director of Operations, who coordinated the caregiving schedule. She ensured an excellent match with caregivers and that coverage was consistent and reliable. Communication was seamless--KJ was always responsive and proactive with updates, and we never felt out of touch. My mom especially wanted to recognize her primary daytime caregiver, Maria. Maria was attentive, warm, and incredibly experienced, with over 20 years in caregiving. She is also an excellent cook and was especially skilled in helping my mom with more vulnerable tasks like showering. The other caregivers who supported nights and weekends were also wonderful. The team clearly put thought and care into matching personalities and backgrounds, which made a meaningful difference. Over the following weeks, my mom gradually regained her independence, and we were able to scale back care smoothly. The team made adjustments easy and seamless. We would absolutely use Family Matters again. This was our first experience with a caregiving service, and we were initially apprehensive, but they made the entire process easy, supportive, and reassuring. We would use them again in a heartbeat.

Even more challenging is finding caregivers you can truly trust during such a vulnerable stage of life. A very special thank you to Family Matters, and my father's caregiver, Sade. He is under hospice care with advanced dementia, and can barely speak. Sade is consistently patient, and kind, and gives me complete peace of mind whenever she's caring for him. Most importantly, she engages with him and makes him feel seen. This is in sharp contrast to other caregivers we've experienced who are often on their phones and treat him as if he's invisible. I'm also especially grateful for KJ who manages the caregivers and scheduling. While other agencies haven't taken the time to meet my father or me in person, KJ made it a priority to get hands-on training to fully understand my father's caregiving needs. Because of this, she's been able to step in to provide training and support which is a huge godsend given my limited bandwidth. She even proactively revised the caregiving shift note template to make it clearer and more helpful for our caregiving team. Family Matters has truly exceeded our expectations because they understand the real meaning of caregiving. On top of that, their participation in the Veterans Assistance Program, which requires stricter qualifications provides an added layer of confidence and experience.

Our Dad is in hospice. Home Helpers is attentive to our Dad's needs and our requests for monitoring, and quick to address concerns. These aren't babysitters. They take our Dad to activities, engage him with puzzles in his suite, and ensure he is nourished and hydrated. The company is very easy to communicate with and answers my texts almost immediately. We do have instances where a substitute person has to come in because the regular person is unavailable. The company has always found a replacement except for once in the past 5 months. Home Helpers was first vetted by our Dad's retirement facility, and was among several companies we could select help. I see many Home Helper care givers around the facility so I know we are not the only satisfied clients. The services are not inexpensive but the level of care for our Dad and comfort to our family is well worth the price.

The overall experience was very smooth--from meeting the care coordinator Natalie and signing the forms to making final arrangements by text. Everyone here was warm and helpful. A special shoutout to my caregiver, Candy, who was lively and fun. After I got home, I slept for a couple of hours, and when I woke up we chatted--the conversation helped me stay alert and shake off the grogginess from the anesthesia. Being Chinese, Candy understood my needs at home, and that cultural awareness was especially comforting while recovering on my own. Hopefully I won't need surgery again--but if I do, I'll be calling California Seniors Care!

In September 2023 we were blessed to have 2 other caregivers join our team.This allowed me to see another side of Juan Carlos' people skills. The two people that joined our team are skilled and trained working with people in my husband's condition. However every patient is different. Juan, Carlos has done and continues to do an excellent job in training the caregivers how to best work with Wayne. Juan Carlos is very patient and is very mild mannered. This HUB should be replaced by having each and every center be responsible to schedule there own participants. I have oral surgery scheduled now for June 30th, They wanted to get me in the next day to the center so this Enable Dental can start the denture process, without waiting at least 6 weeks for my gums to heal. WTF is wrong with these people. My glasses. They use a mobile service for optometry. This first set of glasses to 10 months to get right, 4 pairs of glasses till correct. 2nd pair of glasses after 1.5 years where a joke. The frames broke while trying to clean the lens in the first 4 hours of having them. A new set was provided after some time, however they had no tint on the lens so they were no use to me. That was awhile ago I told them this, and now I have to see the optometrist to let them know they fucked up yet again. Why make me come in, your fuck up, you fix it. Pretty God darn simple, just tell that company to order the same frame and lens and add tint. But you would rather waste my time and yours over and over again. Get you house in order dammit. What Amanda and now Leticia want is for me to leave WelbeHealth. Well if that's what you want, get me my God damn teeth you promised me while doing the tour back in late 2024. I feel you lied to me and or broke your promise. Please don't ever promise new potential participants anything in the future. Try using words like "We well do our best to help to obtain that", leave the word "promise" out of your mouth. Like I've said, you want me gone, you kick me out or get me my teeth. Incredibly, just a few days before, Sammie's company had stopped by my surgeon's office to introduce themselves. I'm so glad they did! From the instant I contacted them, I knew I was in good hands. They had decades of he;ping post operative patients and clearly knew their stuff. They offered 24-hour care which was incredibly reassuring. I signed up for 1 w4-hour shift and quickly added a second. While we could have managed the medication management and help around the house, it's SO much nicer having someone else do it. All I had to do was focus on recovering and healing. They offer bigger services like dressing changes, medication administration and he;ing with showering (a big deal after intense surgery!) as well as smaller things like cleaning up around the house, small errands and just being there. In other words, they were my angels and exactly what I needed. I loved having them so much that I extended their services for a full 2.5 weeks after my surgery. I didn't need them overnight but they were a game changer during the day. They made the entire process so much better. Their customer service was outstanding.
