I actually tried getting into another clinic first, but they had a long waitlist. Looking back, I'm so thankful that happened because we ended up here instead. In the past year, they've become so much more than just our vet. They never make me feel crazy for bringing up a concern, and they've always been willing to dig deeper instead of sending us home with a "let's just wait and see." When we first started coming here, I didn't even realize how uncomfortable my dog really was. Thanks to this team, he's lost the weight he needed to, finally has medication that keeps his stomach working the way it should, and they trusted me when I felt like one of his teeth was causing him pain. Every step of the way, they've treated him like family. As someone with a reactive dog, having a clinic that my dog actually gets excited to visit is something I never thought I'd say. That alone speaks volumes about the people here ! A huge thank you to Dr. Allison for believing me when I knew his stomach issues were food-related, Dr. Rachel for taking care of an angry tooth, and the amazing techs...Kyla, Amanda, Francesca and everyone else who's loved on our animals every visit. In the nicest way possible, I hope we won't see you as regularly as we have been... but I'm so grateful to know you're here when we do. After 12 years taking our sweet Shih Tzu to them, they refused to credit her account with the $150…read morecost of a procedure (needle biopsy)--I was told it was the only option (our dog has pulmonary hypertension & Dr. Antoniou told me he & her cardiologist were concerned about her survival under anesthesia.) I asked if the mass could be removed with only local anesthesia & he said they don't do that because it's dangerous if the dog moved while the mass is being cut out. So, I said "yes" to the needle biopsy (didn't show malignancy), & was told 90% of these tumors are benign & bring her back if it got bigger. Few weeks later, I made an appointment because it had grown. Then Dr. Rachel was asked if taking a piece of the mass for a biopsy was an option--I didn't think it was because when I was initially told options, her husband did not mention it. She said they could (???) & I just received the results that it is cancer. Not only did I wait weeks until having this done--I was never told about it--but they refuse to credit her account (I didn't even ask for a refund!) with the cost of the procedure; I would've skipped it had I known that a partial biopsy was available. I would've NEVER waited for "it gets bigger" to have it tested. I feel sick thinking of how I trusted this vet. I feel incredibly sad that our sweet dog has cancer, & disappointed & disgusted by their office manager & owners' handling of this situation. My 14 year old dog who had been declining in health was acting very differently one day, enough so to bring him into an emergency vet at night. I was met by Justin at the door for a quick assessment, as I couldn't go into the clinic because of covid regulations. Justin was very compassionate and understanding of my dog's situation, and I felt at ease as I watched them go back into the clinic. I went to sit in my car and wait for the update from inside. My phone rang and It was Dr. Birch on the other end, he said I needed to come inside to talk which I knew meant the worst. Dr. Birch explained to me what was going on inside the abdomen of my dog, how it was affecting his body, and that it was a terminal situation. He still laid out a gradient of options from taking him to a specialist at the U of M to putting him to sleep that night. I was very grateful for his honesty in offering up all the solutions he did. But we both agreed for a 14 year old dog in his situation putting him to sleep was the best possible outcome. I couldn't do it that night without the family saying good bye. The next day I called my normal vet to see if I could take him there for his final appointment, as he'd been going there for the last 7 years and I wanted them to be a part of it. They couldn't, or wouldn't, make time for me and my dog for at least 3 days. This was very disappointing to me. That day I came home from work and my dog had declined further, and I made the decision to bring him in overnight to have him put to sleep. At 10 PM, I was met by Justin again at the door as I carried my dog in. His genuine compassion to my dog again was apparent, but it was also extended towards me as he told me what the process would be. He then took my dog to the back to put a port in his leg for the shots. This was something different from when I've done this before. For me it meant my dog would only be stuck by 1 needle, not the 3 or 4 they actually use. When they came back, Justin put down the plushest fleece blanket on the table I'd ever seen. They then gave me all the alone time I wanted before Dr. Birch came in. Once again Dr. Birch was a true professional explaining to me what was about to happen, and how my dog would react. And he gently petted my dog the whole time to help ease him as I said good bye and he slipped into his sleep. Dr Birch left and they then gave me all the time I wanted alone to say good bye myself. One last time Justin came in offering his condolences and wrapped my dog in that huge soft blanket and took him away. I was offered time to sit in the room as long as I wanted, but all I had to do was simply walk out of the clinic alone. S M A E C thank you for your services, hours, and location. People don't bring their pets to you for the fun regular stuff, it's got to be a whole different world at your clinic from dusk to dawn. I appreciate that to the fullest. Dr. Nolte and her team are the finest veterinary caregivers I could hope for with my furry buddies! My experiences have been consistently caring and mostly professional treatment by them. It's true some new assistants over the years have had steeper customer service learning curves than others. Under Dr. Noltes guidance though they've always picked up on her genuine care for her patients.

We found a stray over Labor Day weekend, and when she went unclaimed we took her into BCAH the week after. We selected BCAH because they had online booking and were open after 5 - with our normal vet, for our two other cats, we have to wait and they don't have evening appointments. During the visit, we expressed that she was a very friendly stray with no known medical history. The vet: 1. Vaccinated the cat 2. Told us to look out for heat, as neither she nor the other vet could find any sign of spaying 3. Told us we should wait to spay the cat, even after I personally expressed I'd rather spay and be safe 4. Did not tell us that she could be pregnant or advise us of any risks related to pregnancy and live vaccines Fast forward a month, you guessed it, our cat was super pregnant. We took her back to BCAH as part of a vaccine booster and were told: 1. She was pregnant 2. She'd been vaccinated with live vaccines, endangering the kittens - but it probably would be fine! (In other words they massively downplayed the risk/their own screw-up) 3. It was "too late" to spay, but how lucky, they have referrals for a clinic that deals with birthing cats and a referral for a shelter specifically dealing with kittens! I spoke with my sister, who is a vet tech, that evening. She expressed outrage, both at the initial poor care/lack of informed consent, and at the claim it was "too late" to spay. So, we took her to our regular vet for a spay consultation and then for a spay 2 days later. It's been a week+ since her spay and she is recovering very well, and thank God, we don't have kittens to deal with. To advise us against spaying in September, fail to inform us the cat might be/probably was pregnant (recall that we told them she was super friendly, that we live in an area with lots of strays, and they couldn't find any sign she'd been spayed: I found out later that this means the cat is very likely pregnant!), and then provide us with no spay resources - to functionally lie, and lead us to believe "it's too late to spay" is an opinion most vets would hold - is totally unacceptable. This is a degree of malfeasance so serious I reported BCAH to the vet board of MN. I am disgusted with a vet practice that thinks nothing of putting at least 2 more kittens into an already burdened adoption system, that thinks kittens potentially having birth defects is no big deal, and that frankly had the nerve to charge us $45 for a visit where they admitted to serious mistakes. When I emailed BCAH expressing my anger at this poor treatment, they refunded me for both visits within 2 hours. But they did not acknowledge their mistakes nor apologize for them. These people should not be practicing vet medicine.

Everyone from the front desk attendants to the vets are incredibly empathetic and take the time to ensure you understand what they are doing and why and are comfortable with the treatment plan when you leave. The doctor didn't know what kennel cough sounded like.Right. I walked out the door after paying $90 again. I received no help at all. I would have had to pay more for that. In both cases the $90 didn't apply to anything but walking in the door. East Lake Animal Clinic is in a low income community and they used to accommodate low-income people. Prices were reasonable and that money went towards a diagnosis and treatment. Not anymore. In the future I will take my cats to the Mission Hospital in Eden Prairie. They're ethical, they make payment arrangements when someone needs that service. They don't rip their customers off. East Lake can't compete anymore.
