My husband had his favorite - a blue cheese burger with French fries. My brother and I decided to go big and order the Black n Blue Burger. He had his blackened - I had mine plain. Both were topped with melted Bleu Cheese Crumbles, Sautéed Onion, Mushrooms and Roasted Red Peppers. We both decided on Sweet Potato Fries with our burgers. The burgers we ordered were cooked and prepared to our specifications and were delicious. The fries were crispy, not greasy, and seasoned perfectly. Both Kelly and Rich took excellent care of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our Burger Night at the Rec Room.

Bouncer at the door checking i.d.'s (saw him turn a couple girls down for having fakes). They serve a larger than standard size bar menu and we tried out several different items as well as cocktails and some craft draft beers. A Blue Hawaiin or Old Fashioned Whiskey cocktail is priced at 9 dollars each, but are served in full size pint glasses! I had a Rec Room Club Sandwich with sweet potato fries (see my pic) and my wife had a grilled Reuben and waffle fries. Both of them were insanely huge! Absolutely do not order an appetizer if you're going to get a sandwich or a burger. I literally could only eat half of my club sandwich and fries and I am generally a big eater. My club sandwich with s.p. fries was 12 bucks and it was a great value. It also tasted great and was made fresh with what seemed like Boar's Head meats, or something of that quality. I was very, very impressed and also quite surprised. It's a bar, so it's not the cleanest place in the world (see their bathrooms), but it's got surprisingly good food. I had a Troeg's IPA and 1 other craft pint (I forget which one) and they were 8 bucks each. I would definitely return here for the same reason...to eat and pre-game a bit before a show next door at The Recher. Note: there's no street parking here, but there's tons of paid parking lots behind here. It's like 5 bucks to park there for 8 hours at night.

It's not unusual to just see a plastic banner advertising NASCAR and Budweiser beer prices hanging above the door to let you know there's a bar inside. This bar also had a sketchy reputation when it originally opened because it looked more like a bar that was built inside someone's garage. It was dirty, had a dingy drop tile ceiling, and was lit only by harsh neon lighting inside. But Clipper Mill has since been remodeled and actually has a cozy little neighborhood bar feel inside now with painted drop tin ceilings, normal lighting, along with the requisite dive bar elements of a pool table, jukebox, keno machine, video poker machine, a few flat screens to watch the game, and a carry out fridges on the wall. They've also got 6 draft beers on tap, cold Natty Boh in a can, and strongly poured cheap drinks. Back when Clipper Mill was still a garage bar, Charm City's own John Water's was spotted here on more than one occasion for their Karaoke Saturday nights. Not sure if he's still stopping by since Clipper Mill got its interior face lift. But the regular crowd here are pretty much ALL regulars, and they seem friendly enough. So don't let the "Bloody Bucket" nickname make you shy away. Stop in, have a cold beer or two, and enjoy another stop on your tour of Balmer dive bars.

It is one of the few bars I have ever walked into where the hostility of the staff towards strangers was so blatant,as if outsider were crashing a private social club. This is the type of establishment that needs to close down. It is flanked on all sides by nice restaurants, craft breweries, and new apartments, and is only a few blocks from The Avenue. Yet, Clipper Mill remains patronized by recalcitrant "hons" who refuse to acknowledge that the neighborhood is changing for the better, and that Jimmy Carter is not still president. Seriously, I think some of the stuff on the walls in there is 40 years old. The place is a microcosm of the "old Bawlmer" attitude still found in some pockets in the city... the people who would rather live in urban decay like Detroit than embrace the change of the city.

MY FRIEND GOT ROOFIED. MY FRIEND GOT ROOFIED. MY FRIEND GOT ROOFIED. There was also very clearly some operation happening outside where "homeless people" that were clearly just grifters kept getting sent to try and hassle people at the front door. I know for a fact that these people weren't actually homeless - as a homeless person wouldn't have left as soon as I looked them in the eye and called them a fake, they would've just called me an asshole and moved on about tryna get by. The fact that people kept fucking off and replaced by new ones everytime I clocked the hustle means I am correct - there was a shakedown operation happening out front. All the while? There was only one security guard - and all he did was check ID's. I'm sure the dude would've done more if he was properly equipped though. Y'all sincerely need to get your shit together. That was fucking awful. If you are a woman, or empathetic - do not come to this establishment. Apparently you do not have a choice in the matter, you will be manipulated somehow.
