If you are looking for a Bro beating, this is your place. However, if you want a place that's safe for children and respects its customers, I would steer you clear. More often than not the banter revolves around lambasting of customers who are not present, topics inappropriate to young ears, or generally unprofessional concerns. Sadly, it is not just the employees who are disrespectful. Now, it may be that I have too high of expectations of a largely overpriced barbershop? ‍ I was a loyal customer for years, stepping through a number of barbers year over year. However, it has clearly gone downhill since the shift in ownership. And such loyalty is no longer deserved or appropriate. I see the work that all of these talented barbers do and I can honestly say it won't matter who you go to, it will always be a professional experience and you will leave feeling happy with the work done. The shop is in a new strip adjacent to Main Street in downtown Kyle and I've seen that they do charitable cuts for kid's prior to the start of school, which is awesome. My son isn't even close to school-aged but I figured I'd give them a shot. I called shortly before coming in for kid's cut ($20) today, waited for about 15 minutes as a walk-in, and my almost 3 year old would not sit still. This was not his first haircut but this was our first experience at this particular barber shop. My son whined and complained about the clippers hurting almost the whole time but Sasha was unwaveringly patient with him. I was not satisfied with the length (too long) and evenness (due to him squirming) after the initial pass, but she went back and corrected everything I was unhappy about. I gave my little guy some Netflix distraction on my phone, and it made all the difference. I left feeling happy about my choice to support a local business, but noted the shop was not held to a certain standard of cleanliness. The bathroom was a bit dirty (specifically the toilet which transferred a little urine and hair to the back of my son's sweatpants), some of the trash bins were overflowing, towel laundry accumulated in a basket in the back of the shop, hair on the floor not cleaned up in between clients; these details make all the difference between a 4 and 5 star establishment. I'm satisfied with our experience over all because my little guy walked out with a good cut. read more

The owner (I don't remember his name) and his cousin were cutting their schedule appointments. The cousins informed me that they were booked for hours but a walk-in barber would come in shortly. Took about an hour but the other Barbers arrived around 11 and did a good job! I will definitely return because of the nice people, skilled barbers and the easy to use website. I'll probably give them a shot with my 2 year old son. My only reason for 4 stars; if you open at 9 shouldn't most of the barbers be at work?? Made an appointment through booksy with John for a fade, walked in maybe 5 minutes early and dude was ready for me. Being a black dude finding a shop that can fade and do clean lines is like finding buried treasure, so I went in assuming I'd get a subpar cut and have to have it cleaned up either myself later on (most likely edge-up) or worst case just clip it all down with a 1 guard and write it off as a loss. He did a legit job, and my hair was grown out and super curled up, came out with crisp lines and faded like a champ. All the dudes in the shop seem like regular shop dudes (yall know what I mean) - so felt at home. Shot the proverbial shiz, got a dope ass cut, will be visiting in a week or two and onwards. I started coming here in November of 19. Luis has always cut my hair and I enjoyed talking with Luis and Chris. I called to get my haircut about 20 minutes ago and Luis was booked up. Not a problem right? Normally it wouldn't be except when I asked if anyone else was available for a cut, the girl who answered the phone says "yeah this is a barber shop" with an extremely bitchy and smart ass tone. I understand business might be good at the moment but with people like this answering the phone, that can change instantaneously. I guess I'll find somewhere else to get my haircut. read more

I schedule appointments because I don't like to wait at barber shops. I go to this barber shop from time to time because I like the owner. This day, I scheduled an appointment at 215p with Jordan. I'm still waiting at 240p. Twenty minutes past my appointed time is unacceptable. Now, my kid will go without a haircut for the weekend because that was the last appointment of the day. I called the owner who wanted to make it right by a free hair cut but that was not my intention. I appreciated it but point being, I'm busy just like you, Jordan. Being good at cutting hair doesn't make you a good barber. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star but its the only way I can write this review. If you respect the way you look or care about who you go give your hard earned money to, do not give these people your business. The last time I got a haircut at this place, Jordan (one of the barbers there and who is the reason why I am writing this review) spent most of the time watching YouTube videos with the other staff and talking about how he went to jail for assault. Now if he did a good job cutting my hair, I would ignore this unprofessionalism. Instead I spent $35 plus tip for a horrible haircut that looks like I did it myself. The fade was not blended at all and there are distinct lines where you can see when he decided to stop cutting my hair and go watch YouTube videos. The staff are completely unprofessional, composed of primarily amateurs who I assume are the owner's friends, and worst of all, disrespectful to your time and money. If you want to spend this much money on a haircut I would recommend going somewhere with actual standards of business and conduct. I have a feeling I will not be getting a refund, I'm honestly not sure if this place is even worth going to in order to let them fix this $35 haircut. read more

I've had many barbers and usually between the start of the haircut-30 seconds I can tell if it's going to be a quality cut or not based off how my hair gets cut. First let me start by saying I have very curly hair and I don't like my hair being too short. I start off with a very nice lady and was great to talk to but I had a picture description of what I wanted, and very specially said I don't want the sides to be too short and I like to generally keep the side longer so it blends in with the top better. Immediately I get the highest fade I've gotten and already knew that there was no coming back from that. The fade looks fine but it is NOTHING like what I asked for. I just paid $25 for an armature cut and shave. I came in with a hack job i had done to myself but was definitely fixable. i regret coming here. The shave was half done a crooked. I tried to ask the other barbers to help out they laughed and said it looked better than what I came in with. I just piad left and went to find another shop to fix it. read more

I have tried several but once I took the opportunity to go to this barbershop I realized I had found what I was looking for. This shop is very conveniently located in downtown Kyle. I was able to make a appointment for a specific time, and not just sign in and get on a list and then have to wait. I was greeeted by a very nice, friendly young lady, Heather who made me feel right at home. I had made my appointment with Chris and I can't say enough good things about the haircut I got. I highly recommend Gentlemen's Grooming 101 to anyone looking for a welcoming, friendly, traditional barbershop experience! Everytime I show up there (about an hour after they open) they refuse me as a customer. I always hear the same excuse: "No one is here yet sir, sorry, can you wait for another hour?". I hear this excuse even when the place is empty and there are obviously people there to offer their services. They only service through schedule only, and don't have the structure for walk-ins. They may give a good cut for all I know, and I'd love to try again, but next time I'll be sure to call in ahead of time for sure. Until then...1 star for poor service structure. read more
