If you're looking for a great cut and old school barbershop feel, this is the place. I first started going here when Eric took over the shop years ago. The prices were half of what they are now and walk ins were welcome which are convenient. Eric always gave the best cuts and good conversation. When he went to appointments only it was difficult to book anything that was less than a month out. When I moved a little further away I tried out many other barbers trying to get a great haircut. Sadly I only found one other gentleman I would consider and when COVID hit he decided to retire. With my wedding coming up I knew I had to book ahead and get a haircut with Eric. Overpriced, underwhelming. Had a bad experience with "Mr. Personality" by the window. Other guy seemed cool, my guess is he is the owner/proprietor. I got in the chair, zero introduction or communication from the barber. Very slow about his business, I'm all for taking time but this was unnecessarily slow. He had me sitting straight up in the chair and made me hold my head back for at least 5 mintues while shaving me, rather than reclining my chair. My neck started cramping and I moved my head down quickly, barber then asked me to keep my head back. I quipped that its hard bc my head is big, he shot back "its hard to shave straight if ur moving ur head." I moved my head for maybe 3 seconds, and why not recline the chair? I'm simmering due to the rude behavior as he proceeds to take another 45 minutes to do what my normal barber does in 15. I finally ask if he can wrap up soon, he says something about not rushing him while he has a blade to my head. It didnt come off in a joking manner. Haircut finally ended shortly thereafter, i got out of the chair, paid the overpriced sum and literally booked out of the shop. Wont be back.... read more

I have been three times I was attracted to the hot towel shave. The dude who got me never introduced himself or talked at all. I asked for a 1/2 inch trim and the dude turns me away from the mirror and proceeds to take my hair down to 1/8" from my scalp! No clarification just a scalping. I had booked the appointment weeks in advance in an effort to stay groomed but when the time came I really did not need either a shave or a haircut. I was trying to make this a time to relax and enjoy the hot towels etc. but I didn't need it. They send you this text reminder that doesn't have their phone and you can't reply. I got busy with the first text and then I didn't want to cancel the day before, I just didn't want the shave. When I told the barber I did not want the shave he suddenly has the ability to speak, he could have booked 2 more haircuts and I need to respect his time! How about respecting my head! I looked in the mirror and normally I don't give a sh7T what my hair looks like so he asks and I glance whatever I'm kinda pissed but don't want to overreact I pay him the twenty for the cut and another twenty for his trouble. I feel he might of had his undies in a twist about his time and screwed my head on purpose because I said take a half off. Even if I said leave me a half this is much less. Where is his professionalism to make the customer feel welcome and listened to. The guy furthest from the window seems nice has a personality but the dude near the window treated me this way. This is a great barbershop with an old-school vibe. Getting an appointment can be rough (it's a one-man show), but it is truly worth it. Eric is the best barber in the city or suburbs. He knows exactly what you mean when you explain what you want, and won't half-ass your hair like chain salons. He knows what you want and uses his discretion well to make you look and feel your best. Does slickbacks, undercuts, and pomopadours especially well. Shop has a masculine, 50's rocker appeal which is my next favorite part about this place. Pricing is very reasonable. I certainly won't go anywhere else. read more

I do applaud the fact that two young dudes took this place over but two things that are no good for any business (especially salon/barber business): no personality, and being rude to client/not communicating well about what the client wants. Not really how "gentlemen" should treat others. I made an appointment, was 3 minutes late because I had to take an emergency phone call (I was standing in waiting room the whole time). Barber near the window seems disgruntled and only reminded me that he has a tight schedule, who doesn't my friend? I apologized for my tardiness but I guess that obviously wasn't good enough. He gave me the basic army cut which I could have gotten at 20 other shops in the area with less attitude (not what I asked for by the way). Dude has no personality whatsoever, and the other guy furthest from the window tried minimally to make small talk and make the experience less awkward, and also thanked me for coming in. I miss the old barbers that knew you by first name and didn't squeeze schedules to maximize profits. My advice to the owners, lower price to reflect your service. Advice to fellow men reading this would be go elsewhere as you won't get a true barber shop experience here. read more

GentleMans Row is a great local establishment. I have been getting my haircuts here since 2010. The barbers at GentleMans Row offer a great experience with a welcoming vibe. They have a clean, professional shop w modern amenities and plenty of services. Family friendly but definitely a barbershop. I feel you get what you pay for and the price reflect a top notch experience. I love that they are appointment only and that you can book online, definitely saves me time. I have to confess, I love the barber experience and therefore I was a barber jumper . When I lived in Wisconsin i would still drive into Chicago to get my haircut. I've been to at least 10 different barbers and even went to Rotterdam to experience the Schorem Scumbags. However since moving to Des Plaines I still find myself going to Gentleman's Row. My barber is Matt, he gets the job done to perfection. My wife has been a colorist/ stylist for 19 years and every single time I come home from seeing matt I get compliments. Just an fyi, I work a blue collar job and even the guys a work like the fresh haircuts I get. I wear my hair in a no nonsense shaved sides with a hard part. The shop is clean,the appointments are prompt and sometimes they're ready early, the place smells good,and best of all ,its about 2 miles from my house. I found this shop yesterday and was amazingly pleased! A small, home-town feel in the busy suburbs. The barber, specializes in old school hair cuts and hot towel, straight blade shaves. He even uses a new blade for every customer! Affordable prices ($14 for a cut and same for a shave) and he takes his time. A wonderful experience. I have found my new barber! Best shave I've had, ever. I used to be a regular at Flyods Barbershop, but after this.. I'm never going to Floyd's again. Only got a facial shave today and it went really smooth, no scratches of irritation. Eric got talent and knows what he's doing. I first came here a few years ago when it was Rudy's. Then those bastards out West made him change the name. Gentleman's Row is a perfect name for the shop. Eric cuts hair like the barber I had growing up (RIP Lorenzo). Nice thing about Eric is he is younger and I know he will be around for a long time. I always walk out satisfied. This isn't a quick buzz cut and out, Eric makes your experience relaxing. Where has this place been and how come I didn't find them sooner. I can honestly say finding a quality barber who can cut my hair the way I like has been challenging for me. I have been through 4 barbers or so called barbers in the last year and I finally found a new home. This shop rocks! The atmosphere is awesome the environment on point and the cut is always perfect. The reason I am writing this negative review is because I want to help other men avoid my experience. The issue began with me calling Matt to let him know about the early birth of my twin boys, which required that I cancel my previously scheduled appointment. He seemed to be okay with the cancellation but when I attempted to reschedule their establishment would not even answer my calls or return my voice mail messages. There is nothing gentleman like about not answering your business calls. In hindsight I would say that the cuts are good but the customer service, at least for an African American male, were less than desirable. It did not matter that I tipped $15 dollars for the three/four hair cuts I received from Matt. Matt had a nagging undertone of arrogance and rudeness when it came the service that he provided me. read more

Rudy's Barber Shop is a great place with old school barber shop charm. The proprietor is a young guy with great skils, even doing retro styles and hot shaves. I spied this place on the way one day and had a feeling about it. Its been my goto place for about 6 months and I am so glad to have found it. I wanted to get my hair cut in a trim pomp with a fade in the back, and it was so refreshing to find out that he knew what I was talking about. His client base is growing, so call ahead if you'd like to get a haircut and shave to see how busy he is. Most times the wait is pretty reasonable, but can get busy at times with a few gentleman waiting. I recently got a hot towel shave and it was great, very reasonably priced too.
