This is a poorly managed company. It seems they are trying to find excuses not to pay life insurance claim. They keep stonewalling asking for more documentation and taking their sweet time sending a check. We even paid for expedited payment which was supposed to be to us in 6 days. Over a month later they are acting like this is our fault. My mother Leeanne Pettey died in beginning of March. Her body was in storage at funeral home for weeks because it took that long for them to confirm funds for funeral home. They are the worst. read more

It appears Genworth could not care less about poor reviews. I'll spare everyone the details. Suffice to say I called about updating some info and by the end of the call I had cancelled my policy. Well, not exactly cancelled. The rep told me she would stop the monthly drafts, and I would get a bill, and then if I ignored the bill the policy would be cancelled. THIS is exactly the kind of BS that led to my wanting to cancel! Everything is a runaround. I wasn't even filing a claim, just trying to update info. I can only imagine the headaches they would give my family if they tried to get paid upon my death. read more

I'll start by saying something good. The company was quite prompt and helpful when I filed a claim for payment of in-home help. Now let's get to the blatant disregard of the riders for shared benefit and enhanced survivorship benefits. It seems the company either refused or was unable to read and understand the riders for which we had paid for more than a decade. I sent copies of the riders subsequent to my husband's death during the summer and the silly company nearly immediately acknowledged the riders by rolling the shared benefits over to my policy and both refunding the annual premium that was paid two weeks prior to my spouse's death and updating the monthly maximum payout for the LTC policy. Then they decided in September, 2023, about a month after the death of my husband that they need to 'investigate' whether I am entitled to the benefits under the policy riders for which we'd both been paying. They said it would take 60 days to complete their investigation. The first week of December I notified the Kansas Insurance Commission, after having told another of the dunderheads that I was rather sick of the old, "It'll take us 60 days...." excuse and that unless they were using a calendar other than the one everyone else in the U.S. uses, their time had expired and that I was notifying the Kansas Insurance Commissioner. They were probably silly enough to either not know the importance of that office or to believe I was bluffing--too bad for them in either case because now the Commission has yet another consumer with a legitimate complaint. I received a rather curt response from Katherine Lyles (I've seen that name from another reviewer in Yelp) January 5, 2024 and was told "In these cases it takes longer to complete the review." Seriously? You know I keep the correspondence you've sent, record the date and time of every telephone call, and make copies of the correspondence sent to you whether by snail mail or email, don't you? And had the previous yahoos told me the investigation time was 120 days rather than to keep repeating '60 days', I perhaps would have extended more grace to you. Either stop lying to your insureds who are, by the way, paying the expenses of the company including your salaries, or introduce a more robust employee training program so the employees know what they're talking about. Despite being assured by the person mentioned by name in the preceding paragraph that the company has made the corrections to my policy, a quick check immediately after the receipt of Ms. Lyles' communication and several times subsequent thereto, indicates they're either mis-stating (being charitable here) or don't know what they're talking about [I'd rather be a liar than a dodo]. My battle continues. There's something about the death of a spouse that will bring out the fight in a person, especially when that person isn't receiving something for which he/she has paid and the person in the opposite corner--Genworth, to be specific--is contractually obligated to provide that item. read more

Stay away from this insurance company. They will stonewall and make excuses not to pay claim. Still waiting on payout. 120 days out. Well past the required 90 day elimination period. Save you money or research a insurance company that honors their agreement to policy holders. Now into 7 months since claim was filed. Two assessments, two premiums paid and not one penny paid on claim. I have now hired an attorney. Criminal this company! read more

The customer service is poor. Ten year level premium term policy is coming to an end and I am not continuing it, but I cannot get Genworth to understand that I am not surrendering or terminating a policy, but just letting it lapse as it has run its course and I no longer needed. They want me to complete additional paperwork, including notarization, which is not necessary for a term policy that has no value. I have wasted a lot of time in emails, phone calls, and letters. Find a better company for your life insurance needs. read more

In 2001, I bought Long-Term Care insurance from Genworth Life although at the time it was a GE company which now has been spun off. Since the time of my purchase, Genworth has raised my annual premiums from $1404 to $2022 (44%) and recently sent me an options page stating that they were raising my premium 55% to $3134. They offered to reduce this increase to 52% if I agree to certain changes which reduce my coverage and freeze my premiums for 7 years. Choosing to keep my current coverage would expose me to premium increases going forward that Genworth projects to be "at least 140% over the next 5-7 years". This is a shell game, in which only Genworth wins. They pay their CEO $9.5 million per year and their top five executives an average of $5 million per year and I'm sure they will all receive fat bonuses or raises after these new rates go into effect. I'm in so deep I can't see a way out but I will be looking for one going forward. read more
