While I have been shopping here for many, many years. Whether with the previous owners Jim and Becky Calef or the current owners. I have always found the establishment to be very clean and a courteous staff. They sell a wide range of products from the fresh butcher shop, bakery items, Craft and national beers, wine, ciders, produce, deli items, their own line of pickled items, sauces and of course grocery items. Great place to get good butcher meats and bakery items. Most of the items are local. They have fresh foods made daily including soups, sandwiches, etc. Nice to be able to get some lunch or dinner while shopping for foods to make at home. Recently refurbished. read more

Many small changes since it changed hands. It is still good but it used to be world class. Too many new young employees who are clueless. Hasn't stopped me from going there but I miss the old owners. read more

Have traded with GCFF for years. Always enjoyed their hams, cheese and their sandwiches are terrific. I spoke out for them when the competition went in next door. Now I regret it. They are selfishly touting their political position to the risk of the rest of the community. They are a retail and food service business but, in defiance of state government regulation, they refuse to wear masks to protect us from COVID 19. I asked them why and with all hostility they responded that they 'rely on science'. After 30 years of doing business with them, I will not go back and I cannot encourage anyone else to. If Barrington suffers a break out of COVID 19, we know who to blame. I have reported their noncompliance to the state and the town. read more

They need to update WHO guidelines for covid. I stood in line and had to listen to I believe the owners son tout about guidelines and how we didn't wear a mask for TB or flu. I have not been back since and that was well over a month. I do enjoy the selection, the butchery and the beer assortment. You are using out of date guidelines and are not qualified to judge the person wearing a mask at the deli. read more

Nice store but the refusal to wear masks during a pandemic crosses this shop off my list forever. They should have more consideration for those in the community who are vulnerable. read more

Brendan makes an awesome breakfast sandwich. Perfect bacon and the Buffalo cheddar cheese is great.

Great fresh meat department - pricey but good. Other convenience store items are priced out of sight. Deli is questionable. Got some boiled ham here and it was bad within three days at home. Italian subs are very good. read more

Pre-ordered our fresh turkey, as I have for several years. To our dismay, it was the worst turkey we've ever gotten from GCFF. It was frozen enough that it sat in the fridge for over 24 hours and still had to be soaked in cold water in order to thaw out. The flap of skin at the neck end was split so there was no stuffing that with stuffing. In the end, it was tough and tasted like an old, frozen bird. Certainly not worth the $80 we paid for a 19 pound fresh turkey. We won't make that mistake again. read more

Who doesn't love Calef's? They did a good job on the remodel and the meats and cheeses are still the same, A+ quality!

We were new to the area and driving by and stopped in. This is a cute little place that has a bunch of locally made breads, pickled foods and local meat. There is an array of random grocery that is over-priced and some produce, but it is has a local feel and the people are really friendly. We ordered our Thanksgiving turkey fresh from here this year and it was delicious. It is a place that feels like everyone knows everyone. Absolutely horrible customer service. Stood in line with 8 other people while 4 people were behind the meat counter (one cashier up front) and one man was stocking shelves. Paid for my two items, went back to complain about the lengthy wait (when others were standing around). I changed my mind, walked out only to have the manager follow me out believing that I was shoplifting. He tried to direct me to a vacant office, alone, in the back of the store. I refused and I went through the front door and asked the cashier for my receipt. She kindly and nicely gave it to me. I showed the manager (the 23 year old son of the owners) and all he could say was "good, you should have followed my instructions" What a jerk. There are too many local places to support but I won't be back there again. All he had to do was say, "I apologize for any inconvenience." he said nothing other than "good...". We had a direct discussion about customer service. He said that he was doing "prep work" and was "too busy" to deal with "people like me" (as I stood there with my Air Force veteran hat on) We both agreed that there would never be a reason for me to spend my hard earned money there again. Janetos, Market Basket and Arthur's Market are equi-distant and have excellent customer service and great meats. read more

Yesterday was Easter and I had picked up yet another smoked ham made right here. It was FANTASTIC as always. On other occasions, I've bought their Delmonico's...again excellent quality. Calef's is a small gem of a mom& pop type business. I always love to support local....give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

I've stopped here several times, but yesterday was the first day we grabbed some sandwiches. First, but far from last. I had one of the best sandwiches I've had in ages. They cure their own ham, which is always good. The bread was fresh and tasty, the ham was thick cut, very fresh, the cheese was true sharp cheddar, the mustard great and their homemade pickles exceptional. The lettuce was romaine and very fresh (local?), the other veg equally fresh and crisp. We were very hungry, but the sandwich was huge and very filling. All of this for around $6! A wonderful bargain. Service is friendly and efficient, the place is very clean and easy to find. I wouldn't change a thing except to move them closer to where we generally work. read more

This is where we get all of our meat! I will get my groceries at Market Basket and then make a special stop just to get what we need at the Butcher Shop. They also have a nice selection of baked goods, the BEST ciabatta rolls and our favorite pickles. They only have one cash register, but it is worth the wait! read more
